I preordered ARMA 2 when it was first coming out, and then bought OA later on. Technically they're Combined Ops, but would I still get to beta test?
I'm pretty sure you would, but you'd be much better off asking at Bohemia's forums. I'm really talking out my ass from what I remember them saying about everyone getting beta access around the time of E3 last year, so take everything I say with a pinch of shit. You might also want to see what you needed to own to play the take on helicopters beta before it released.
The Interface for items and shit isn't even that complicated or hard
Why the hell are you guys having so much problem with it?
I hope they make the ragdolls more realistic. I know it's still in development, but when a person goes down, they just slump to the floor in the same pose every time. The animations were better and more varied in ARMA 2.
They're moving over to the newest Physx engine, so the ragdolling will be much better by community alpha
I heard them say PhysX for vehicle physics and such, so all I have to say to that is: what about AMD users?
Ever since nVidia locked down PhysX, are we going to just get shitty scaled down physics because of marketing feuds?

They aren't using Nvidia specific features like GPU particles or cloth.
Yeah, breaking someones nose really keeps the volume down. It might work that way in action movies but not in real life.
You'd be lucky if you really knocked him out by smashing him in the face.
Besides, if you are trying to be stealthy you should be carrying a gun with a silencer + subsonic ammo anyways, although those are pretty loud it's still better then someone screaming on the floor with a broken face.
The only melee I could see happening in Arma might be coming up to someone from behind and smothering them.
It keeps the volume down a lot more than firing a rifle in his face though. the entire fucking town wont hear you.

it wouldn't really make sense not to use your rifle butt if you just needed to push someone back, I mean it may not be stealthy but pushing your enemy down is a large part of hand-to-hand combat

Just as well, the last of the demonstrations of the live combat scenario had a moment where the player ran right into an enemy around a corner, near point-blank. In situations of stealth, low ammo, or otherwise, it could beneficial to slam the enemy over and dispose of them while they're down or such instead of open automatic fire with a rifle. Not that hand-to-hand or melee is necessary, but it'd have a small amount of usefulness occasionally.
Of course, it's also something folks could probably just mod right in.
I wonder what the stories going to be like. Since the PMC ending with the nuke being stopped was canon from what I could tell. The war in southeast asia during ToH implies that.
Or you know, bayonets.
Which are still in use today.
I hope the actually make full use of the Z Axis on joysticks (throttle), in ArmA 2 it only uses half of the Z Axis.

Aren't they not used because they tend to get stuck in the chest of the one getting stabbed?
nvm lol
Doesn't look like it has gotten huge improvements, graphic wise. The animations are looking good, I can't wait to create my own missions under water.
Oh, and I'm going to explore fucking everything with the editor.
