Yeah, no. You find assholes anywhere, don't even start pretending the F2P system has anything to do with it.
F2P did have some factor in it though, such as allowing a constant flood of new people into the game and such.
Yeah, no. You find assholes anywhere, don't even start pretending the F2P system has anything to do with it.
When a game goes free to play, it becomes accessable to many more people. More people = more chances to meet an asshat.
I honestly don't play TF2 anymore, every recent update really makes me depressed. I open it up to see what the update is about, and just get disappointed. I have this pyro avatar only because I still like the characters, still enjoy the SFM's people create. Still need to sell my backpack at some point... I remember back when the war update was new, that stuff was fun as fuck. Everything slowly went downhill since F2P. I can't believe I wasted 7,000 hours in this game and it died like this.
I'm just as sad as you are. a good couple of years stuck in a community server because of a map that didn't make my computer cry, all the hard dedication to this once good game, only to see it filled with toxic people, that in turn have made me toxic from having to deal with them. Hightower, 2fort, Dustbowl, only these, and no other. Characters and SFM are the only things keeping TF2 alive in spirit for me, the game is practically dead to me now.
tbh, I'm not even sure the guy is hacking in the first place. Crackshots are not hard if you could guess where a dude might appear. If you are headshotted consistently close quarters then sure, he may be a hacker. But in common sniper nest or on the always congested bridge, you could always expect somebody to scope in real fast. A lot of the shots the jbird has done felt more hack-y than the shots the guy made and we all can see he's not hacking. He's no better than those calling him out. He's just doing the call outs passive aggressively via video.
Haven't played TF2 in a while. I'm thinking about selling my stuff for a little cash, but I don't trust the community anymore
On an unrelated note, one of my friends joined a server full of furries talking about their OCs and shit. None of them were killing each other. He found a group of them under a bridge and killed them. They then kicked him for "disturbing the nest".
He's called Silkee the Boom Boom King and he always was always super cancerous and he thought he was the best at surfing. He always plays scout and wears this shitty crown which he named something dumb. He even made a rap song about himself that's how highly he thinks of himself.
I was playing on 2fort a few years ago and I unlocked the huntsman. The other team had several snipers and I started killing them with the huntsman and they got mad and started accusing me of hacking. He found a group of them under a bridge and killed them. They then kicked him for "disturbing the nest".
that one is not funny . . . . . is creepy
I miss the basic tf2 (2007- early 2009).

I gave my stuff to my friend to stop my trading addiction, and then after that I managed to quit the game entirely. It'll probably remain as the game I've logged the most hours in forever though.
I remember back in the day, I got server admin, banned some aimbotters... One of them, friend with the server owner, complained he got banned and couldn't play, he got unbanned, I lost my admin rights. I knew right then and there that the game was going to shitter, but I had hopes it would not happen for a while. It would have been obvious once TF2 turned f2hack :)
y are there so many numbers on the screen??
y are there so many numbers on the screen??
Which numbers? There's his hud and the damage numbers. Beyond those the only numbers I see are in the chat.
I still remember the Halo incident, people going apeshit because Valve gave away free hats to folks who might have literallry done nothing but sad in an idle server while other simply wanted a faster way to get hats without paying. I think I'm done with TF2 now too, all that's really left for me is the Comic series, and even that's taking an odd turn. I think I'm gonna shortly sell off all my items for keys, sell those keys for money, then be done with the whole thing.
I never could understand why people were so raging at halo owners and even changed the texture on some servers into "FAG" or something.
Maybe I was lucky but a month back I returned to TF2 after a long time and had a lot of fun. I dominated the game couple of times and no toxic reaction at all. I sticked to normal servers and played medic, soldier, demo, spy... no sniper so maybe that helped.

Ah, TF2 - it's like watching an old friend fall from grace. The game that got me into shooters, the game that taught me so many things about character design and gameplay and how much love and effort went into it. Nowadays I just bitch about the seriously unfunny comics and how I can't find a decent Aussie server that has sv_pure disabled and isn't a trade or insta-spawn 2fort to anyone who will listen. I still refuse to sell all my backpack, even with the chunk of cash I could get out of it, because there's still some sentimental value attached to it. I'm saying to myself maybe I'll boot up a game again, I'll definitely have a use for these.
I miss the basic tf2 (2007- early 2009).
for it's like that right now mostly ( minus the untradable stuff which is fucking bull ) I have sold/traded all my tf2 stuff after so many people low balling me to I finaly got something I was somewhat happy with no where near what is worth but I don't sign up for any of that 3rd party site
I think I medic - sniper combo'd this guy before and he was accused of hacking, but I backed him up

i dropped tf2 just after the engy update came out because my pc died and i had to use an old laptop so no gaming, eventually lost interest. looking at it now it feels like i played a different game entirely, though i still enjoyed the thousands of hours (and hundreds in the xboxversion as well) i have in tf2
It's still really fun.
I dunno what it is but i used to really love TF2 but now it's just boring Maybe because i took a break and came back and everyone was using items that i had no idea how to counter or even what they were and it just put me off
I kind of stopped after one of the later mvm updates. I still have a strange festive knife. I should probably sell that before it devalues.
TF2 began to gradually shit the bed with the first few class updates. By the time the last class-specific update was out, the game had already taken a turn for the worse.
This makes me super sad because I've been into TF2 since 2008, been with it through just about every update. Made lots of friends because of it. Now it's just slowly but surely dying. And it's hard to point the finger at something. Valve, Player base, something else?
It's not dying? The game has never left top 10 current players in Steam, it's currently top 3 and it's behind 2 other Valve games.
Last few times I played TF2, I just screwed around as Demoknight. One time, in what was both my most proud and most shameful moment, I saw a heavy/medic IRL couple that wore a different set of matching unique hats every time they spawned. I used the Charging Targe/Grenade combo that could oneshot overhealed heavies to suicide bomb them over and over until they ragequit.
