Why are they putting the thermal paste on the heatsink. Why not just dab a small amount on the processing unit then put the sink on?

That heatsink has ridges in between the cooling pipes so it would be wise to fill those in with paste. I'm a proponent of the spreading method. On a CPU with an IHS it's good to get as much surface area for proper cooling. I've found that the pea method only covers about 70% of the IHS after pressure is applied from the heatsink. On CPUs without the IHS it's perfectly fine to not spread the paste..
which makes me have PTSD flashbacks to building my computer because i didn't have a modular psu fucking wires everywhere, oh god it's terrifying

I try to make my thumbnails on my videos relatively truthful and it's tough
Did you even watch the video? They're using a modular PSU
saw cables every where assumed sorry
saw cables every where assumed sorry
Having a modular and not using it right is even worse imo
Gamespot's attempt was in the related. It's worse. It's fucking worse.
stock thermal compounds are usually shit, it's better to just spend the extra $10 on arctic silver/other thermal compounds. i remember doing an experiment for a science fair testing two heatsinks (stock and the hyper 212+) and two thermal compounds (stock and arctic silver) on an intel setup, and I found a pretty noticeable difference in cpu temps when switching thermal compounds their mobo and ram is overkill btw
You wanna talk shit stock thermal compounds? Let's talk shit thermal compounds. My HP Dv7 laptop has an i7 Quad at 3.5Ghz (overdrive to 3.9) as well as a Radeon HD6750M (yes mobile but I don't care) and when going at it's max, combined they were putting out 97C. It got to the point where I was getting screen tearing even though I had it propped up and fans running underneath at full speed. After I had popped it open, removed ALL the shit they had on there (which was fucking CHALK at that point) and put arctic silver for my two GPUs and my CPU, I brought the overall temp for the computer down 30C! It's ridiculous the shit they get away with on these prebuilt computers and laptops.
I think the worst part is that IGN hired that guy in the green shirt as a host/presenter. He has terrible posture, no presence and is one of the least engaging people I've seen on a professional media site. Not to mention how hamfisted he was with those components :ohdear:
To end the thermal paste debate:
always the metal method
Fucking really?
Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed this glaring error. How do you even /do/ that?
Whats the error?
The games spelled crysis, they spelled it crisis.
And there's no Step number
Gamespot's attempt was in the related. It's worse. It's fucking worse.
oi lads what shall we put in this killer gaming machine server processors mate!
The games spelled crysis, they spelled it crisis.
What a... Crisis
Educational in some ways, but not for consumers at all. Jesus Christ they applied the thermal paste before even figuring out how to assemble it. Why even do that.
That way of applying thermal paste could seriously damage the computer, I'm not joking. Put it on the CPU to make sure you're not going off the edges. If that paste can act as a conduit then i'm more than certain the PC will fry eventually.
To end the thermal paste debate:
The plastic glove method? Jesus christ what are you doing
I like how the bald guy was saying that Crysis 1 is still the best in the series and the host just ignored what he said :V
The plastic glove method? Jesus christ what are you doing
I always just dab a small drip of arctic silver on my CPU, then spread it out into a thin even coating with my finger while wearing vinyl gloves. Works perfectly for me. But yeah, that hand-in-plastic-bag method in the video is just absolutely retarded. Who would actually do that?
Bad computer for a bad game, bad video by bad people.
Aren't the IGN guys the ones who were complaining you needed a super PC for Crysis in their review for it?
Aren't the IGN guys the ones who were complaining you needed a super PC for Crysis in their review for it?
That was before Crytek started paying them.
You guys are all idiots
I cringed so hard when he started plugging in the GPU power cables without screwing the thing down and it bent a little.
Oh god, he actually pulled the optical disk drive lock off...
Fucking really?
And this children is why anyone who takes the game media serious is a fucking idiot.
