Luckily its not the xcom type of game. Because that would suck and its 2014
Your name is incredibly appropriate.
i wish there was a game where you could play as a guardsmen that isn't dawn of war or firewarriors multiplayer.
Your name is incredibly appropriate.
Maybe its just me, but I don't enjoy those types. I want to see more Spacemarines style kind of games rather than the xcom type. I want to feel like a spacemarine, but the xcoms style gameplay doesn't give me that vibe.
It's an FPS.
Thank fuck. I was watching the trailer thinking "Man this looks cool but fucking hell if it plays like Kill Team."

[editline]27th June 2014[/editline] like a squad shooter where you're a kasrkin or something
i'd love an x-comm styled game where you get to control a squad of stormtroopers (hell i'd settle for spessmahreens except they dont need cover) [editline]28th June 2014[/editline] dammit im late
It looks kinda cool, but you would think they would've put splashes on the falling shells, since it zooms on them.
Yeah no. Those shells are being driven by particle physics - they're exactly as they would be ingame (sans the super detailed close-up one of course).
I just want a game where I can be part of the Death Korps for the grimdarkest of the grimdark.
also sorry to break it to you but Kasrkins along with other "stormtroopers" don't exist anymore. they're all Tempestus Scions now, these guys
I refuse to believe any of these terrible GW retcons
For people more versed in 40k history than me, I'd heard a while ago that genestealers actually used to be their own race of aliens (apparently they still were around the time of the first two space hulk fps games) but then they were retconned to be part of the tyranid army. Is that true? The most I can see about it looking it up now is that they were simply unknown to be part of the tyranids.
yeah the part about them being an unrecognized Tyranid subspecies is an in-universe explanation for the old fluff. they were originally said to be monsters from a planetoid/moon called Ymgarl and had more lamprey or leech-like heads; the old Genestealer design was reintroduced as the Ymgarl Genestealer, a special strain with a lictor-like head full of cthulhu tentacles and shit. their special shtick is that, since their shapeshifting abilities pose a threat to the controlled genetic purity of the other Tyranid strains, the Hive Mind has disowned them from the species as a whole. they still try to establish contact with synapse creatures, and this instinct drives them to infiltrate and infest any ships that land on the same planet they happen to be roaming on
I refuse to believe any of these terrible GW retcons
since it's official, we won't see Kasrkin in any new games unless they re-retcon it. deal with it
This game actually looks quite good, which is a bit of a surprise considering the quality of many of the recent W40K games.
stormtroopers would work since regular guardsmen are too deep in the "Cannon fodder" category to do anything meaningful a Militarum Tempestus game in the style of Republic Commando would be boss also sorry to break it to you but Kasrkins along with other "stormtroopers" don't exist anymore. they're all Tempestus Scions now, these guys
In what way is this a retcon? Tempestus scions are what Munitorium Stormtroopers were. They've just been renamed, got a new look and some more background information. There still serve the exact same purpose. Stormtroopers and Kasrkin, which were just the Cadian specific version of Stormtroopers, still exist.
since when does something in the game exist after it gets erased from the rulebooks rules are the only thing that justify a unit's existence in the game. why get rid of the rules and keep the model around? it's a guitar without strings and just what is the difference between a "Stormtrooper" and a "Munitorium Stormtrooper"?

However, the term Stormtrooper was also used for regiment-specific elite troops that did the same tasks, such as Kasrkin. Kasrkin never had specific rules, and neither did any other regiment-specific version of Stormtroopers (unless you count Krieg grenadiers, i think those had rules). They didn't get rid of the rules for Stormtroopers, they renamed them to Tempestus Scions. They have the same purpose and their background and equipment is almost identical. The specific stormtrooper models are gone though.
Defintely one on my watch list.

There was a originally a "genestealers cult" army for tabletop, it was made of half-turn hybrids genestealers(both human and otherwise),genestealers and infected humans. Overtime between 3th and 4th Editions, they disappeared from the table but are still part of the background lore. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Genestealer_Cult#.U69b4LGPi2c
This sounds awesome (I'll wait for gameplay before I say it looks awesome) but what I really want is a Dark Heresy game. There is so much cool shit in the 40k universe aside from SPICE MERINGUES.
and it's on UE4 hypes levels are reaching over 100%

They are the elite of the Cadian Shock Troops, and are recruited from the ranks of (surviving) white shields. They are still around, just like hellguns are still in the fluff.
