He was a dick and he also did absolutely nothing wrong

EDIT: Just looked it up.
You can refuse to show ID in the US if you're just minding your own business. Just like police officers need probable cause to search something without a warrant, they need criminal suspicion to make you show ID. Not sure if running a red light as a cyclist like in the video is considered criminal suspicion, though.
Also if you're operating a motor vehicle, of course
He was a dick and he also did absolutely nothing wrong
i'm going to assume he went through a red light as the copper said
"The rules are there for a reason", sounds like that's coming from a child. And if he could have been hit, then that's his problem. He's aware it's a possibility when he rides that thing.
Please never ever drive.
If you fail to realise you not only have a responsibility to others on the road, then you're a fucking idiot, and nothing but.
Haha, that's different. Drunk driving is dangerous, and getting lucky doesn't make it like the situation of cycling through an intersection without hurting anyone.

You honestly think a car hitting a bicyclist at ~30 mph is going to damage only the bicyclist? Exactly how strong do you think a windshield is?
hitting a bicyclist at ~30 mph won't damage, but destroy him.
He's just doing his job :sigh:
i'm going to assume he went through a red light as the copper said

I was referring to his interactions with the cop, he was a dick but he didn't break any laws there
I think people also have to remember if a car driver smashes into a cyclist, it's not like the driver gets off Scott-free.
Imagine the trauma you experience on a head-on collision with a cyclist, smashing them into your windscreen and sending them hurtling to their death. It's not something I think I could live with myself.
It's like running into a kid that runs in front of you. The kid dies, and you're permanently scarred with the knowledge it was YOUR car that killed them, and you'll always wonder, "Could I have avoided them?"
Rules are there for a reason folks.
poor policeguy :v:
Poor cop :(
I don't mean to sound like a douchebag, nor like the kids that say "Fuck da police" for no blatant reason, however...Fuck them. Reason i say this is every single encounter I've had with a policeman has been like this, every experience I've had, they acted like assholes, be it if i did something bad or if i myself needed help from them, they have always been assholes...I hate them with a passion. I have yet to meet a decent cop that didn't have their mind set on ruining someones day...Very irritating to say the least.
When I was younger I had this petrol scooter, which (since it was not road legal and I drove it on my road outside) they took away and crushed. I was so angry
Turns out that same cop was the one who helped lock up a guy who robbed us...
If they weren't there, think how many times you'd get shot walking to the shops :v:
i find its hilarious that anyone in this thread is refrencing the law and abiding by it, as by the same law the police is not allowed to arrest him for not showing an ID and not allowed to steal the camera.

Here's a tip. For every decent person a cop runs into, they have to leap and bound over seas of absolute assholes. When your job is essentially dealing with jackasses throughout your entire shift and you're not required at all to be nice to them, you tend to assume that everyone (or a large majority) you encounter is just going to give you a headache. The only reason you think their mindset is to ruin someone's day is that their day is probably already ruined and they're projecting it.
the problem with police is that they dont have to answer to the law. every citizen should be a "policeman" with police rights, its ridiculous that police get extra rights and power over other humans.

Uh, no. Do you realize how big of a scandal it is when the media gets a hold on "police man is hypocrite, disobeys law" stories? Every police department does the best it can to make sure its officers don't go gung ho and get their internal affairs department and the media staring them down.

Also, in certain cases, citizens can arrest someone. I think it's when you see someone committing a felony.
I was referring to his interactions with the cop, he was a dick but he didn't break any laws there
he rode away from the cop trying to give him a ticket...?
He's just doing his job :sigh:
The cop tried to assault the guy with the camera, this is the same law that protects journalists from people trying to destroy their camera.
he rode away from the cop trying to give him a ticket...?
A cop cannot arrest you in most countries if they cannot answer the request of which law you broke. And he can't ticket you either for the same reason.

Can you tell me what law that is?
Can you tell me what law that is?
I see what you fucking did there.
And no I can't since it's been years since I've read about the UK law :v: I just remember it being brought up in some news story some years ago.

Hehe, I don't know how it is with the Swedish police. But I know that ticket inspectors on the Swedish trains does not have the rights to touch or make a person stay on the place even thought he hasn't bought a ticket. Probably the same thing regarding the cop in the video.
However I can't imagine an US Police being that patient. I can imagine the cyclist being tazered and brought to jail for resisting arrest.

He wasn't being arrested at that point... he was being fined. Regardless, yes the police have the obligation (in most jurisdictions around the world) to inform the person what they are being arrested for. It is normally illegal for the police to ignore the request for that information.
He did tell him what he was being ticketed for. Running through a red traffic light...
While that policeman needs to brushup on his laws, there is no requirement for him to tell you down to the section code.
The cyclist was a complete and utter dickhead. Normally i'm pretty chilled out to cyclists in london, despite (some of) them feeling entitled to ride however they please, ignoring rules of the road and acting like when it goes bad for them it's always a car drivers fault. That guy was a perfect example of one.
That guy should have just taken the ticket; it's a £30 fixed fine for cyclists, while for a car/motorcycle the maximum penalty for running a red light is a £1,000 fine, 6 penalty points endorsed on the driver’s licence, and even disqualification. Both the cyclist and motor vehicles can have similar consequences (someone can die if you get it wrong - I recently read about a cyclist running into a pedestrian crossing the road after running the red. It killed the ped.)
I hope that cyclist runs a red and gets destroyed by an artic.
Policeman just didn't know how to deal w/ him and got frustrated, doesn't excuse him though. If he was a more experienced copper he could have probably thought of something to do him for - and after the attitude he would find every tiny thing wrong with the guy/his bike etc and done him for them.
Policemen have too little power in the UK. Im guessing thats where the videos from
What an asshole, the camera man.
The cop handled it oddly, if I were in that situation I would of just asked why he passed through a red light, he could of been harmed, not to do it again and be on my way.
That's his life if he chooses to ignore it. If people are going to be that ignorant of their own health and safety then they deserve a crash of some sort.

As long as it's not into a car or another person.
Asshole behind the camera. He was asking the bobby what the exact words of the law were. The Bobby should have asked him the exact wording to whatever bill of rights his country used.
[editline]8th April 2011[/editline]
The Bobby was very fair. He never raised his voice nor did he criticize the cameraman.

Yes he was soooooooo fair when he assaulted the guy.
The officer looks like he's just had enough of pricks like him.
He was sweating so much, I kind of feel bad for the officer. Must have been scared for his well-being.
Guy in the video is mostly lucky. I know this would be a lot harder to pull of in the US.
