I don't really see the issue with the emotes
The worst thing about Undertale is that when I ever post my opinion on it (i.e. it's just okay) I get ripped to shreds by angry nerds who claim I "dont get it" I do get it. It's an okay game. The music is pretty good. It's nothing special.
I think my biggest complaint is that a lot of people seem to have forgotten CRPGs from the 90s were a thing? One of the things I've heard very often from Undertale fans is that its the only game that allows you to do a no-kill run.
I don't really see the issue with the emotes
Imo before them the only game-related emotes were these: :clown::doubt: (and I guess Iwata and the two VR emotes, to a lesser extent) Those were fine because they were unique but the Undertale ones are just "dog and 3 rehashes of other emotes but in Undertale dog flavor™" Also what ever happened to that MGS3 salute emote, I liked that one
I'm indifferent about Undertale but honestly it doesn't deserve 4 emotes
I liked the game and I honestly don't think it needed any emotes. It had a self-contained story that didn't need generated hype by others.

Honestly I really do feel like the majority of Undertale hatred comes from a place of "This thing is popular, therefore I hate it" and everything from then on is just trying to justify that. (which is not to say if you don't like the game your dislike is automatically invalid or you have no good reasons or whatever) The thing is hating something because it has a shit fanbase is kind of redundant, because everything ever made ever has a shitty fanbase, there are no good fanbases, only less flagrant ones at least Undertale fans to date haven't thrown fucking buckets at people's heads and bullied someone in to attempting suicide like Homestuck and SU fans Fans are an uncontrollable, unorganized, and unplanned response to any piece of anything you make. If you can't ignore them, then you'll be missing out on tons of great shit. I say, give Undertale a shot, whether you like it or dislike it, it's one unique ass experience. But don't expect the game to be good, or bad, or living up to the hype, or whatever. Just go in to it knowing as little as possible, with as few expectations as possible, put the shit fanbase to the side and just make it you and a video game, a game that could be good or bad but you won't know until you push the start button.
nah man undertale is obviously sjw tumblr pandering meme game :^))) But no seriously the game is alright. If you let people a group of uncontrollable idiots change or manipulate your view about something that you like or haven't even tried, than you're a very insecure person.
You mean the Witcher 3 v.s Fallout 4 fight then? Because the posts on the Angry Joe thread consisted of (I assume) Laserbeams joking and HOUSE MASTER doing his recurring "got to shit on these undertale nerdes" act. Something he got both a permanent unremovable avatar and a title over. Otherwise you might be talking about communities outside facepunch, those which I didn't venture to. My experiences with homestuck fans taught me better than that.
That's probably what it was then, all I remember was Undertale being mentioned and then some shit show about preference. In that case I have no idea where these annoying fans are, at all.
Though I wouldn't replay it, Undertale is a good game IMO and regardless of your opinion of the fanbase, I wouldn't blame people for thinking the game is unfunny or bad, it's pretty quirky stuff
I'm in this skype group and like everyone in it has beaten the hell out of Undertale except me. It's not that I hate it or anything, I just really don't care about it and don't want to spend money on a game I know I'll play once and go "yeah that was okay whatever" But this video really sums out how I feel whenever they all start going on about undertale.
If you're gonna go into a game with nothing but negative thoughts of the fanbase in your head, you're gonna have a bad temm.
Actually when I first played the demo version of the game I knew how bad the fanbase could be but still wanted to give the game a shot. The demo didn't do much for me (although Toriel is cute as fuck) and I decided the game wasn't really my thing based on the demo and not the fanbase. I think people can still enjoy a game with knowing how bad a fanbase can be if the game appeals to them enough.
It looks and plays as "Subpar: The Game!" What keeps it alive is semi-memorable characters that you find out to be cookie cutter, repetitive and samey, and the attempt at being "~DARK and DEEP~" if you choose to [sp]kill[/sp] characters falls face first due to the uninteresting art style and bland gameplay.
undertale is unfunny trash with a boring gameplay gimmick that gets old after the first 3 times if ur an undertale fan and u think ur less awful than a homestuck fan or something you are deluded. every single one of u post about it all the time and try to get others to play it and set it as your avatar. every single one of you. in denial
Nigga you like the Souls games, which puts you in last fkn place in the good taste rankings. Talkin bout Homeshit fans like you Soul nerds ain't the most insufferable with your "p-plz g-give us Bloodborne on P-P-PC petitions" and your constant streams of "GIT GUD DIS GAME 2 HARD 4 U XD brb watchin poopoopie". Oh yeah the game so fucking difficult, DSP of all people beat them. They ain't that hard, son. Prob one of those kiddos that talk shit about CoD and Madden yearly releases, then get hype for the 4th release of the same game in 5 years. "But you don't understand, this time I can wear +4 str enchanted dragon stripe panties." It's still the same game in a fresh coat of paint. Even CoD makes you half robot now. Just remember when you ban me, that you're confirming everything I just said above is tru and that you're upset about it. Get mad, get pissed, get angry, but (most importantly) get fucked. [sp]No, I don't actually believe any of the above... for the most part. I'm not even that big a fan of Undertale. This is what you and others sound like when you fling unsolicited shitposts at people for liking things that you don't like.[/sp]
Undertale fanbase is still less annoying than the people I know who play Warframe who won't shut the fuck up about the mods they got/the frame they grinded for/whatever.
That's all been done by plenty of games before though
Like what? I've not seen stuff like that before unless its like eternal darkness's sanity effects.
I think the main reason I love Undertale so much is that it reminds me of Earthbound a lot, down to how memorable the characters are.
I thought Undertale was good. Really, though, this is the first time that I've liked something and felt kind of burnt out on it because of the fanbase. And I don't mean to say the fanbase is particularly bad or whatever, since all of them kind of are and this is just par for the course for something with this much buzz around it. It's just a pretty decent 10-14 hour single-player game. That's it. It's not like things like Star Wars or FNAF or Homestuck or Steven Universe or Pokémon where there's always new stuff coming out to generate hype and there's often new things to talk about. And then Pokémon or other games primarily built around multi-player are naturally going to get a strong community surrounding it, but Undertale doesn't have that. I guess I just don't get how so many people can talk about this one tiny thing for so long, you know? Standalone things or dead franchises always have their fans, of course, but never to this extent. Unless I'm forgetting anything. Am I just missing something about this whole thing? But yeah, I think due to the lack of anything new coming out or a way to really connect with other players, combined with the fact that I just thought it was "pretty good" I really just started to feel kind of fatigued by the whole thing. I'm kind of over it. I don't suddenly dislike it now or anything, but it's to the point where I'll see content related to it and I guess I'll just, uh, sigh. But more like an internal kind of sigh, not literally or anything like that. Maybe there's just something I don't really understand about how this whole fandom thing works. And I try not to be really bothered by people enjoying things or whatever. I mean, I've never played a Metal Gear game before in my entire life, and sometimes in my head I'm like, "GOD, would you all just PLEASE shut the fuck up about Metal Gear?!" But truthfully I wouldn't want to tell people to enjoy something less or anything like that. And I have to admit that, while I was never interested in the first place, there is something about me feeling kind of annoyed by all the MGS content that undeniably makes me want to play it even less. I know it's ridiculous, really, but things like that just have an effect on people. I think if there was any part of me that was actually interested I might just try to get over it, though. I played Undertale pretty much right as it began to explode, and I was just kinda "Hey, what's this weird little RPG I've been seeing again and again for the past day or so? I've got some spare cash so I think I'll check it out." But I wonder if I would have ever actually played it if had I dragged my feet on that and wound up sitting through months and months of chatter about it.
Uh, I like the little dog. I also like to make cute edits of the dog from time to time. :dog:
Regardless of the media and regardless of the fanbase, these arguments never change. Why waste your time with them? Play the game or don't. Enjoy the game or don't. Involve yourself with the fandom or don't. Just keep it simple. Never let someone else keep you from enjoying a game.
Just keep it simple. There are no good games, bad games. It's only what you make it.
????????????????????????????????????????????

