As someone who goes to several cons a year, you got off easy.
Every con I go to there is a homestucker ruining the pool with their body paint, destroying rooms, assaulting other homestuckers (usually sexually), causing scenes or just being a public nuisance.
I don't read homestuck but I'm told that kind of behavior is prevalent in the characters (im sorry if i'm incorrect here) so that combined with the average age of homestuck cosplayers (middleschool to early highschool) you get some fuckheads who don't realize they're being fuckheads.
One of my female friends went to a con party once and ended up being nearly molested by a drunk female homestucker who later found out was 15.
I didn't mean to suggest that my experience was severe (and OFC it's nowhere near what the girl in the video experienced), just relating my experience with the topic.
Momocon was a lot of fun but I have to admit it was run really poorly. Projectors kept crapping out at panels, there were technical issues everywhere, and there was evidently an asshole in a bear costume just walking on stage at panels several times and security wasn't doing anything about him.
I'm inclined to believe this girls story but at the same time there's always a bullshit controversy at EVERY convention and this girl is a VLogger that gets her views by getting her tits out. So you know, kinda hard to take her seriously when its incredibly likely that this is a fake story made to get a quick fame pop.
I'm not normally the one to be all "hurr durr victim blaming" but like, stories like this happen at EVERY con. The only reason this one is even moderately believable is because Momocon's staff and security were pretty stupid. Not as bad as some other cons (like fuckin' Dragoncon) but yeah it was pretty bad.
I guess what I'm saying is that its pretty likely that this happened, but you should always take stories like this with a grain of salt because every single convention on the planet has a story like this pop up where it doesn't go anywhere and the person sharing the story coyly says things like "like comment subscribe for more details."

You are right to question the integrity of someone's claim instead of taking it at face value, but you should research/investigate along with it.
I'll be there, look for the guy dressed as Kamina(I might be a wee buzzed on some booze though)
I'll keep a weary eye out. Apparently some of the Momocon guests were The Nostalgia Critic, Jon Bailey of Honest Trailers and apparently X-Com, and Keith David! Despite the apparent controversy, but holy SHIT I so want to meet these guys! :D
Probably a inability to realize what they're doing is wrong.
probably raised poorly or a social disorder.
that or they're just an asshole.
Like I've met plenty of introverts and shut-ins (particularly on facepunch) and they aren't all sex crazed weirdo's, it takes a special type of irregular person to do thing's like this.
This is just my conjecture, but from what I've noticed about the general active and more vocal population of
nternet boards(eg, 4chan in particular) is that cosplay girls are treated as objects rather than humans, and the
prominence of sexist beliefs only makes it worse.
It's really not uncommon for scantily dressed cosplayers(or even normally dressed girls, for fuck's
sake) to get verbally and physically harassed by assholes at cons. It happens to males too, but the
ratio is heavily skewed towards female harassment.
The worst part is that they think it's totally fine to do so.
What do shitlords have to sexually harass and borderline molest these girls. Like what the fuck is your train of thought? It just seems like common sense that you don't fucking grope at someone.
Stop creeping out the hot cosplay girls you're ruining it for everyone else. Appreciate, don't touch.
"I have never seen or touched a girl in real life, so I will harrass this one because she is dressed like my waifu and might like it" ?
If someone touched or grabbed me out of nowhere in a con, I'd probably elbow them on reflex.
Wouldn't be the first time either.
No one expects to get punched in the throat.
There was a video of some person cosplaying as Foxy from FNAF and (I think it was 2?) people were physically and verbally harassing him/her and it looked like she/he was just completely frozen in fear
IIRC one of them said that they wanted to stick their penis inside the cosplayer, which is just downright fucking creepy

imagine being legitimately innocent and not knowing the creepy "hahaha knot jokes" side of the fnaf base, only to find out first hand because you're cosplaying the damn fox
god damn
Perhaps unrelated, but whenever I go to conventions I just go in, buy what I want and get out (yes I go for the merch and art, sue me.) I felt like that the first time I went to a convention but by the third one I bought maybe one thing from the dealers' room (The only other things I bought were some games and a N64 memory card from a comic shop in the building the con is held at) and the rest of it was socializing, going to panels and a concert.
I've always wanted to go to a convention wearing a mega milk shirt.
I'm grateful that I'm a hideous beast and will never attend cons to be randomly groped
I mean I'd kick their ass, but still, never having to worry about it is nice
worrying about other things is troublesome though
I feel bad whenever I go to cons because I always hit girls asses with my messager bag. I immediately say sorry but I still worry. I also ed up stopping more females to take pictures since they always wear really nice cosplay. Not really sexual ones at all either.

They shouldn't mind a picture
I think they just mind if you get creepy and take pictures of just their ass, and tits, like, zoomed in on them.
I went all 4 days, not really a big anime fan but a lot of my friends are so I went to hang out with them. Met Super Best Friends Play which was cool, but yeah, it was cringey at times. People there seem to lose the "normal person" filter and just act weird and crazy even when out of character.
I went to the biggest weeb con in the world, Comiket, and found the people there to weird as hell. The NEET shut ins come out of the woodwork to go to this event in tokyo. This one girl (maybe 20 at most? She's Japanese obviously and it was incredibly hard to tell her age, she legit looked 15) had an excellent cosplay of a character named Hachikuji, an 11 year old girl in the show, obviously not sexual in any way. My friend who speaks fluent Japanese was shocked at some of the shit the guys crowding around her were saying, such as "are you wearing your panties today?" The worst part is she didn't even seem fazed by it. Although the standard of cosplay was really fucking high. I felt sorry for a few of the guys as the fujoshits were getting a bit handsy with them too. Gender equality in harassment i guess.

this is actually worth mentioning, when you're taking a picture head-to-toe of a cosplayer because, you know, it's a whole cosplay, a rare few cosplayers may be unaware of how camera lenses work (to center it around their body, it's pointed at their stomach more or less), and assume you're taking a zoomed in shot of their chest/body like a creeper when really you're just taking a normal picture

google images was not kind in my search for clip art
long story short I've seen people yelled at for illegitimate reasons and I'd hate to think that kind of misunderstanding could lead to stories in which someone could have thought literally everyone was a creeper
I've been to a ton of cons and I've generally always had a good time. Cons are by and large positive and great experiences, especially the larger and more well-regulated ones like Anime Expo, Anime Central, Youmacon, etc. Yeah, they attract a lot of creeps and shut-ins, but they also attract a lot of cool people. I've made a lot of friends coming from all walks of life through cosplay and nerd chatter. It's one of the only types of places where I can really open up socially, talk about my hobbies, and relax. Don't let stories like these paint a picture of a social cesspit full of nothing but the worst kinds of people. Yeah, it happens, but a lot of good stuff happens, too.

I don't mean to criticize but like, why would you go just for the merch? I've literally never found a good deal on merch at a con that isn't easily bested online. It's like shopping at a physical manifestation of eBay; the prices are always reseller-tier absurd for every type of merchandise. Unless you're after just the handmade stuff.
Check this guide out, it'll save you those trips into conventions and also a lot of money. (Excuse the 4chan language; it's a guide written for 4chan but it's extremely informative.)
