Internet debates in a nutshell. I like it.
Its the typical fans hate the haters and vice versa.
I just hope we don't see the survival/zombie game effect where there are hundreds of games trying to milk the same genre but every one of them being, at best, almost acceptable games. basically, the logic is "Undertale was a success. Obviously if we copy it, we'll be a success to", when in reality, Markiplier, Star wars, Call of Duty, pizza, ecigs, and Louis CK are all succesful because of their own reasons. Just because shoving glass up your ass is popular, doesn't mean you'll get lots of attention by doing it. we're STARTING to see this with souls-likes, just barely.
Survival/zombie games are easy to make because they carry themselves. You make world, enemies and game mechanics and let the players make their own fun of those. Undertale would be almost nothing without its writing and storytelling, things that are basically impossible to clone. I think that's the beauty of Undertale, that while the gameplay is quite simple and it's heavily carried by writing, all elements are intertwined. Even when it's "just combat" or "just walking around" the game still immerses you and teaches about the world and the characters.
tumblr memes
What does this even mean?
Imo before them the only game-related emotes were these: :clown::doubt: (and I guess Iwata and the two VR emotes, to a lesser extent) Those were fine because they were unique but the Undertale ones are just "dog and 3 rehashes of other emotes but in Undertale dog flavor™" Also what ever happened to that MGS3 salute emote, I liked that one
they exist because postal doesnt give a shit what anyone else thinks [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] on my own opinion of this I think people on both extreme ends of the spectrum are idiots you know, kind of like real life arguments. you've got the people going "SQUEEEEEE UNDERTAAAALEEEE [Sets steam profile to an Undertale character and roleplays in public video games and makes art where the main character is actually a trigendered pyrofox blind person]" but there's also the rabid shitposters who will go out of their way to try and make people think this is objectively the worst game ever made [See Rusty and .Lain's posts in this thread for key examples of that] people just need to chill the fuck out and keep it to themselves on both sides
What does this even mean?
I imagine that Undertale is popular on Tumblr and everyone just continuously posts jokes from the games there. Just like how every constantly poster "The cake is a lie!" when Portal came out.
Just like how every constantly poster "The cake is a lie!" when Portal came out.
please dont remind me of that
I was excited when I made this video because when I came back this morning I saw there were like 111 replies and I thought wow they must really like it. I open the thread to find the mods qualityposting and people getting angry over a videogame and its fans. I should have expected this. [sp]Please continue[/sp]
your video became the vehicle we all needed, good job. Also, good thread; it's weird how much particular shit I know about undertale while having never played it.
Hey rusty, im just curios what you think about Judge Dredd? Surely its oneof the best movies, of all time... EDIT: Maybe the secret to enjoying the game Undertale is to buy a puppy costumme [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] like this maybe [img_thumb]http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/redxix/466208/1032/1032_original.jpg[/img_thumb]
Can't we all just get along?
All you can do is FIGHT
It's funny and i like it. I don't care if you don't and that's how you enjoy media in the 21st Century. :v:
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
Because Undertale wasn't milked to hell and back?
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
Because we haven't gotten to that point in the cycle yet. It'll probably happen soon enough, this thread is evidence enough of that.
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
Well it's been out for around 5 months and we haven't gotten Undertale 3 yet. So that probably has a lot to do with it. It's only a single game, versus the franchise that cropped up around FNAF. I don't actually have much against the FNAF games mind you. I actually enjoyed the first for what it was, and I think hating something simply because it's had a lot of sequels and merchandise or because it has an obnoxious fanbase is stupid. But I imagine that's a big part of why much of the public perception is the way it is.
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
Toby (main dev) is based amongst other things and hasn't [yet] tried to milk the game. The game also has an action/adventure/humor aspect to it so there's a lot of liberty for fans to play with. Also good OST and lore. FNAF was milked a bit too much and the game is B-movie tier horror. The lore is deep but there's not much else I can see going for it.
How come Undertale is more accepted around here than, let's say, FNaF?
I'm noticing this weird progression with 'NEXT BIG THINGS' where shitting on it tends to lead to more and more arguments about its quality. Compare what people have to say about Undertale and FNAF to, say, MLP and Homestuck?
undertale and FNAF are games so obv people in this forum relate to it more than mlp or homestuck
If anybody else made posts like this they'd be banned for awful posts, what makes you so special? I hate awful fandoms too but you're going way overboard
What has this thread come to?

This implies there's a way you could get Rusty to let you spare him.
ain't no sparing I will eat you mother fucker
Undertale ruined my marriage.
As far as indie RPG games go, LISA is much better.
I was curious so i looked into it and here are a couple of amusing facts about the people who disagreed: 9 people disagreed, 8 have their Steam profiles linked on Facepunch • 2 out of 7 actually own Lisa (1 profile was private, so I couldn't see), one has played 0.5 hours (not enough to dismiss entirely IMO, though still better than disagreeing and not having played it at all), the other 3.5 hours. Not that it discredits their opinions on the game, but for reference I think it should take at least 10 hours to complete. • 6 out of 8 have an Undertale themed FP Avatar/Steam Avatar/Profile Background I'm not trying to say Lisa is better, or these people are wrong to think Undertale is better, but I do think it's kind of shitty to disagree without having played it yourself. It's both disingenuous and comes off as a bit blindly fanboyish to be honest.
As far as indie RPG games go, LISA is much better.
Played both. Lisa has the better story for sure (although Joyful was a stinker IMO). But gameplay-wise and in general how much effort went into making the game, Undertale has it beat for sure. Music is pretty much equal, both are fantastic.
have you played Indie Meme Game of This Year?
Why yes! I have played the Witness! [sp]Undertale came out last year dummy[/sp]
Lisa was too messed up for me when I first looked at it but I'll definitely play it today.
Fair point and understandable, it can be pretty dark at times. Don't feel obligated to play it if you can't stomach it, but I think it has a story worth staying for, and plenty of dark humour to compliment the dark themes. Also a tip for anyone who might look into playing it, I think it's forgivable to savescum on resting due to RNG bullshit constantly fucking you over (when you rest, there's a chance of several things happening like being robbed, having a squad member abandon you etc.), and without resting it can be quite difficult to regain health.

I find that, if I do it, I end up with a backpack absolutely full of healing items and the perfect party every time, which makes things way too easy. It's not a bad idea on your first run, though.
