Have You Played Undertale? - General

How much are you willing to bet at least half of the Undertale hatedom exists because they got butthurt at the bad ending's consequences and felt attacked because they couldn't play the game like they do with gta and the sims and actually got their sociopathic pov challenged? Probably accentuated by the fact lots of people praise the game for it? Also, I can't believe people can get that pissy over skeletons making bad jokes. I swear pretty much all people that hate puns or memes only laugh at offensive "jokes" and are 4channers or gamergate trash on denial pissed at the fact you can do humour without actively hurting people. Or maybe it's that "it's only funny if it belongs to us" bullshit again? Not long ago people creamed their pants over spooky scary skeletons, doge, vaporwave or the spaguetti pants copypasta, but now that a game that hits big does it "it was never funny to begin with"? Come on, cut the crap. If you base your liking of something based on its popularity you're basically a huge tool. If you told me the game (specially the no mercy route's message) was specifically made to piss off these people I think it succeeded astoundingly.

Many paint the game as this "hilarious" experience, except people going into the game misinterpret that as if the bad puns the game throws out really early are somehow the "hilarious humor." Except they aren't the humor at all, unless you really like that stuff. When Sans throws a bad skeleton pun, it's not supposed to be that the pun is hilarious, it's supposed to build his character. The humor the game does have isn't for everyone, and unfortunately without enjoying the humor enough, it's unlikely a player will stay as engaged. It's merely subjective. Honestly, when going through my first run of the game, I didn't find the game hilarious or especially funny, except for a few key gags, but what I did find was engaging and believable characters with a unique take on turn based combat. By the end, the game surprised me, and subsequent runs for the other main endings ended up revealing a lot of interesting details. The game may not seem to be able to take itself seriously through the first main playthrough, up until the end, but this is by design. I feel the worst thing anyone can do to ruin the experience is to attempt to compare the game to what people say about it online. It doesn't matter how funny a joke is, if you feel forced to play the game to "prove" something about it is objectively bad, then the subjective elements (see: humor.) are easy to label as bad. Being fixated on finding the bad makes anything impossible to objectively label good a prime target. Something about the fact that so many refer to the fanbase tells me that many are going in with a "me vs fanbase" mentality where they are trying to find any criticism they can, especially relating to what the fans like most, like the humor. Nobody "converts" to being like the worst of the fanbase by enjoying something they like. Anyone reading this thread, I highly recommend not going in trying to "prove the fans wrong" that the game is bad, but instead trying to "prove them right," if you absolutely feel the need to take what they say into scrutiny. Nobody is going to force you to admit you are a part of the "cancerous fanbase" if you end up liking it.

Undertale just isn't my kind of game anyways. Aside from that I'm saving as much money I can.

Undertale is a funny gem with exciting gameplay that doesn't get old after the first 300 times if you're an undertale fan and you think you're more better than a homestuck fan or something you are awesome. Every single one of you that post about it all the time, try to get others to play it, and set it as your avatar. every single one of you. are awesome!

"get back", i guess, at the vocal minority that's in every fandom. not that the game itself doesn't have issues, of course, far from it. is it the best game ever? hell no, and even then, that's entirely opinion. anyone's free to say the game is shit, they're not necessarily wrong. i mean, if you think about it, if you don't get into this game's storyline and characters you're probably not going to enjoy it. but to bring what i was saying out of a state of pointless rambling, i just personally think it's really stupid that this happens with everything that gets massively popular with a fanbase and such. i mean, it followed the same cycle every time, though at varying speeds. liking it in general > keeping it to a single thread > discussion of it at all is looked down upon. it happened with MLP, it happened with FNAF (really fucking fast at that), and it's happening with undertale now. it's a really basic case of history repeating itself, and it's really getting old IMO. hell, i've seen people get [I]banned[/I] for posting MLP stuff these days. i wouldn't be surprised if this followed suit, eventually.
