Yes, because sweeping generalizations about an entire media format is SO accurate. You could just as easily say "don't read comics" or "don't play video games". You could easily find examples to support that: Jack Chick, shovelware, obsessive video game fans, etc.
My point is, you can't judge an entire genre. You simply can't. You can judge individual shows, but you can't really generalize that to the genre.
Let me put it this way: if all you had to go on was Medal of Honor and Madden, what would you conclude about video games? If your only experience with the fandom was Halo college fratboys?
Ironically, I don't consider myself an anime fan. I've only really watched one, which I'm still trying to figure out (NGE, if anyone cares), but I just cannot stand people who blindly hate something, probably just because it's trendy to hate.

Well, I would care to object on your last statements. It does have parts that can be considered porn, but the fact that "Boku no Pico" does not have a storyline is wrong. It does, and compared to most other anime, it may also be considered bad, but it is quite good compared to your average porn.
