The funniest thing would be if the next COD game after IW coincidentally takes place in, I don't know, WWI?

I kinda hope so. It'd be awesome if BF1 was successful and it kicked off a trend of historic war shooters. I miss historic shooters.

Legit AAA American Civil War shooter when?
I'm not a huge fan of Battlefield, but holy shit this got me hyped. The setting is really interesting; far more engaging than a generic grim future.
im amazed theres not a long winded argument about how dumb the title is
quite frankly i was really expecting it to just be called "battlefield" and not a random single digit at the end
The title isn't dumb. It makes total sense. Throughout the years battlefield has ~~generally~~ been moving forward in time, and forward in numbers. This release goes significantly back in time, hence back in numbers. To add to that, it's in World War 1, and there has never been a "Battlefield" or "Battlefield 1" since they went straight to BF2
The music was terrible but it was in no way dubstep? Are people just calling anything bad dubstep?
Uh, it's the the glitch mob's dubstep remix of the Whites Stripes' 7 Nation Army.
Not sure to feel about this. This is what everyone was asking for, but seriously what do they have left to mine? Battlefield Mesopotamia? Battlefield Aegypt?
It's set in WW1, has biplane combat, neat weapons like chemical weapons, flame throwers, trench maces, has horses, early tanks, destruction at the scale of previous Battlefields if not better, airships.
But you know, nothing about the game.
And trench shovels.
Speaking of music choice in the trailer, I must say the 2142 theme fits rather well
The title choice really annoys me, because usually when a game or a movie is titled just like the first in the franchise, people append a "1" to refer to the original.
But now Dice has thrown everyone a curveball and saying "Battlefield 1" now refers to the new game. Just give your games sensible titles, what's so hard about it.
(Also, why is it "1" and not "I"?)
The first battlefield already has a number attached to it, people don't refer to it as "battlefield 1".
I honestly think calling it Battlefield 1 is a pretty smart move in this situation, seeing as there never was a Battlefield 1 to begin with.
It beats calling it BATTLEFIELD™.
i never said the title was dumb because of the stigma of it being the first game
its just dumb because the number literally signifies nothing
World War One?
Everyone in France is butthurt about the lack of french soldiers in the trailer :v:

Who'd play a white flag waving simulator?

I'm not, though. :v:

Okay, I wish people would stop moaning about how the song is overused. Why the fuck does that matter? This song fits the trailer extremely well imo, the way they synced the horse running with the beats and the screeching sound with the soldier made it pretty damn cool and I completely fail to see how an orchestra of some sort would have been better than this.. at all
Generally speaking I tend to prefer voluntary dissonance over perfectly fitting music because it makes for more memorable trailers.
Putting orchestral/classical music over 19th/20th century stuff is just as cliché and overdone as putting modern music on older material, but the former is forgettable and the latter actually leaves some form of print.
It doesn't mean it works everywhere, but here it does.

Considering that the Western Front was in France, the French produced the most tanks in the War, and that they fought valaintly, I'd be sad to not see any representation.
I'm sure there will be French in the game though.
Not a fan of silly remixes of popular music in triple-A reveal trailers. But usually they have their own tracks in gameplay and launch trailers later on. Hoping they'll go for something more orchestral again.

Levelcap did mention that the game had a Renault-Ft.
are people forgetting they used a Rihanna remix in one of the BF4 trailers
its kind of expected at this point
fucking fiends
Levelcap did mention that the game had a Renault-Ft.
Sweet, one of the coolest tanks ever.
And a couple of Reenactors actually just built their own, but the drive axels snapped :v:
fucking fiends
I might as well post that levelcap video since it has a lot of information in it.
if you guys are seriously pissed about how its using music which is marketable NOW, you are being a bit childish
some of the best media created around WW1 always took inspiration from the current trends because in the end, you use what sounds good and from what I've seen, you guys are just going nuts at it because "it's dubstep, it's overused"
look at a film like gallipoli, one of the best films surrounding events in WW1, listen to how it had music "fitting" of the era alongside music "fitting" the current trends around time of creation
..examples...
Well, that middle music sucks, in 1986 or now. A far better example would be the soundtracks of "The Bounty" or "1492: Conquest of paradise" which were composed by Vangelis. But then again music by Vangelis is timeless.
might be just me who's thinking it, but if i'm not mistaken, 'One' by Metallica was based off of WW1.
they had the opportunity and they did not take it

Yeah, it was based off the book/film Johnny Got His Gun
If the remix didnt sound like chopped up noised farty nation army it wouldnt bother me
Similar to how hilariously bad the space oddity bruuuutal hardcooore mix was in the cod trailer
It's kind of the point that they're using a distorted version of a song about war, in a game that's about seeing war from the inside (ie lots of confusion and loud noises).
It conveyed the brutality of war a lot better than the normal version would have.
