Resident evil hasnt been survival horror for like a decade now. This is a step in the right direction unless you wamt another RE 6.
Honestly it feels like Capcom refuses to work in anything but extremes. They went too far into the action route with RE6, and now they're just winding everything back to go "okay let's try this again" as a survival horror that goes to a further horror-focused extent than the originals.
I'm open to the idea of an FPS Resi game if they make it good.
While this has me intrigued, I'd love to see another survival horror with tank controls and fixed camera angles.

Resident Evil can't stick with the exact same formula forever. On the bright side, there is the RE2 remake coming.
What happened to this thing?
It turned into Devil May Cry

I know that Devil May Cry came from a wildly different Resident Evil sequel but how the fuck did they go from that to Devil May Cry?
Why are there hillbilly's.
am i the only one okay with it/this being a fucking fps?
am i the only one okay with it/this being a fucking fps?
No. Read the rest of the thread.
Nothing about this trailer registers to me as Resident Evil, aside from the door creaking noises. Even when the series took itself seriously, it was campy. There were absurd puzzles where you need the crest from the death trap, to open the lab door. And your protagonist wasn't always gibbering, and wimpering, and breathing heavily, whilst cowering in a corner. RE4 was a step in a new direction. This also is, but it reeks of Amnesia/Outlast/P.T./Layers of Fear/All those fucking Slenderman games. Makes it seem Capcom is jumping on the bandwagon.
It wasn't a bad game. Just really not so resident'sy evil'y as the name would have suggested.
there were horrifying parts in the game though, like the bossfight against the bulletproof guard, the cage boss, the invisible bugs that melt your face off, or the regenerator/iron maidens. [editline]17th August 2016[/editline] 5 is where you got silly shit all over the place, and 6 is just nonsense.
Doesn't this come out with Playstation VR support or am I mistaken?
Doesn't this come out with Playstation VR support or am I mistaken?
Some people have played the demo with PSVR.
Doesn't this come out with Playstation VR support or am I mistaken?
It does. Also hope it's better than the demo, was pretty disappointed with the demo since it felt really cheap and relied on jump scares and randomly spawning objects.
I know that Devil May Cry came from a wildly different Resident Evil sequel but how the fuck did they go from that to Devil May Cry?
DMC1 actually came from a different version of 4, one that was even more action-packed than the version we got. The RE4 Hookman demo basically turned into, well, Resident Evil 7. That's why I'm looking forward to this so much. There's actually atmosphere and claustrophobia, this bleak sense of helplessness that the series never really got the chance to touch upon before. Also hope it's better than the demo, was pretty disappointed with the demo since it felt really cheap and relied on jump scares and randomly spawning objects.
There weren't really any jump scares except for Andre's dead body (which kind of ripped off Blair Witch), and I guess the Family Man. The rest was pretty much all atmosphere.
I haven't given a shit about RE for a long time. I personally am glad to see it with a new feel. As long as they keep the puzzles and shit in I'll probably love this.

"Just how did Leon S. Kennedy gain demonic powers and become a total badass?" Some will say it was executive restructuring of a failing project. Others will rightly claim Kamiya willed it, and it happened. DMC 1 through 4 still have a weird number of holdovers from the RE series. The way it handles description text in DMC is the exact same way, a lot of the "puzzles" are in a similar vein.
DMC1 actually reuses a lot of old PS1-era Resident Evil sound effects too. You can definitely see a lot of reused assets.

as long as low resources and inventory management play key parts in this I think the move to first person will work well.
I don't want to be negative about this game, but I honestly don't see what people like about this. Rather than making a Resident Evil game, they're making a generic survival game and people are acting like it's some fucking bold move. Good job Capcom, just abandon Resident Evil because people who haven't played the originals in 20 years keep comparing them to Amnesia. Maybe I'm wrong and the game will be more like Resident Evil of the past and the advertising is just playing up the horror part, but I don't like what I've seen at all.
While i'm pessimistic as much as you about RE's future based on iteration they create, RE7 does have weapons and inventory stuff in the demo. Personally I'm waiting until they show off any combat before drawing a conclusion.
[sp]The randomly spawning falling toy when you get the cutter, the mannequin falling down from around the corner, there were a few others I think.[/sp]
Well, I guess different people have different definitions of jump scares. Those didn't really startle me as much. That's really the problem with jump scares, they don't always work. Then again, you can say that older games in the series had tons of jump scares too. Remember the interrogation room in Resident Evil 2?
B-but 4 was good :c.
It was good as its own thing. Just like the old RE games with the tank controls or just the more classical approach were.

And I don't think this girl is it. The trailer is clearly a tape, like in the demo. It's likely one of many playable tapes you can find as the main character, probably Ethan. Probably the same dude we play as in the demo. Who is probably looking for this girl. It seems like you'll find a variety of tapes in the game of different people, all of which playable. Which I really like, as mini-stories within the main game. We know that Ethan will be able to use weapons, shotguns are teased and there are controls for it as well as an axe in the demo. I feel like this family has an infected member who they kidnap people to feed or something, or they're all just fucked up from another one of Umbrellas experiments considering the family man in the demo is missing a lot of face skin. I don't see what's not to like about this. Survival, horror, actual combat, looking for someone, a staple of the franchise, mini playable stories throughout the game. Sounds great to me.
I'm not a fan of how they're advertising the game. They're making it look like an Amnesia or Outlast style of horror game, but Resident Evil is a Survival Horror game. Until I saw the projector room in the trailer I was worried there wouldn't be any puzzles in the game, but that small pillar in the middle just screams puzzle. To me horror games are boring as fuck. "Oh no, a monster I can't defend myself from. Better hide behind a box until it decided to fuck off for a while." Survival Horror is all about resource management, learning the world you inhabit, and mitigating the threats of the monsters. Sometimes that means killing, but most of the time it means running away, either is fine. I don't understand the praise this is getting. "Yay, now it's a horror game!" is what I hear, but all I can think is "Fuck, they're stripping out all the survival stuff". I don't understand people praising this game and comparing it to the originals, the originals had giant mutant sharks, zombie dogs, a grenade launcher. You finish the game by shooting a fucking giant mutant man with a rocket launcher. This game looks like a decent horror game and an awful Resident Evil game. Every time I look at something new from this game I'm thinking "So, a Tyrant or a big water creature or a fuck off huge spider or a plant monster is gonna pop up and we'll shoot it right? I mean those are the things that make Resident Evil an iconic series and not just Scary Game Series #52...so, where is anything substantial that makes this Resident Evil?". This is looking like another case of strange, gamer delusion. Like when everyone said Resident Evil 4's control scheme was vastly superior and totally different to classic RE... and it was literally the same fucking tank controls with slightly better aiming.

I actually found Resi4 scary in some parts, not this kind of scary but quite nerve wracking especially when you got fucking cornered by the villagers.
I greatly prefer first person for games like this but I feel like I can't really blame people because I'd probably be just as annoyed if a first person series I had a lot of investment in suddenly switched to forced third person I want to see some gameplay showing off the game's mechanics like inventory management or puzzles/combat, hide n seek survival horror isn't anything super cool to watch
