I can't really picture Joel picking unique, unrelated password for every service he uses. Probably someone got his password from somewhere else and just used it on his mail and from there onto everything.

you can have a shitty ass password and use two step auth, then they can't get in unless they have your phone

It seems like they got more than one account though, since they got to mods as well. I'm thinking perhaps there was a compromise to the forums, and they either added a key logger or were otherwise able to get their password from the forums. Perhaps someone uploaded a "fan" file and it was infected. Only way to know if the site itself was affected would be to have someone who visited it since this started check and see if they have new infections. If the site or forums was comprised somehow, it would explain dire taking it down.
People like this confuse me, they use whatever talents/skills they have to just end up being just a massive prick

It's noon in Sweden and Joel hasn't said anything on Twitter or Tumblr. Either he's too busy trying to get the YouTube back, he hasn't noticed, or Towel got those too.
Hopefully Joel did not use the same password on every site. If he did tho, I hope you learned something out of it.

Because """"hacking""" into an email account using passwords (most likely) stolen by someone else doesn't take talent or skill, it just takes being a asshole, an shitty script kiddie and attention whore
Even if he did himself crack the weak hashes from a stolen database or something it would still take zero talent to do that.
I'm saying this because I doubt this guy found a severe exploit on twitch/google/youtube's code and used it to upload two shitty videos to Joel's channel, that'd be talented of them

I highly doubt it's an exploit, as he doesn't have Joel's second account.
I'm guessing Joel has a pass like ABC123 and Twitch doesn't protect against pass "cracking" (read: bruteforcing) attempts.

I can't really find more info because the other streamers are waiting for it to blow over and r/vinesauce is acting as if Towel is some Voldemort-like figure that shouldn't be even mentioned.

Well, admittedly I don't use them for every one of my accounts, but I use them for the very important ones and other services that have had breaches before.
Every password is different, and is completely random.
Something tells me Joel and KY are going to take some massive breathers after this whole mess though. I wouldn't blame them. I'd want to take a break for a bit too if I came close to losing a lot of my work.
I sincerely hope Vinny and any of the other streamers aren't affected as well. Would absolutely hate to find out that someone managed to hack into the main Vinesauce Youtube account and delete everything.
I do have to wonder if this is linked to the Twitch whisper bot spamming at all.
