well i mean this track has one of the weakest messages i've ever heard in a rap song 'dont do drugs'
Because Hopsin has been there before and lived through a friend getting addicted. I'm sorry this song isn't "deep" enough for you.
I don't really like hiphop that much, but somehow I really like the weird experimental shit like Death Grips and Captain Murphy.
drake is probably one of the most bland, unoriginal rappers i have ever listened to and to be honest, i really dont think that the production of this video is all that bad
you kidding? drake gets a bad rap (heh) because he's with YMCMB and started the YOLO fad, but he's incredibly talented and has sculpted an entire style from the ground up. Take Care was one of the best albums of 2011. It had quality production from The Weeknd, and was incredibly personal and emotional (far more than this pseudo-conscious shit that hopsin's pushing). production of the video is okay, production of the music is the sort of stuff i hear all my wannabe-rapper friends put up on soundcloud and spam across twitter and facebook.
hopsin's seriously just a hypocritical wannabe-eminem. he appeals to the 90's dadrockers who think all rap sucks, and he does that by acting like a middle-school psa and having cringe-worthy hooks, middle school hot topic style, and super fucking terrible fruity loops beats. seriously, if you think hopsin is anything more than mediocre you're delusional. he's terrible. he calls out tyler for being gimmicky and having wack beats when he's actually the gimmick with wack beats. he's a good rapper but his content is abysmal and his production is some of the worst in the entire genre. i've heard unprofessional mixtapes with better production. if he stuck with the Am I A Psycho style, he'd be pretty fucking great, I enjoyed that song. but instead he makes family-friendly teletubby DARE songs.
dude what the hell do you post on /r/hiphopheads i saw someone post basically the same thing i a few hours ago

Ill mind of Hopsin 5 was fucking awesome. This was just as awesome!
Ill mind of Hopsin 5 was fucking awesome. This was just as awesome!
Ill Mind 5 was good because it was so direct and called people out on bullshit. This would've been ten times better if it didn't have the hook. Hopsin's bad at hooks. He's good at verses. If he'd cut the crying and hooks it'd be so much better.
Im a simple man that barley likes rap so its good enough for me :v:
Fucking love Hopsin! HEard of him through Tech n9ne. Anyone else listen to Tech?
Every Hopsin-related thing reads the same way "I don't normally listen to rap, but Hopsin is great and not at all like the rest of that shit"' Not necessarily pointing to anyone in particular, but the problem in this statement seems pretty obvious to me and I see it so often

(not saying you're pointing me out) But I have found some of the best rappers are the ones who've signed on with Tech n9ne, and I think Tech is probably the best rapper alive. He's like pushing, what, 60? Yet, he still raps so well and so fast that it's mind blowing and alot of his songs are life songs if you may. But I got to say Snow tha product is one hot bit. Like, I straight up would tear into that if I could. She a fine ass female rapper.
Ill Mind 5 was good because it was so direct and called people out on bullshit.
I just don't understand how you can get mad at hopsin for "call[ing] out other rappers for the most petty shit for no reason", but you're totally okay with him calling people on their "bullshit" and saying all the things they're doing wrong in his personal opinion that isn't fact. So it's okay when it doesn't apply to rappers? That's such a pointless semantic imo.
Its true for me though. They only rap i like is 2pac and Eminem. I know it sounds generic to say that but its true in my case.
drake is twenty times more talented than hopsin at least he can fucking sing instead of having that cringy hook "MY HOMIE PLEASE COME HOME!" seriously hopsin has talent but he ruins it with his indescribably awful production and his terribly preachy and annoying message. he's trying to make a dramatic storytelling song and it just comes off as a middle school PSA.
hopsin is overrated but comparing him to drake?

Hopsin is pretty good when he isn't relying on dissing other rappers to get buzz.

[editline]18th July 2013[/editline]
hopsin is overrated but comparing him to drake?
hopsin's talented but his production and his image drag him down. drake's talented and his production and image just boost him up. if you listen to nothing but Started From the Bottom, HYFR, and The Motto, of course you'll think Drake's overrated. Put on some Marvin's Room or listen to Take Care straight through and you'll have a different opinion. Drake's rated pretty fairly. Hopsin's paraded by fans as #realhiphop, and he promotes that image in his songs, which instantly ruins the image I have of most rappers.

That was sick!
Also, it's funny that people criticize mainstream rap and say Hopsin's actually being real about his rap and putting out emotional songs. Damien Ritter owns the label Hopsin founded, Funk Volume. He's refocused Hopsin from the old horrorcore stuff to the anti-mainstream stuff that appeals to non-rap listeners. It's a business tactic. No different than Snoop Dogg having an overall theme of lots of weed, or Lupe turning into a politically-charged pseudo-conscious rapper.
