I think you've got anti aliasing mixed up with depth of field, anti aliasing doesn't make anything blurry, it simply adds pixels where the "stair step effect" occurs, if you take a photo and bring it up on your computer, you'll see that no matter how focused objects are, you get a natural anti aliasing effect, as our eyes not cameras see in pixels, look up aliasing or anti aliasing in Wikipedia for more
depth of field is even worse, but i fully understand anti-aliasing. it still is a blur of sorts, just not based on how far an object is(that is DOF) or where an object has moved on screen(moblur) lets say you have two pixels. one is red, the other is black. apply AA and both are now dark red. sure, the edges don't look jagged, but now you don't know exactly where the object starts or ends.
I'm sorry, what?
turning up the resolution makes jagged lines(and all pixels) smaller, and less visible to the eye, instead of just blurring them.
Then don't turn your AA to x16? x2 or x4 should be enough to hide the pixels and still not round things into oblivion.

If you're not, it doesn't do that at all, anti aliasing only gets rigged of jaggies and that's it, it does not blur or make anything unclear, that's ridiculous.
Plus I'd rather use AA instead of buying a new monitor. (edit: i just realized nvidia uploaded those screens, fucking scumbags) and tbh i don't mind the jaggies in that first one.
Why did they release it current-gen?
A giant install base already. Releasing on next gen would be a horrible business decision. They may do it later, but even if sales go well for the next gen, it doesn't touch the number of potential customers on 360 and PS3 [editline]16th September 2013[/editline]
depth of field is even worse, but i fully understand anti-aliasing. it still is a blur of sorts, just not based on how far an object is(that is DOF) or where an object has moved on screen(moblur) lets say you have two pixels. one is red, the other is black. apply AA and both are now dark red. sure, the edges don't look jagged, but now you don't know exactly where the object starts or ends. turning up the resolution makes jagged lines(and all pixels) smaller, and less visible to the eye, instead of just blurring them.
You don't sound like you understand how AA works. [editline]16th September 2013[/editline]
how do you think it removes the jaggies? with a blur.
No, it doesn't. It's sample blending. Conventional antliasing like MSAA or CSAA finds edges and then renders samples of that pixel and then adds that information to the pixel before rendering. It's adding information to the image, not blurring it.
i believe you also turned up texture detail or possibly anisotropic filtering for the "enabled" screen, now why would you do that?.
It's an oddity with the game itself. AA is the first thing I disable when I need more performance, but it certainly doesn't make things look blurry...

But whatever, you seem to not care for it or hate it either way..

Easiest way to see how anti aliasing works, open Photoshop and select the line tool, turn off anti aliasing and draw a diagonal line, then turn on anti aliasing and draw another line, then zoom in
:v:
I feel like i'm the only person here who understands what AA is. Thread about GTA V, is now a thread about anti-aliasing, you have done it again Facepunch.
blur makes the edge of an object undefinable aa keeps the edges of an object ????? Edit: on topic, I watched a stream of someone playing on the ps3, it had the objects popping out and not yet loaded textures. I thought you are required to install games on the ps3?
I never use anti aliasing since I barely notice the jags on 1080p anyway.
is there no anti aliasing ? i'll wait for the pc release
consoles don't have AA. welcome to 1980 [editline]16th September 2013[/editline]
Blimey; let's hope the PC version is better and puts the console version to shame. Also they should have probably waited until next-gen; if anything GTA is kind of a hot IP and might have been enough to convince people to buy the system for that title.
i don't think anybody in their right mind would spend more than 400-500 dollars just to play one game
Need a 64gb SSD dedicated to GTA games
consoles don't have AA.
Consoles had anti alias for ages. Just look at most of the gamecube and xbox1 games it's extremely noteable there.
Need a 64gb SSD dedicated to GTA games
I just installed one a Crucial M4 64 GB in my PS3, like 2 hours ago. Cannot wait! Only 14 hours more and I'll have the game in my hand!
i guess the opinion isn't shared here, but everyone i know(including myself) turns off AA completely; every little bit needs to be gone.
Just because your small group of friends doesn't use AA doesn't mean that devs should completely remove the feature. If you hate it so much then just don't use it.
the 360 actually has a seperate chip just for aa the consoles just aren't powerful enough to push that kind of AA on games like GTA V. older games noticably use antialiasing
Didn't do a good job with it though: http://techreport.com/review/8342/details-of-ati-xbox-360-gpu-unveiled/2 Though sounds like the 10MB eDRAM option isn't ONLY for AA, but more so some pixel fill operations.
Also give me a picture or an example where AA in a game (with a reasonable budget) causes problems where you can't decipher where a object ends and begins.
-snip- nevermind
