the gameplay actually kind of reminds me of the original Prey. which is great
i am fine with a slower, more methodical shooter
Honestly, the game as a whole gives me some strong Prey vibes.
All it needs are vagina-walls for enemies to come out, and lots of sphincter doors everywhere.
I'm betting they saved the crazier looking weapons for when the game releases. I'm sure we're gonna get more than just gross looking shotguns.
gross looking miniguns

It was posted in the creepy thread last year, it's a bit more than just alien bio engineering, but seriously the whole story is worth the read. (The part he might be talking about is page 36 if you wanna skip some parts)

plot twist: you're just a mechanic on this weird biological alien ship and none of what is happening is particularly odd or scary to you, just a regular part of your job
The end is going to be you fix the equivalent of the toilet on that ship and then go back home to your alien wife and argue for 6 hours straight
No, not enough weird sexual stuff.
Agony is the game for you then.
Weird like Scorn, with the possibility touching the boobs of a succubus which have a vagina with teeths for a mouth.
Also everyone is naked.
I like a powerful gun, but I can't help but feel it's a little weird that these organ-guns made up of flesh and bone sound just like an actual gun might. The shotgun in particular sounds almost metallic.
It's not a big deal, but I think it's odd.

So basically, Meshuggah?
The atmosphere for this looks fantastic, but I'm hoping to see the gameplay be a bit more fleshed out than just a linear, hallway-based first person shooter. It could be an amazing experience being lost in an environment like this while trying to hold onto whatever resources you have, but if this is all the game has to offer it would be a little underwhelming.

I'm going to need this mod.
Eh, this looks like it could get a bit dull quick. It isn't really all that scary so I feel the slow pace was a mistake.

As someone who loved SOMA, this scratches a similar itch while actually having some action gameplay mixed in which is perfectly fine by me.
Scary games really aren't my style, so I personally am hoping we swing a little more towards the DOOM side of things. That said, even if I can't RIP AND TEAR, I'll probably buy this game. I don't think I can afford to back it right now.
The environment is gorgeous, but the gameplay (what little we saw), was just too slow for my taste, without any real exploration nuance. It felt like the character (or player) knew exactly where to go to get the new remote thing, and to push the button to raise the platform thing, and to not actually go across the platform thing. We'll see how it turns out.
If nothing else the artstyle really has me hooked.

Hopefully it'll provide a similar experience to SOMA with world building and describing what's actually happening around you.

The whole concept of being able to interact with enemies without outright shooting or sneaking past them is really neat to me and not enough games do it. I'd love a game that takes Metro 2033's library level and expands the concept into a full length title.
Eh, this looks like it could get a bit dull quick. It isn't really all that scary so I feel the slow pace was a mistake.
I don't think it being scary was their goal, it looks like they wanted it to feel horrific (as in viscerally repulsive) while intriguing and deeply unsettling. They don't really mention anything about the game being designed to be spooky in their kickstarter page but they make extensive mentions of how they wanted the player to feel like a fish out of water, or a rat in a maze.
I'm surprised it's the guns that everyone is disappointed by and not the aliens. The creature designs look more Lynch than Giger, grotesque but too silly to be scary.
I think that may be very intentional.
The underlying structure/architecture sort of looks like something that's inspired by Giger's work, but the fleshy overgrowth and the creatures don't give me that vibe in the slightest. It's definitely going for an entirely different kind of horror than anything Alien too.
It's exciting that the game departs a lot from what you normally see in terms of bio horror right now.
Imo it looks like alien technology being corrupted by something organic. A virus taking over a facility or something like that
ya all that gross shit is clearly not part of the underlying architecture
ya all that gross shit is clearly not part of the underlying architecture
The underlying architecture is still gross and organically based so it's just a perfect mix of eugh
I was thinking it's like dark ambient was made into a setting but it's pretty much what you hear through the whole trailer.
Imo it looks like alien technology being corrupted by something organic. A virus taking over a facility or something like that
It's a really smart blending of the influences. The 'artificial' structures and technology are Giger-based while the organics are Beksinski.
The player seemingly a mix of the two.
This is how all metroid games should look like.

Make it blue with lots of glowy bits and that's what Phaaze could have been. A living planet.
It kind of reminds me of the last level of Flashback in a way.

The vibe of the game is 'chaotic organicness invades precise mechanicalness' and giger's style of alien is more the latter so kind of goes against the whole point...

Sure, but after the reveal trailer, nearly all the fans would complain the different artistic director had taken.
Btw, when Medroid Prime first appeared, what kind of backslash had from the fans?
This, in a way, is pretty much what I imagine Xen from Half-Life being like. Completely alien, unrecognizable structures and weird technology. And instead, we get Spooky Caves ft. Glovy Crystals.
Backing this shit up right the moment I can, world needs more of stuff like this.
