I wonder what the budget was for the foley artists
Isn't this based on that one sci fi story where all humans where punished by aliens who are like reaaally good at bio-engineering?
Mind sharing the name of that story?
because that's Half-Life and this is a slow-paced exploratory horror game. the guns are just there to be straightforward problem-solvers and should play as such. frankly i'm surprised there's even more than one type of weapon
Hivehand was just an example. Flying angry wasps coming out of your hand may not be an optimal solution for a horror game, but there are many other ways in which you could design a gun to be more alien. Having a game with such outlandish asthetics adhere to the most boring and usual design trends where it doesnt even make sense in the setting is a horrible shame.
Like, why not a gun that shoots thorns, or sneezes lethaly at enemies instead of just being an asexual hitscan thingy? Im sure there are doesns of different creative ways to make a weapon that compliments exploratory horror instead of being just a revolver made of flesh.
Looks way more enjoyable and inspired than Agony.

It was posted in the creepy thread last year, it's a bit more than just alien bio engineering, but seriously the whole story is worth the read. (The part he might be talking about is page 36 if you wanna skip some parts)

I must agree with you on this. If they have these exotic looking guns shoot like real life guns then they may as well just have used realistic guns to begin with. With this organic looking thing I would expect exotic mechanics as well.
That being said it looks really cool, its like H.R. Giger and Lovecraft had a baby. Too bad I don't like horror games, might just watch someone on twitch play it or something though.
Glad I'm not the only one disappointed in the guns. There are so many more interesting possibilities for weapons that just "it's a normal-ass gun but made of skin"
I'm surprised it's the guns that everyone is disappointed by and not the aliens. The creature designs look more Lynch than Giger, grotesque but too silly to be scary.
Man, the biological structure shit is so unsettling.
H.R. Giger's wet dream.
It looks and sounds fantastic, however I'm still kind of unsure on the gameplay... I can't tell what it wants to achieve here between the gunplay (that doesn't look too interesting) and the horror aspects.
I'm a bit worried, but hell, as a huge Giger fan (with a signed Necronomicon!) I can't help but not give a shit anyway because it looks so sick. Backed.
I'm hoping they make ammo/supplies scarce, similar to other Survival Horror games like Resident Evil.
I got it figured out, this is Darkseed 3: Mike Dawson strikes back.
I like the guns but I was expecting something more weird. Like a gun that vomits out stomach acid and it makes the creatures scream in pain. Or a gun that shoots out its guts and begins to strangle and digest the enemy, it keeps the enemy from being able to attack you but you're stuck to it until it dies or you run out of ammo
They showcased 2 guns in this, there is probably more.
It looks like it's trying to strike a balance between slow horror and light gunplay which is great imo, the guns look and sound great and the impacts are meaty (heh).

yea that's the idea
-Inventory and ammo management - is defined and limited. It plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Players will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how their actions affect the world around them. Different play styles will be needed to advance.
Fuck it I went ahead and did the tier 3 pledge. Hope the kickstarter succeeds, it looks so good.
EWWW: The Video Game
plot twist: you're just a mechanic on this weird biological alien ship and none of what is happening is particularly odd or scary to you, just a regular part of your job
ExistenZ anyone?

A name for said story would be nice
It's motherfucking BILLAIN doing the soundtrack. Holy shit!
I'm betting they saved the crazier looking weapons for when the game releases. I'm sure we're gonna get more than just gross looking shotguns.
H.R. Giger's wet dream.
No, not enough weird sexual stuff.

at the end you get blinded by a giant cock so maybe
Finally! I made my pledge, now I wait.

I'm not sure if "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" is related to this
I hope they have a way of making the environments not look so homogeneous. Games like this always suffer from these issues - looks great but look exactly the same after 10 minutes.
That being said the shotgun was fucking brutal.
I'm not sure if "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" is related to this
Good thing he's not talking about "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream." :v:
"I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" is about a sentient supercomputer killing virtually all life on Earth via networked weapons of mass destruction, except for the protagonists, whom it keeps alive to torture.
I'm not jumping on the backer hype train because last time I did that I got mighty number 9
don't let some shitshow like Mighty No. 9 stop you from backing this lol. That mess launched a kickstarter with nothing but ideas and concept art. This project has been in full development for years, has a gameplay trailer, and soon will even have a demo to try out. Way different situations in terms of knowing what to expect as the end product.
This looks like it has pretty cool visuals but not much past that - combat seems to be extremely slow and sluggish and the weapons extremely unoriginal from their function given what source material they are working with. I hope this will be more than just a 'we made 3D models from Giger art oh also here is some shallow fps gameplay/walking sim since we couldn't work out how to rip off Amnesia right'.
Trailers usually don't show puzzles but I do hope it will be a major part to figure out how exotic mechanisms and controls could work to progress in the game.
the gameplay actually kind of reminds me of the original Prey. which is great
i am fine with a slower, more methodical shooter
