There's enough "us and them" between national borders without having them inside the borders too. The sad thing is that when we see this sort of thing, Muslim teachers beating the children to fear apostasy, the WBC protesting funerals and holding extreme anti-gay sentiments... ...the sad thing is these people are the IDEAL followers of their religion, according to their religious texts. All they say, all they justify, regardless of whether there are contradictions or not, they ARE in fact following what their religion tells them they're supposed to do. Is this to say they're all horrible, twisted and evil? No, it says nothing of the people; only their religion. Christianity, Judaism and Islam, are terrible terrible systems of belief. Yes, there are NUMEROUS examples of members of those religions that tell you they practice their religion wrong, that they're bad examples. This is because these are people who have primarily adopted a more secular, Western value system, and in fact value it more than they actually value their religion. Most of them have not actually read their texts, or else have and decided to ignore the aspects that don't adhere with the secular values they trust. Most of them are, in fact, closet secularists offered something supernatural as the truth, promised that the good and just will live on forever and that the evil will get their comeuppance. In the end, they've already made up their minds on what they value, and will pick and choose whatever complies with that in their religion, disregarding whatever does not. And of course, using it to justify their prejudice when it exists, and complying with it when they're confused into believing silly and pointless notions of morality. Secular values have already won in Western Civilization because of this. Apathy in learning both their own religion and in learning science and critical thinking has spawned the ever-dangerous stampeding Tea-Party, but if the Democrats can grow some gonads and stop their charge, religious apathy will eventually grow into a lack of religion, which while not a magic bullet, will certainly give them no excuse not to think rationally.
