Surrogates: The Game next gen launch title get hype.
I feel like the whole optics of VR goggles would be tricky. Even with the whole 3d effect, you cant simulate the focusing of actual vision quite yet. If they ever figure that out, then it would make for a really awesome VR experience. Without that it just gives you a headache
John Carmack did some work regarding that, beamed a laser into his eye and so on.
Can't wait to play Angry Birds.
As for one way for them to have walking without actually walking, maybe they can have something like a chair with a balance sensor attached to it like on the Wii Balance Board. The Player would sit on it and would lean in the direction they want to move, with the in-game character running faster depending on how much they lean. Perhaps the chair could be a rotating chair, to simulate turning. Man, the future is gonna be awesome.
GOTY I can see my own legs. However, I see motion controls gimmicky in the sense that when I play a video game I don't want to run around exhausting myself.

Is that the Sony HMD? They should use the Oculus Rift.
Well its possible by having a sort of harness over your hands and legs, and with little movements you can do all the movements you want ingame with little practice.
But that's stupid and can already be done. Full body awareness and 1:1 movement is what we want.
Ok listen up you guys, here's how I wish and how this technology really should be used. Remember lasertown? Yeah, now imagine lasertown with this, and a fully rendered Beeyooteful 3D Map, a different representation of the already existing physical lasertown layout. That way, there will be a proper physical representation of the map you're inside. Not only that, the virtual map can be replaced to be a tonne of other things! If I had the money i would build something like that. It's the arcade future.

That would be pretty cool.
I want this, a compact omni-directional treadmill and some kind of advanced version of Garry's Mod come out one day.
Aw, I thought he'd start running arround with his hands and feet like a monkey. :v:
Hi Ratchet! Remember me from the SMNC fourms? You get to see what I do for work! I work at YEI, I made this demo and I'm the guy dancing around. If you have any questions feel free to post them and I'll try to answer a few.

Fuuuuck, this really makes me want to get an Oculus Rift and a Kinect just so I can rig them up together in Gmod.
Planning to use the Oculus Rift when it comes out?
I pledged to the kickstarter so I'll be testing it out once I get my hands on it. I'm really excited!
Holy shit, this looks so awesome. Yeah, it'll need to be refined for years for it to be any fun (or playable, for that matter), but damn it is cool.
Leaning onto walls wouldn't work if you were to use an omni-directional treadmill or a hamster ball or whatever for this, sadly. But hey, this is still some fairly impressive stuff.

I don't see myself doing this in my home, but it could definitely be a thing that replaces lasertowns and such. Do you think this kind of technology would be adaptable for a large-scale simulation like that?

I can already see the next step: having your body in-game. There'll be naked ham beasts running around everywhere in new shooters.

A stripped down version of the layout with 11 sensors with a headset that is semitransparent seems very feasible for entertainment. With a few cameras to adjust the player models it should be rather reliable to make an augmented laser tag like thing that is much more interesting. Being able to see through walls, cloak as the opposing team and have multiple weapons would be sweet.

Would it be possible to add those sensors to props on the field, for example weapons/grenades?
This looks so amazing, sadly enough you need space to move around in (or organize shit in empty halls, which could also be a really good match against friends) to do this. I really want it though.
find a way to comfortably harness yourself in mid air which, on second thought, would make it difficult to crouch and make other manoeuvres
I still think my rotating chair with balance sensors would be more comfortable then actually moving around. Most guys would just prefer to play games sitting down.
I still think my rotating chair with balance sensors would be more comfortable then actually moving around. (I did not work on this and have no affiliation) http://kotaku.com/5919142/if-this-is-the-future-of-gaming-then-were-all-gonna-look-so-stupid I've seen videos of this system for 3-4 years yet is still not available for sale, its pretty much a consumer level upper body Exo suit like the Gypsy 7. The Gypsy suits look bad ass but I'm not sure I'd enjoy wearing a 9lbs exo suit for extended capture sessions. I still see them on the internet for about $8000. Tho they did make it on to Kotaku I still would like to do that eventually..... NEXT video. BTW has anyone else here seen Lawnmower Man?
