I know nothing about Lisa other than its basic premise, so I have no context to those pictures, but I think those pictures alone make me think Lisa would be more up my alley than Undertale was. I played up to the[sp]Papyrus fight[/sp]and, I dunno, the game just didn't do anything for me. It felt a little too quirky for my taste. Not that's a bad thing though. I'm just not the audience for that game.
I've played both and liked both, probably preferred Lisa though (I'm probably underselling it a bit here, but it's pretty great). Definitely give it a shot, it was a lot of fun and as dark as it is funny at times. While I think a fandom equal to Undertale's would be excessive (it would be for any game, including Undertale), I think it definitely deserves some more recognition than it gets.
I haven't played undertale and don't plan to because it just doesn't interest me as a game, I'm pretty "casual" in my choice of games save for RTS. I like games where somebody shoots something! Throwbacks to JRPG's of yesteryear just aren't my kinda thing.
rusty100 is unfunny trash with a boring gimmicky avatar that gets old after seeing it the first 3 times if ur a facepunch moderator who can't spell correctly and u think ur less awful than a undertale fan or something you are deluded. every single one of ur posts are probably just as intelligible and just as much of a shit-tier train wreck in trying to influence the opinions of others while still feeling more entitled just because you gave garry a handjob once. every single brain cell in you. in denial
undertale is a good game, you should play it at least once in your lifetime.
no he's serious i dont think he even made it out of the ruins. the game doesnt get good until the fight with papyrus
the game doesnt get good period [editline]7th February 2016[/editline] i wanna cum on the undertale people! wow, floewr!
I went into Undertale a few months ago knowing nothing about "that obnoxious fanbase" and loved every minute of it. Didn't really know about "that fanbase" when one of the artists I followed on tumblr began rabidly posting "ship pics" of asgore and sans making out. To elaborate: a giant goat man and a chubby skeleton making out. Fuckkkkkkk offfffff with that Course the game's not for everyone, I get it. Folks ask me what they thought of the 2012 Dredd film and when I go "it did nothing for me" they literally shit out their kidneys in surprise.
I've said it before, but if you've played the game and didn't like it that's perfectly fine. I like the game but even I realize it's far from perfect and not for everybody. If you're not into the style of game it is and don't play it because of that, that's fine. If the characters didn't click with you, that's fine. If the humor's not your thing. That's fine. If you think the game is bad and your only reason is "THE FANS SUK" then you're an idiot. A shit fanbase does not retroactively make something bad.
undertale is a pretty good game if you ask me!!
I've said it before, but if you've played the game and didn't like it that's perfectly fine. I like the game but even I realize it's far from perfect and not for everybody.
this game fucking sucks, it's basically jokes rehashed from Tumblr
I know you're joking, but I will never get this logic. Clever and punny humor existed waaaaaay before Tumblr.
while ive spent my time with the game, saying that the fanbase has no baring on someone's opinion of the game is absurd.
He's not saying it doesn't, he's saying it really shouldn't and you shouldn't let the internet impress itself on you to the degree that you dislike something with no experience of it. Because then you'll just psyche yourself out of enjoying something you may have otherwise liked. This applies to... pretty much anything popular. I remember when Five Nights at Freddy's first came out and people were like "oh this is a new, interesting idea that's actually pretty scary" but once Markiplier and such played it and it had a presence on Tumblr then people were like "pft what a shit meme game." I don't understand the reasoning at all. Like why not just play the game yourself and disregard what you've heard? It really seems like 90% of the time it's people refusing to enjoy something out of arbitrary spite for people they disagree with.
while ive spent my time with the game, saying that the fanbase has no baring on someone's opinion of the game is absurd.
If the fanbase gives you a lesser opinion on the game, whatever. I think that's still ridiculous because you're not basing your opinion of the game by looking at the game itself, but at the very least it's sorta understandable. It's people who say the game is literally bad, as in poorly made and poorly written, and have no argument as to why beyond "THE FANBASE!!!" or "TUMBLR MEME GAME" who are idiots. It makes no god damn sense. The shitty portion of the fans don't actively make the game worse. It doesn't work like that.
Not to mention I rarely ever see the shitty obnoxious fanbases of these games unless I'm seeing someone post about it on Facepunch.
Can't we all just get along?
Can't we all just get along?
NO.
Not to mention I rarely ever see the shitty obnoxious fanbases of these games unless I'm seeing someone post about it on Facepunch.
The "discussion" of Undertale on this forum outside of the Undertale thread is: 1/10th "Hey guys Undertale" 9/10th "WOW PEOPLE DON'T SHUT UP ABOUT UNDERTALE"
Yeah, I don't really understand the inclusion of those dog emoticons here either. Avatars, fine. The megathread? That's fine, too.
The "discussion" of Undertale on this forum outside of the Undertale thread is: 1/10th "Hey guys Undertale" 9/10th "WOW PEOPLE DON'T SHUT UP ABOUT UNDERTALE"
No the discussion comes down to about 20% 'lmao doggo :dogcited:' 30% is people bitching and 50% is genuine discussion. [editline]7th February 2016[/editline] Like seriously, 3 different dog emotes? I didn't realize that 'lol so random' was appreciated here.
Honestly whether you're going to hate it or not, Undertale is worth trying. There isn't a good reason to pass it off unless you know for sure you won't like its humor and the bullet hell aspect. Other than that you're basically passing off the game because it's too popular or too mainstream, which is a bad thing to do.
Please stop I enjoyed Undertale to some extent but the fanbase can be grating sometimes
Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with that. I love the game, but I still think "those parts" of the fanbase are awful. I just don't see it being as widespread as people make it out to be on these forums specifically. As Party Hats said, it mostly boils down to the dog emote. Which I can see being annoying. But people still act like it's forced into every thread all the time. I genuinely see more people complaining about the bad fanbase than I do the bad fanbase. The fans were bad for the first month the game came out, but the hyping up died out. The people complaining about it never did.
I have to wonder if other mediums outside of video games have to deal with "cancerous" fanbases like people claim to with Undertale. Like, are the fans of One Punch Man equivalent to the fans of Undertale when it comes to anime? Just an example, no ill will towards those who like OPM.

Pretty much the larger the following of a piece of media, the more cancerous it gets. Some fanbases can get away from being called cancerous somehow though, namely Metal Gear meme posting.

Like, are the fans of One Punch Man equivalent to the fans of Undertale when it comes to anime? And that's saying something.
Just always keep in mind that the minority is always the loudest. That's why things seem to get more cancerous. Not everyone in a certain fanbase acts the same way. That'd be ignorant to think so. It's just that people who meme the most are the most annoying. Honestly though I think people here do a good job on making Undertale not as cancerous. A lot of them don't even dare to post anything about it outside of the main thread.
I like undertale as the next guy but I'm probably never gonna play it because its not like cave story or fez. Its not fast paced at all its very linear and it was clearly made for the tumblr and homestuck fans. Once you've seen someone like Joel play through it, there ya go.
the game doesnt get good period [editline]7th February 2016[/editline] i wanna cum on the undertale people! wow, floewr!
This is the edgiest thing I've read all day.
I have to wonder if other mediums outside of video games have to deal with "cancerous" fanbases like people claim to with Undertale.
Star Wars fandom, Star Trek fandom, Gundam fandom, Transformers fandom. Among other things. Oh and Anime fans in general can be pretty fucking awful when you (don't) like something that everybody else (dis)likes.
