Icky bug contributes to asthma and asthma attacks. Asthma attacks are dangerous and sometimes fatal. Therefore, icky bug is dangerous and sometimes fatal. They are pests.
To people with asthma or other respiratory problems.
Otherwise, they don't present much of a threat towards normal, healthy people.
We can only really quantify pain and suffering by the actions and reactions of the creature. Beyond that we have no way of knowing what the creature is experiencing. They definitely experience pain, but suffering, the emotional interpretation of pain, is a more tricky subject.
Advanced aliens might argue that human suffering is unimportant because we lack the capability to experience what they would call "true suffering".
In the end it comes down to human empathy. Insect suffering is functionally meaningless to us, but being alarmed when we see other creatures reacting with distress to our actions is very helpful considering us living in a society.
Insects do not have the receptors to feel pain, or the nervous system complex enough to report it or feel emotion. It is literally as simple as that. Insects do not feel pain. There is a fuck load of science to back this up.
When you pull the leg off a cockroach, its reaction is purely insticnt because it knows its missing a leg and potentially still in danger. It doesnt feel pain or stress or sadness, it doesnt feel anything in that regard. Its body is not complex enough to process that sort of stimulation.
This isnt some sort of moral or ethical debate, insects do not feel pain.

Yes they do. Cockroaches carry several diseases as well as bacteria since their preferred harborage is rott and filth. Cockroaches are a big cause of food poisioning and salmonella. Saying cockroaches are harmless is completely false.

Notice how I said much of a threat than definitely not a threat at all (although I did forget to add "in most cases" in there as well for the former).
Of course handling the damn things unprotected would still be a bad idea.

Yeah, I just realized my use of wording has been particulary horrible in this thread so far, but I wanted to steer away from becoming a mouthpiece for people like Bogleech.

Cockroaches carry everything from Polio to salmonella. Thats a little bit more escalating than "not much of a threat".
They're cockroaches, they breed faster than you could ever kill them and I don't think the Cockroach UN will be offended, who gives a fuck
I don't even think insects can feel pain or even really think beyond basic stimuli responses.. so yes I don't go out of my way to squish bugs because organisms are cool but I don't think it's worth crying over.
