To August 2014 apparently.
we're near 3 years to the date even
To August 2014 apparently.
Man things are great now that its 2014 again
You know, i can, in some twisted, stupid fucking way, understand why Gamergate went the way it did because of why and how it originally occurred. But are we really starting to do that again? Here? Where its plain as day how obvious one party is in the wrong? Where an actual attorney is involved saying she's in the wrong and its already going to court with the guaranteed end scenario of her being on the losing end? Why.
Man things are great now that its 2014 again
At least we'll get President Obama and David Bowie back. Right?

However that may be a clue: just a few weeks ago a bunch of nobodies had a hissy fit over a youtube video criticizing them and the kind of sites they work for. Now youtubers are being threatened en masse while they've been left alone. Perhaps it's just a "fuck you" to their competition on youtube.

I'm against death threats and actual harassment as much as any other human with the slightest bit of empathy. But this person is threatening innocent people's livelyhood! No matter how much she's been (allegedly) wronged (imo due to ignorance, but even so). That doesn't justify actually being a threat to someone's life!
the difference is gamergate was essentially a subjective matter that spiralled into a shitload of different things this is just a person breaking the law and playing the trans card, anyone who defends mauer is most likely doing it for good boy points or just to stir shit
Not really, GG started as people looking into Zoe Quinn's history and realizing that there was collusion in the "games journalism industry," and it spiraled out of control from there. It was originally just "Five Guys." What really created GG more than anything was the Us Vs Them mentality, where games journalists rallied under 'gamers are dead,' thus making a lot of people feel defensive and forced to band together under a banner, and GG was that. The only way this turns into something similar is if publications start grouping together again against anyone who opposes Mauer, but I somehow doubt they'll make the same mistake twice. [editline]17th July 2017[/editline] GG started to lose it's relevance when right wingers used it as an opportunity to turn it into a political battle rather than what it was originally about. They used the hatred pointed at the journalists and said 'really, they're just liberals, liberals are the ones you hate.' You see the rise of a lot of these dumb 'skeptic' channels feeding off the drama of this event, subtly pushing their rhetoric to people who feel attacked and willing to grasp at any straw that lets them hate the people they feel are their enemies. Of course, these people lost any and all subtly thanks to Trump, and now we see it flagrantly in the open how dumb they all are. But that's going a little too off-topic, but this is one of the reasons why we see a lot of quick transphobic and political nonsense in response to events like this since then.

Why.
Because game journalist are some of the dumbest, most pretentious, and most tribal people on the planet. Any criticism of their "craft" is immediately met with admonishment and hostility. Even if it is constructive or meant as a kindness. As demonstrated with this Ars article, as soon as they saw that one of their fellow journalist was coming to the valiant defense of a transwoman they had to jump on that band wagon for brownie points. Even when said transwoman is completely and totally in the wrong in every conceivable fashion.
Look at what happened with Dunkey's video for instance. They lost their shit collective and in doing so proved his points about them being bad.
Look at what happened with Dunkey's video for instance.
Looks like they are using River City Ransom as a jumping off point as well. Did someone revive gamejournopros?
GJP never disbanded, GJP still exists, GJP is populated by the same people it was minus Leigh Alexander.
Another article has popped up:
The charming beat 'em up River City Ransom: Underground has been removed from Steam because of an ongoing legal dispute regarding the music. It's the composer Alex Mauer who claims her music is in the game without the developers having secured the rights, something she has done against another game she was involved with (Starr Mazer) and YouTube videos as well. On the Steam forums, the developers have left a statement regarding this saying: "Alex Mauer produced, in collaboration with others, works for RCRU as a subcontractor, and Conatus believes that it possesses the legal right to use those collaborative works in the game." Mauer herself says in a comment to Destructoid that "Conatus never got my written permission to use my music in the game. As far as I know, they have Disasterpeace's [one of the game's composers] signature and are trying to act like that alone is enough to have secured rights." We'll see who wins this case in the end, but a reasonable guess is that the game will be back on Steam sooner rather than later. Are you sad to see it go?
Source
Oh fuck, please tell me RCRU is seriously not going to suffer from being accused of stealing music from this idiot
Oh fuck, please tell me RCRU is seriously not going to suffer from being accused of stealing music from this idiot
It is really disappointing they are being painted as a villain here.
Not much to see with this article, who cares about the fine details and evidence?? :vs: - There's is got to be at least barely a paragraph here at best. I know that trying to stand up against a suicidal such as Alex can be seen as stepping on some toes for some. However me like many others don't see any shame in calling out someone who's clearly wrong, but I guess that would be "too offensive" now would it?
What upsets me the most is that these articles are siding with Alex almost ENTIRELY because of the LGBT card. Way to fucking go, show the world that being Transgender is just an excuse card to get brownie points with the games industry and not a serious fucking thing you cunts. You sure aren't damaging the already fragile reputation of LGBT individuals in gaming.
RCR:Underground is commissioning a whole new soundtrack despite having full ownership, because they'd rather push ahead on development than deal with Mauer. http://steamcommunity.com/app/422810/discussions/0/2217311444344457035/

They're making their own oppressors out of the average people they harass.

After all, you can't call others out on their hypocritical bullshit if you practice same kind of hypocrisy yourself.