A lot of people agree it sucks on a technical level but have a laugh at just how god-awful it is.

Never let someone else keep you from enjoying a game.
i want to believe its this simple but its really not one could argue that the experience of a game is also dictated by how much exposure you receive about it. i played undertale in the first week of release before any fanbase really picked up, and i thought it was pretty good. however, even as a fan of the game, the amount of fandickery i experienced started to bring down my experience even though i had already finished the game. it's very difficult to isolate yourself from the irritation of seeing people cram a genre into other people's faces, especially when you're the one being loaded on.
Honestly I've found the people who constantly post about how Undertale is an "edgy tumblr meme game" to be more obnoxious than the actual fans. They always seem to pop up on streams of the game, or threads actually devoted to the game just to say how much they hate it, or how fans of the game are all cancerous meme trash. If you didn't enjoy the game, thats great - just move on and accept that there are people who do. All fandoms can get obnoxious at times, but to say that every single fan is terrible is very narrow-minded.

For instance, the thread here on Facepunch has been (in my opinion at least) been very civil and a place of healthy discussion. It's smaller of course, but it's also more organized and friendly. Now compare that to the countless tumblr blogs or youtube shitfights you may see elsewhere on the internet. It's essentially getting your impression of a city by visiting only the worst neighborhoods. You can still have a good time in town, but you just need to avoid those areas.

I picked it up the weekend it was released, thought it was really fun, and while I can still enjoy the game itself as much as I did the week of launch, I basically avoid the fanbase outside of Facepunch threads. If I hadn't been looking forward to the game since January 2015 I probably would of been hesitant to pick it up. What doesn't help is that it's really a game that's best when you go in knowing next to nothing, which is going to be hard with a very vocal part of the fanbase making memes out of shit like the endings.
The Undertale hatedom thinks youtube and tumblr shitposts make up the entirety of the fanbase, pretty funny tbh.

How many other games let you pilot a truck so unbelievably powerful it can phase through solid objects, climb any terrain no matter how steep, break out of space-time, and drive at the speed of light IN REVERSE. [editline]fsad[/editline]
it's ok you just have to be 15 to enjoy the game. it's not for everyone ok!!
Imagine being so mad about a good game half of your posts since December were attacking the game. You're the hatebase equivalent of someone who buys a Mettaton Dakimakura to sleep with.
a friend of mine is a hilarious example of the hate the game has been getting he liked a couple of tracks from the OST i gave him he was interested in some parts of story i told him (when i realized he doesn't give a shit about spoilers) he asked me to explain some of the characters he sees often but when i said "how about you just play it for yourself" he went all "ew never le meme game tumblr trash" just :why:
I remember how one of my "friends" showed his hate of Undertale to me. I was doing nothing at the time and then he just randomly chats with me on Steam saying that "oh undertale is trash it's autistic and it fucking sucks" because i have an Undertale-related profile. He made himself look like a complete dipshit :pudge:

Especially because they usually act the same stupid way about something they like, like how in general Facepunch started hating FNAF and Undertale (well, as soon as we got word that other people liked it) but we all adore the resident, I guess 'Facepunch Meme Anime' (whatever the fuck a meme game or anime is supposed to be) One Punch Man It's one of the more irritating parts about Facepunch culture, whining about people liking things you're not willing to give a shot because people like it and like everything else in existence there was porn drawn of it at some point like, people are going to like stuff en masse, grow up and deal with it, don't be a fucking baby
