The artstyle is a little weird but that animation and humor are spot-on and it pains me that they really thought that a movie about emojis would work better than Popeye. What, do they seriously think millennials are going to look at this and go "yeah man I wanna watch this instead of literally anything else?"
At least they picked a release month with literally nothing else of note coming out.
Sony is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one. I hope this doesn't end up becoming the new minions (which speaking of minions, there's a third despicable me film being made in case you didn't know). Also it doesn't look like Sony's ideas are going to get any better what with the live action Barbie film their making with Amy Schumer as the lead (and I wouldn't be surprised if Amy Pascal or Paul Fieg was directing it).
Despicable Me was good and the second one was decent, but the Minions movie relied entirely on randumb and cute with no dialogue, and unless you're a 40+ year old mom on Facebook, its humor wasn't exactly going to appeal to you.
It's not 2007 anymore, random bullshit was funny then, but humor requires a little bit more nowadays.
Personally, I just don't have a problem with advertisements that blend in, but I also don't see it as dishonest because it doesn't fool anyone either. what makes you think it doesn't fool anyone? that's really quite optimistic, if not outright naive
So this is the "first" movie? Oh no.
Haha its funny because the poop emoji is refined and posh!

just wait until they realise the emoji movie made less than a mil at the box office and they'll try pushing this out to cover the blast damage

I think the difference being this movie seems like it was written around the product placements. It's one thing to have a person drinking a coke for a scene and never really mentioning it, and it's another to have 10-20 minutes of the movie take place in Candy Crush.
📽 🎞 = 💩

Tartakovsky already left sony pictures animation in april 2016. They could do it without him I suppose but you need someone like him to bring it all together.
fyi he was the guy who made Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack.
weren't they also gonna make a movie based on medusa?
and can Sony proceed to go fuck themselves?

I'm not even surprised. I would quit too if they picked a fucking movie about emojis over something I and everyone else on the team put their hearts into.
Especially after he made them crapload of money already.

I am so legit pissed right now. Genndy did not goddamn deserve this. Oh my god you can hear it in his voice how much he is happy about this.
But no. We get a movie about a talking pile of actual shit instead of this. Thanks Sony. Fuck you so much.
THIS and Ghostbusters so there out for lunch
Figuratively cancer

But it isn't canned, Genndy just isn't working on it.
Part of me hopes that this makes their film division crash and burn and they sell it off to someone more competent after all their screw ups and failures.
Cool another movie where the gimmick is taking a bunch of characters and giving them one note personalities and saying its the point of the movie, rather than writing decent characters.
Reminds me of Inside out honestly.

Pretty sure that's canned too. Or at least Lauren Faust isn't working on it anymore.
Enjoy your Amy Schumer Barbie though.
But it isn't canned, Genndy just isn't working on it.
Truly cancelled or not the project still got shafted hard because Emoji Movie was a priority, just like the Medusa movie mentioned above, the point is the same
was the poop emoji voiced by the same guy who does the narrator in the stanley parable?
I really start to hate modern animated movies, I am trying not to but with garbage like this pumped out over and over again and original well animated ideas like Pop-Eye gets canned to make place for the "Emoji" movie... it will just get worse before it gets better I feel.
Just want to mention that dropbox really likes their "cameo" in this trailer.

I'm all for new ideas and IPs, as long as they're good, but I'd take a hundred reboot remake sequels over this crap.
And besides, emojis are hardly a new and exciting thing, The Emoji Movie is cashing in on an established concept. This movie is cancer no matter how you look at it.
knock it off guys the kids will like it and that's what matters, its a fucking kids movie

There are plenty of kids movies that are also good though.
