I don't think they got named in the TV series so they could be anyone.
True, but going by this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxr5XlXekBM, its pretty clear its them. Plus, this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJGUCeoI8ds, with Dave Filoni shows the line art of the commandos labeled as Boss and Sev.
lol the EU is so dumb. Fucking budgetary restrictions on Vader's suit lmao. [editline]1st January 2016[/editline] Who even reads this stuff unironically? It's like fun facts except they're not facts they're just random shit some writer made up on the spot about a fictional story.
Wow, that's gotta be one of the most egregious examples of "token lore" I've ever heard of. It goes beyond some dude in a cafeteria making up enough random bullshit to create a whole book's worth of boring padding and actually manages to end up being insulting the base material rather than enhancing it, not because just of how badly it was written, but because at some point the author(s) ran out of "rare and awesome" materials the suit was made from and started shoehorning in fucking "budget constraints" and "tragic technological limitations", which may have even worked for an entirely different setting and an entirely different type of badass, but here just undermines the entire character. In addition to the infodump already, by its very nature, undermining a mysterious character by naming and explaining every possible little mystery. Midichlorian Boogaloo basically. I've heard about the Expanded Universe being full of this stuff, but I at least expected people to have exaggerated to make it even more laughable. It painfully reeks of an author writing to meet a word count, not because there's anything worthwhile to write about.
Shit like Republic Commando and the cartoon and all that.
Delta Squad is canon though since they were in the Clone Wars cartoon, which is also canon.
since nobody posted it http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Vader's_armor

I love how people have to decide what is Canon. When a whole library of information is considered non-canon just because of a corporation acquisition, you should really stop caring who tells you what is and isn't canon. Because obviously the Executives don't care to figure it all out, you shouldn't have to.
I can't stop dying when watching this. His laugh is too good.
I guess the one good part about the EU wipe is that now people can just pick and choose the good shit to be canon. If a director or a writer liked Dark Forces, then bam, they just drop a Kyle Katarn reference and that wookiepedia page gets canon status. (well it's more complicated than that but you get the idea, one man's trash is another man's treasure)

And what is and isn't canon in the EU isn't permanent. The writers of the new movies and other media can add in garbage from the EU to their media and make it canon.
There is some cool stuff in EU
people keep saying this but the more of it i witness the harder i laugh when it's said
Poor Darth Vader :(
Because obviously the Executives don't care to figure it all out, you shouldn't have to.
why would they go through all that bullshit anyway disregard all of it. makes it so all the bad stuff is gone, plus they can easily gauge what appeals to people by seeing what the audience wants brought back, and it's not like there's anything really stopping them from making this or that canon again
It doesn't really matter whether some story is canon or not until it's actively retconned by something else.
people keep saying this but the more of it i witness the harder i laugh when it's said
If you look at the EU stuff that's centered around and after the original trilogy, the bad far, far outweighs the good. Even there there's some good stuff though, the Jedi Knight games are pretty great for one.

Y'know, because they were bad movies. Like if you're utterly in love with a work like a lot of people are with OT Star Wars then conscious or not I figure it's more likely that it's going to end up reading like fanwank rather than a unique story that happens to take place in the same universe. Does that make sense?
This video revealed things I didn't know. Mainly that the suit was really a piece of shit that tortured Vader. Some EU stuff is great or even amazing but this is one example how ridiculous EU can get.
Budgetary restraints is a ridiculous excuse though. Just say that ol' Palpie made the suit a piece of shit on purpose to gimp Vader and make him unable to reach his full potential. I always assumed that to be the case, rather than him being far too distracted by how shiny the woodo-leather polish on the helmet was...
honestly the idea of him being a war machine in an agonizing mobile coffin is pretty rad but why
honestly the idea of him being a war machine in an agonizing mobile coffin is pretty rad but why
"We made Vader's suit to be shitty on purpose. As a joke" - Sheev Palpatine, 19 BBY
So.. They can construct a planet sized super weapon of mass destruction but a suit is just completely out of the question in terms of budget. The Empire has some budgeting issues.
So.. They can construct a planet size super weapon of doom but a suit is just completely out of the question in terms of budget. The Empire has some budgeting issues.
Remember that it's in the continuity where Empire built not one, not two, not even three goddamn fund devouring superweapons, but somewhere along a dozen. But nope, let's give Vader a suit that can be turned off with one button, too small boots and a panel that bleeps and lights up for no reason.
I need more of these top ten lists in my life
I think someone could start a Youtube channel with someone just reciting really dumb/stupid/overly complex stuff from the EU/Legends universe. I'd subscribe to that shit for sure.
I dunno about you guys, but hearing this shit made me actually like Star Wars a little bit more. Granted, all that superfluous serial number malarkey was criminally dry and unneeded, but everything past that was goddamn gold. The idea of Emperor Palpatine silently chuckling to himself as he orders a pair of boots two sizes too small for Vader while sitting in the lobby of his own hospital shoots him way the hell up my list of liked characters.
The main reason Vaders suit is an unbearable piece of shit is because while Palpatine always considered Anakin disposable in a sense, he had become much more so after his injuries on Mustafar. So the suit was designed with faults that not only fueled Vaders pain and anger but also required regular checkups from specialized Imperial facilities, keeping him on a leash. The plan was always to replace him with a stronger, younger force sensitive later on anyway, in this case being luke. My other theory is that this is just breaking the 4th wall a bit, likening his crappy suit in the context of the story with the fact that A New Hope was made on a tight budget and was a rushed production.
I don't get the "The Legends EU is full of crappy nonsense that outweighs the good stuff" claims. So what if the techy info on Vader's suit goes on and on about budget and shiny things or every lightsaber has a Wookiepefia page? I mean, taking offense to bad stories like The Crystal Star I understand, but saying there's too much tedious info? You have to actively look for that stuff in the Essencial Guide books and tech illustration volumes. Otherwise, they're pretty much fluff in the grand scale of story writing quality. I say focus more on judging Dark Horse's comics or the Legacy of the Force/Fate of the Jedi books in terms of analyzing the faults (though I say this without understanding any issues with the DH comics beyond the "lack of wisecrack humor" argument.)
Ironically, all the best parts of the EU are the things that are set so far in the past that they have literally no connection to the movies except for the basic setting.
The Thrawn Trilogy was pretty damn good, sure it may be the only thing in the "post-Episode VI EU" that's good but damn was it a good read. Grand Admiral Thrawn was fucking badass.
Indeed
