Think the only annoying thing I've seen from the Undertale fans is Angry Joe's favorite games of 2015 and some people were upset that it wasn't an echo chamber for their favorite game.

in all actuality, that's less about certain fanbases and more just how the culture goes. Honestly that's my favorite part about being decently into anime now, I can banter with other anime fans about waifus and shit and not have people get too upset
I liked undertale because it did creative things with its format. Knowing if you're restarting or replaying the same area, changing its windowed title and start up. Things you havent seen other games doing.

That's all been done by plenty of games before though
I feel like what makes a fanbase annoying is the repetition of the memes/jokes.
If you spam the same joke it gets stale real fast.
I visit /vg/ and while there is an undertale general, you see some of it in the other video game generals.
People don't mind because they probably played it themselves and enjoy the occasional reference.
You know, the only reason I'd have to believe that Undertale has a "terrible fanbase" is because a bunch of people on FP keep saying it does.
I have yet to see this so called "terrible fanbase" myself.
The part of the fandom that I find annoying are the ones who have this incessant need to correct anyone who has any sort of negative opinion about the game. And yes, I even see these fans here. Personally, I like the game, but if someone else don't want to like the game or something about it, let 'em not like.

I guess you were supposed to sympathize with Alphys being a self-loathing shut-in with social issues but I really didn't like her very much either after the 10th social media gag.
I feel like people are exaggerating what exactly constitutes the "obnoxious" fanbase. The title got so much exposure in so little time that some individuals have grown to consider anything, down to the slightest reference, as some form of throat-shoving shoehorning from the whole fanbase.
In reality, the obnoxious part of the fanbase are people who will not stop recommending undertale, including to people who would clearly not like it, oblivious to the fact that the more is told and shown about the game in an attempt to convince people, the less efficient the game will be at what it does.
If "it's a funny adventure game where you can solve every situation peacefully" doesn't convince whoever you're trying to convince, stop right there and don't mention the game any more.
I've played it and got past the first dungeon and stopped when I arrived at a little town.
It has some fun elements, like the whole "making fun of the player" aspect, but that's just about it. It's awfully unfunny most of the time, and my balls were aching during the dialogues, especially those with the two hideously and painfully unfunny skeletons that kept interrupting the flow of the game and had these incredibly long and tiring dialogue sessions. Put me off completely.

If you can't stand Papyrus and Sans you aren't gonna really care for the game at all since the game uses that humor. I personally love that style of humor, but hey that's just me.

It's closer to homestuck/frozen than MLP, to be honest.

Because the posts on the [url=https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1501633]Angry Joe thread[/url] consisted of (I assume) Laserbeams joking and HOUSE MASTER doing his recurring "got to shit on these undertale nerdes" act. Something he got both a permanent unremovable avatar and a title over.
Otherwise you might be talking about communities outside facepunch, those which I didn't venture to. My experiences with homestuck fans taught me better than that.

Sorry if I came off as snobbish with that post...
I guess what I was getting at was that I don't really see the point in "debating" what you like / don't like. For example, I personally really like Undertale. I like the characters, I like the story, I like the setting, I like the combat system, I like the music, etc etc. There's really nothing to debate about imo. And I'm not going to ask anyone else to justify why they don't like Undertale other than simply saying "I don't like the combat system" or whatever.
Anyways I'll just get out of here and let ya'll do what ya do.

Homestuck/Undertale is basically the same community. Made by a guy who had his music in homestuck, when homestuck would not update everyone moved to undertale and the community became terrible.
The worst thing about Undertale is that when I ever post my opinion on it (i.e. it's just okay) I get ripped to shreds by angry nerds who claim I "dont get it"
I do get it. It's an okay game. The music is pretty good. It's nothing special.
