sucks to see the FoV is still similar to looking at everything through telescopes attached to your face
sucks to see the FoV is still similar to looking at everything through telescopes attached to your face
Console games are designed with that FOV in mind (55-60) because 99% of people who play console games play on a TV that going to be across the living room, where such an FoV looks completely natural
55-60 looks bad up close because the screen takes up about 90-110degs of our total vision area (depending on how big your screen is and how far you are from it), so the game needs to match that FoV to look natural. but on a TV console it'll look fine
I love the the art direction, but ehhh... Not sure...
Also, are those assassinations forced?

I'm still teetering between whether or not to get this.
Halo 3 gave closure and everything sort of went full circle (lol pun).
But now it feels like the same old formula all over again.
Don't think so, especially not in multiplayer.

It's a choice. You either tap the melee button and you just hit them in the back once and they die, or you hold the button and it does one of the assassination animations (there should be multiple ones).
The new HUD is way too big and distracting. It's way more obnoxious than it is immersive.
Have they explained why we're fighting against Elites again? I thought they were friendly now, plus why are the covenant even still together when all their leadership got smashed to bits?
Covenant Dissolved in halo 3.
There's still a few splinter groups leftover from that. You can tell because compared to covenant their weaponry/armor/tech/etc. is more rugged than previous iterations
I hate this. It feels like Halo is becoming the new Call of duty.

Nothing in that footage was remotely looks, feels, or plays CoD, besides the fact they are both FPS's.

All the complaints about the HUD make no sense. It's the same size as all the other Halo games, the only difference now is that they added the peripheral vision of the actual helmet itself instead of just the HUD.

I think a lot of us have been meaning to include the added peripheral vision as part of the HUD. Either way, more of the player's view is obstructed.

Personally I love the very minor changes to the HUD, it adds a sense of immersion, like you're in the helmet.

Oh yeah those 3 cms of space used at the corners of my screen are so obstructing my view!

I like it too, but that's probably because I loved the HUD in Metroid Prime.

I don't mind the hud itself, although the flashes from getting hit might be annoying like they were in Reach. My problem is that the damn center of the hud seems to get lower and lower from the actual center of the screen with each passing game. It's just disorienting that it feels like you have to aim higher than normal and cut off peripheral view of the ground to shoot anything. (Although this is also likely to allow you to see above you, as someone once said, "Gamers never look up on their own.")
EDIT: Okay, so 'peripheral view of the ground' isn't accurate, but it gives me odd pains in my eyes from adjusting.
Oh yeah those 3 cms of space used at the corners of my screen are so obstructing my view!
it's not those, but the the beveled/warped glass effect that I find as the most distracting obstruction.

Yes, because saying "It feels like Halo is becoming the new Call of duty." is an opinion. Care to provide valid reasons on why this game is the new CoD. Instead of calling me just calling me a fanboy?
Hes got a point, it isn't an opinion if facts prove it wrong.

naw i'm just gonna sit on the sidelines and laugh, thank you very much
Moving on, after watching the footage a second time, I really like how the HUD shakes when you're hit.

actually he was content manager, dunno where you got those other things
and now he's franchise development director, which *surprise* makes him the most important person of halo's development
Forgive me for saying this, but there's nothing I see in the gameplay that would make me actually want to get it. I'm sure that people who already play and love Halo are looking forward to and will like this, but as someone who has never seriously played it, I just look at the gameplay and see more of what was already done. They have the rifle that shoots fast and isn't as accurate, the rifle that shoots slower and is more accurate, the pistol, and the shotgun. Not to mention that both of those vehicle sections felt really pointless, especially the first one. From what I saw, everything could have been done without them. The only thing I saw that looked new was the shield thing, and even its demonstration was weak. In the gameplay it was just used as 'hey I know I can stay around this corner a bit longer because I can use my shield and retreat", but a much cooler use would be "this NEW, INTERESTING ENEMY has a really big attack that will cripple me if it hits, so I can just walk out into the open and use the shield to tank it". All that aside, yes there are better graphics, better engine and physics(I guess?), and I see most people who already play Halo looking forward to this. Just as someone who hasn't played them before, this gives me no reason to start.
My two cents.
Shit that turned out to be a big wall of text

Ah sorry, I get the two mixed up I was probably thinking of someone else but thank you for correcting me.
I personally think the level looks quite cool, though it still looks a bit bland. The terrain of the previous Halo games used to change quite frequently which made it less boring. I will still buy this game, but I hope this doesn't become a generic and dull linear shooting game. It better have a good storyline as well.
Some guns look like they have same animations from reach.
Must be my imagination, but still looks very good.
