does type of pizza affect it? for instance if this man was using an Ultimate pizza could it have gone different? what if he had asked for them to go light sauce? so many variables here. We need to set up a research center ASAP

You also need to introduce variables in the experiment, like different pizza toppings. Would people react more or less positively, for example, if they are slapped directly in the face with no warning from a Canadian Bacon pizza? Stuffed crust?
Personally I would aggressively assault the person if they slapped me with a Canadian bacon pizza with stuffed crust, though only to steal the slice to consume, not to actually harm him.

Also I don't know about "mental gymnastics", but you have to understand that when he got slapped, he was just confused at first. Clearly. But after realizing that the attacker did it seemingly at random just for fun, and by the time the attacker sat back down like nothing happened, he got super pissed. And just like the caveman back in the day, he sure as fuck wouldn't let it go. The part of him that wanted to hit him got the better off him. Hell, the slapper didn't exactly leave much room for the part that makes us want to forgive and move on, did he now?

Not being in a fight does not make you a great character. Making the right decisions makes you a great character. You say you respond to pizza slaps with a pizza slap, but i bet you wouldnt move an eyebrow into an action like this. Do the pizza slap to him and watch as he punches your face into the ground. Oh and people have lived like this for ten thousand years, by being barbaric and it turned out good into some of them. Again i would like to hear these avoidings. I want you to avoid/defuse:
8 man cornering you in a park on the way to the school (one of them has a knife)
The kid who caught you looking at his girl and now he's talking shit to you
The girl who told her boyfriend that you asked to go out with her
The other kid who wants to play with your ball at the outside, and calling you a faggot in middle of the class, he also throated you recently at the bathroom
If you can find reasonable things to this, i will drop my attitude and you will defuse 1 more person with eye-to-eye mindset.
Oh and defuse this pizza slapped guy's situation without making him embarrassed in front of the people.
