[RedLetterMedia] The top ten things YOU didn't know about Darth Vader's suit!
I don't get the "The Legends EU is full of crappy nonsense that outweighs the good stuff" claims. So what if the techy info on Vader's suit goes on and on about budget and shiny things or every lightsaber has a Wookiepefia page? I mean, taking offense to bad stories like The Crystal Star I understand, but saying there's too much tedious info? You have to actively look for that stuff in the Essencial Guide books and tech illustration volumes. Otherwise, they're pretty much fluff in the grand scale of story writing quality. I say focus more on judging Dark Horse's comics or the Legacy of the Force/Fate of the Jedi books in terms of analyzing the faults (though I say this without understanding any issues with the DH comics beyond the "lack of wisecrack humor" argument.)
because at one point it stops being about coming up with interesting backstories and more about explaining everything for the sake of pedantry
we don't need shoehorned in explanations about how anakin's lightsaber being a lighter shade of blue in the OT, due to visual effects changing over time, actually has to do with the crystal inside of it aging

I dunno I find that stuff neat. I can appreciate both the technical pedantry and RLM riffing it.

We may not need them, but is it a burden that they're there at all? It's not like the old books dedicated an entire chapter to this sort of thing, you have to look to find any of that nonsense at all. It's not up front in our faces the same way mindichlorians were (and even that was three minute-long scenes total out of all three 2 1/2 hour prequels).
I like how they skipped the plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is an elective procedure, empire insurance don't cover that shit
And despite having the money to build a moon sized superweapon, they couldn't be bothered to find boots that fit.
This stuff is bullshit, but I guess I could buy the suit being shit because I guess something something dark side of the force something something the constant pain and agony enhances his hatred and power or whatever.

it cheapens it, is my point. rather than the result of a really good backstory idea or someone expanding on something interesting that was hinted at, a lot of it feels more like someone tediously filling out a form of things yet unexplained and coming up with half-assed answers for most of it

"The constant, agonizing pain fueled Vader's hatred and vastly strengthened his bond with the power of the Dark Side"
there you go

it just feels weird. I don't mind the little things, but this, with vaders suit, just makes it feel a lot less imposing and powerful then before. it used to be a suit of armor, life support on legs that felt strong, but in reality it was just a mash of random bargain-bin crap and buttons that could completely fuck the wearer over right on the front.
Their empire spans the galaxy and yet they can't afford to make a better suit for the right hand man of the emperor.

Even a galaxy-spanning empire still has to deal with the true great evil.
Budget constraints.

I find it hilarious that the moment 'budget constraints' comes up yet again on Vader being blocked off from an opportunity for a new and improved suit, they begin laughing so hard they can't even finish and just skip to the next part.
I bet if Vader wasn't royally fucked up and was 'normal' physically still, he'd still basically get no imperial healthcare due to budget, because Palpatine is a dick.

this is cool
so kylo ren is a weak as hell
I'm fine with most of the EU being retconned because Revan, Kotor, and Delta Squad are still canon.
so kylo ren is a weak as hell
Well, (significant spoilers) [sp]he's not even a Sith, he's just trained in the Force and has some swordsmanship that's more like swinging his unstable lightsaber around like a claymore. If anything, besides his stunt at the beginning of the movie by stopping a sniper bolt entirely in place, the rest of the movie he's pretty average / sub-par for a Force user, and that's mostly because he's arrogant and relies on his anger too much to the point that it clouds his better judgement and capability. Couple that with a focused Rey, and a severe wound to his abdomen from an explosive crossbow bolt that caught him off-guard, and it's no wonder he gets wrecked.[/sp]
How would Darth Vader shit? He can't have tube going from up his ass to a canister, cause then he'd either smell like shit and need to have his shit canister replaced every week, and he can't have it getting expelled otherwise he'd literally leak shit every once in a while.
Revan, Kotor, and Delta Squad are still canon.
Nope, not really, they exist and that's it.

comfirming kylo is weak as hell

Delta Squad appeared in the canon Clone Wars show, and Revan was set to appear in the show as well but was cut out as Lucas said that it conflicted with his views of the force.

As I said, Revan is not canon, neither is KOTOR and the only thing canon about Delta Squad is that they exist.
Cut content is cut content. At the start of Disney Canon the only things that were canonical are the movies (in their 2004, Special Edition form) and TCW.

the way i look at it delta squad being in tCW was mostly just to make republic commando fans feel better, but whether or not they meant that to mean the game is canon i doubt the creators are going to deny a game they're clearly fans of

Dave Filoni was a big fan of the games, what is why they got it.
There was also a Commando in season 4 or 5 who got some action on screen. Even showed his helmet from the inside and it looked like the game.

Revan can be canon since they said all unfinished episodes and their unused scripts are canon but for the scripts they're trying to work them into other things.
"Budgetary restraints." The shit the Empire pulls, and Vader's suit has budget issues and useless buttons?
Revan can be canon since they said all unfinished episodes and their unused scripts are canon but for the scripts they're trying to work them into other things.
No, that was only for episodes not produced. The episode Revan was meant to appear in was produced.
Good to know that Robot Chicken Palpatine was pretty much canon in the EU
