Honestly I think Blizzard are a bit lazy with how they direct these things. They're just so predictable and uninspired.
Very pretty though.
mcree's flashbang? Ana's sleep? this is just another silence, except it only disables the ult, not the entire player
It disables all of their abilities, not just their ults.
Chris Metzen no longer writes for Blizzard and the writing in next Overwatch short is better than in all the previous ones.
Hmmm...
I like these shorts but they're so damn predictable. I knew immediately that she would not be killed because blizzard never shows humans die in them.

Sure its predictable but its also a hell of a lot more interesting than her just walking into the office and blowing her brains out.
Her origin story.

hey at least they had reaper & sombra actually shooting at people this time
unlike soldier76's short
I feel stupid for being surprised that she had a spanish accent. Her name means shade or shadow in spanish ffs
I like these shorts but they're so damn predictable. I knew immediately that she would not be killed because blizzard never shows humans die in them.
Did you miss all the guards getting killed right at the start?
I mean, it's true, important characters never die, but this is actually the first short where human mooks do die.

Also genjis

reinhardt is the only character where it doesn't sound like an american trying to do an accent

Have to disagree. Ana was done really well.
Have to disagree. Ana was done really well.
yeah, i take that back. ana is good and hanzo/genji arent bad either
at least they kept up with the god awful voice acting
Sombra's accent is kind of annoying. And she looks like she got a makeover from a 12-year-old girl.
i wonder if sombra is the little girl that S76 saves in his short
i wonder if sombra is the little girl that S76 saves in his short
Unless that little girl magically de-aged to 4, became an orphan and then magically aged to 30 chances are they are not the same person.
hey at least they had reaper & sombra actually shooting at people this time

One guy in the Sombra video as Reaper's killing everyone just runs into a mech and falls over.
Comedic timing?

If you look at this image from the new short (which is super cool btw) you can see that there is a second picture of the Russian woman "booping" what looks like her daughter. Sombra probably has been monitoring this woman for quite sometime, and I believe the boop along with her conversations are not only veiled threats to expose this woman, but also a threat about her daughter. The boop was a reminder that Sombra knows about the more intimate details about her life.
Pretty scary stuff if you ask me!
reaper is such a fucking jobber
reaper is such a fucking jobber
Why didn't Reaper bring Sombra when attacking Winston's lab to get the Overwatch agent list?
Why didn't Reaper bring Sombra when attacking Winston's lab to get the Overwatch agent list?
don't ever try to inject logic into blizzards writing
To be fair, Sombra wasn't finished when they did that short.
Why didn't Reaper bring Sombra when attacking Winston's lab to get the Overwatch agent list?
A moment in crime hadn't finished loading yet.
reinhardt is the only character where it doesn't sound like an american trying to do an accent
the funny thing being they got actors of those nationalities to voice the characters in english afaik
Honestly got really hype seeing [sp]Zarya[/sp] pop up in the end. Prob the best moment in the whole short.
I wish this game's lore had literally anything to do with the game itself.
And how would they do that? The game alreadys does have some lore in it. Its a shooter first before it's a story game.
I guess even in the "future" they still use MP7's.
I wish this game's lore had literally anything to do with the game itself.
Overwatch uses practically the same narative structure as TF2. The game is just the setting for the gameplay, the story happens outside the game
And how would they do that? The game alreadys does have some lore in it. Its a shooter first before it's a story game.
it's in the game as bits and pieces but they're so disconnected from each other. you have those little blog posts, the backstory videos, the actual cinematics, probably comics in the future, and then the game, and they all feel very disconnected and don't seem to mesh well when smashed together. there's a sort of haphazard way they're putting all these different stories together and it seems like they could go hand in hand if they put a little more time and effort into it.
i know it's been compared to a million times, but the tf2 comics are perfect because they mostly take place after the game (for the most part, i'd argue that most of the 'war comics' take place around the end of the gravel wars. stuff like meet the medic is a clear exception but again, it's makes it feel like the game.) and can take on their own canon, but blend well with the in-game stuff cause it's vague. the characters in tf2 are a shell full of personality to be explored. whereas in overwatch, it's very specifically taking place before the events in game and it's alllllll backstory and needs to perfectly lead up to the in-game characters (which it doesn't really, except for some rare occurrences.) and the characters aren't really interesting imo cause they're so one-shot-like. or like, they take some really weird liberties, like bastion shooting a bunch of dudes doesn't seem like the bird loving fellow he was in the short. plus, if overwatch want's to take itself seriously, it needs to actually do that, whereas TF2 could be a little bit of each as long as it always tied back into the funny bits. and it all made sense in the universe because the universe was set up long ago not to make sense.
i could go on but honestly the biggest gripe for me is how disconnected it all is, because it seems like the game devs are trying to fight the cinematic devs, and you can say "oh its for the sake of the gameplay" but if they just didn't take the story part of it so damn seriously they could actually do something fun and tie it into the game well, instead of trying to tell a dramatic story about the assassination of an ambassador or robo ptsd, poorly told i might add. so much fucking potential but it almost always needs more polish to work well.
the original short was the best, just a little bit of serious and a little bit of comedy and a good mix of everything. it also felt almost like gameplay with a bit of structure thrown in. they went too far with the formula and now it's more stale than day old bread.
Overwatch uses practically the same narative structure as TF2. The game is just the setting for the gameplay, the story happens outside the game
i'd disagree. see what i said earlier about how overwatch tells backstory after backstory where TF2 is in the midst of the action. plus, again, overwatch takes itself too seriously, and fails to do so due to how the characters are so poorly built. the foundation is all wrong, everything is disconnected. TF2's lore at least feels crafted and they took their time with it. tf2 is a sandwich and overwatch is two pieces of bread with some pepper thrown on top, nothing but a hint of substance.
