There's still a tremendous amount of nerve involved knowing live bullets are passing a few feet from you.
It's the closest you'll get until you're actually fired at by a real person.

This isn't even simulation, this is the best way to give an example of what it feels like to be fired at. Only difference would be that the guys in the field would shoot back and a million times faster.

gotta say whilst I understand it's a completely different experience being shot at, if that were me and I ended up getting wounded, it'd be really disheartening to think all my training went to waste on a stupid exercise.

A bullet is a bullet dude. It doesn't care if it's supposed to hit something or not.
