The only reason you felt it was more fun was because you probably, like most people, played the game to death so when RE5 came around you were like "Bah! It's just more of the same!".
As to the characters I didn't see a problem with them, although Chris looked like was on steroids meant for horses.

That looks really low budget, yet according to Wikipedia it has a higher budget than Extinction. 3D technology using up most of the money? I wouldn't be surprised.

Yup, the only thing RE4 had over 5 was the protagonist not being a complete muscle mountain and not having Sheva bothering you all the time. So it had better protagonists but then it fell really short when it came to villains (Napoleonic zombie dwarf anyone?).

Also watch some of the RE5 cinematics, I love how the cutscenes in game are better than this movie. Had they made a movie like Capcom did with the RE5 cutscenes it would have been awesome.

Aw, I really liked the executioner guy too. My friend and I were pretty much going to see the movie for him and all the other RE5 characters they're randomly throwing in (Hell the movie series turned to shit after the first one). But if the action is [I]this[/I] lame, then I think I'll forget about seeing it.

Oh and every resident evil had to deal with a plague, RE4 and RE5 had to deal with an outbreak of parasites though, RE1 and all the other ones had to deal with an outbreak of a virus.
