Beer's an acquired taste, you don't go around bitching about how shitty coffee tastes because it's too bitter, you try different kinds of coffee, get used to the bitterness and then start to appreciate the different kinds. There's a lot of beer I don't really enjoy but some of it's pretty good.
Nah man, I put cream and sugar in my coffee. Are you telling me to put cream and sugar in my beers too?
oh man, down here in new zealand we have kiwifruit and mandarin cider and it is the best thing ever.
That does sound pretty fucking good. And stereotypical.
I think the issue is more that bars generally carry terrible beer rather than beer as a whole being bad
The only alcoholic drink that tastes nice and isn't considered girly is pear cider.
This is pretty great too, if a little pricey
Most people i know hate shitty Australian beers and end up drinking cheap cider. Personally i'll buy a bottle of coconut rum or a bottle of $4 wine and i'll be fucking good for the night.
Beer is great. At least it is here in Belgium :v:
You guys know how to make a good beer :P Also England is the place to come for really good ale. Here's a few I like: Wychwood Hobgoblin Theakston's Old Peculier Ringwood Old Thumper St. Austell (visited this brewery and tried pretty much everything they had. Liked it all and came back with 3 wholesale cases (36x 500ml bottles). In our country it is a mortal sin to drink any of the cheap brands. There's a crate of beer here that you can get for about 5 bucks / 4 euros. It tastes like literal piss. Then again we have many good quality beers to choose from, everyone has their own tastes, and some don't like beer at all. But I'll admit that doing stupid shit to get drunk and being told what to like and what not to like is completely ass-on-head dumb.
Don't you hate on Carapils (cans, bottled does really suck), it's an acquired taste (the little taste it has) and it's great to get pissed on a tight budget. :v: Really, if it's sufficiently cold and you drink it quickly it's fine.
Are mojitos girl drinks? They're my favourite cocktail to make and drink. A well done mojito is absolute heaven.
Drinks vs drinks. or just Drinks. [editline]3rd October 2014[/editline] If only
Saying "beer is disgusting ew" is pretty unfair; you wouldn't so easily say "coffee/wine/whiskey is disgusting ew" just because you haven't acquired the taste (... yet!). Like any drink that isn't artificially sweetened, the taste is usually not pre-acquired. Stick with it for a while - there's a lot to appreciate about beer once you get over the absence of sucrose! Beer is widely mistaken as less refined or of lesser quality than wine or fine spirits, probably due to two factors, 1) beer has been heavily industrialized almost everywhere (notably not in Germany and Belgium!), and 2) beer is carbonated and typically of a lower alcohol content so it's arguably a lot easier to acquire the taste, hence making it highly mainstream. Industrialized beers are willing to sacrifice anything to mass production: they use minimal amounts of hops, their choice of yeast is heavily influenced by economical motives, they often artificially add CO2 instead of waiting for natural carbonation, they'll happily add substances like corn starch to make the process cheaper, they're always filtered to last longer and to create a uniform taste, and the list goes on. Different industrial-scale breweries use different techniques to facilitate mass production, but the result is invariably similar - a really thin but heavily carbonated pale lager with only minimal beer-like flavours (maltose sweetness, hoppiness, esters etc). Many industrial beers are still perfectly good drinks, but they don't represent the possibilites of beer. It's an unfortunate image because brewing beer is just as much an art as making other alcoholic beverages, there's an innumerable amount of things you can do to change the result, creating an extremely rich variety of styles and flavours. I strongly recommend trying out some less industrialized beer, microbrewed beer or local beer if you have any doubts; if you're in Europe, you can find less industrialized beers like Belgian beer almost anywhere if you're on the lookout, and if you're in the US, craft beer is often available. Especially in recent years both traditional breweries and microbreweries are making a comeback all around the world, so even the least beer-conscious joint might just have one good beer lying around. One type of beer that is often recommended to people who haven't acquired the taste is wheat beer. Wheat beers come in different types too, but they usually have a strong estery sweetness that is very similar to sucrose. "Acquired taste" is not code for "bitter and bad". Sure, everyone likes table sugar, but that doesn't mean drinks or foods devoid of it are bad. tl;dr don't diss beer.
it isnt really a taste i want to acquire tbh
Don't you hate on Carapils (cans, bottled does really suck), it's an acquired taste (the little taste it has) and it's great to get pissed on a tight budget. :v: Really, if it's sufficiently cold and you drink it quickly it's fine.
The fact that you even knew that it was Carapils shows just how much of a reputation it has
Just like any sort of drink there's good ones and bad ones. There's good whiskey and there's bad whiskey. There's good sodas and there's bad sodas. I'll admit beer is mostly an acquired taste, but I enjoy and look forward to drinking a galaxy with dinner or something
There's good beer then there's beer I can afford.
Australian beer isn't too bad, I mean you walk into an aussie pub and all of the taps are 'CARLTON DRAUGHT CUNT'
Yes, I like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain, I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.
At least we can drink margaritas. Everyone loves margaritas.
If you like girly drinks better then why the fuck not drink them? Last time I checked, you're gay when you dig dudes, not because of your choice of beverage
I hear everyone call american beer "basically water", but I'm sure compared to other drinks everywhere else it's true. wouldn't that make beer a girly drink?
The problem is that people think that all American beer is Coors Light. Most of our mass-produced, heavily-advertised and exported beers suck ass, but we have some incredible craft beers. [editline]3rd October 2014[/editline] And we even have some good mass-produced beers like Yuengling. Bars all over the place list it as an import so they can mark up the price, even though it's America's oldest brewery. :v: The deliciousness/cost ratio is just too good for them to allow.
Maybe this guy isn't manly enough to drink manly drinks?
Good beers aren't hard to come by. They're something that go well with meals, though. Like every Friday, all the devs where I work, myself included, go out and get a big lunch with a few beers. However, some beers are absolutely bitter, and disgusting. I find I can't drink most IPAs, there's little flavor beyond "make you gag it's so bitter." But lighter beers like pale lagers (mostly pilsners) and wheat beers aren't so bitter. Blue Moon is one of my favorite beers because it's spiced, not bitter, and goes well with a lot of hearty meals, and it ain't 8 bucks a pint. But if I'm looking to get wasted, it's girly drinks for me. Mike's Harder Lemonades are delicious and 8% booze. I can knock one back without wincing in a minute.
Honestly I don't really drink much, I do prefer girly shit like Lemonade and coolers ,but My favorites a Black Superman
If you aren't drinking spirits you are just wasting your time [editline]4th October 2014[/editline] And for the classic bogan standard, Bundy + Coke at 50:50 ratio.
I can listen to this guy complaining about stuff all day long and would be amazingly amused. [editline]3rd October 2014[/editline]
Are mojitos girl drinks? I like piña coladas.
I can drink anything as long as it has alcohol in it

When he'd have leave he'd mix the drinks starting out 50:50 but when you weren't watching it went up to 80:20. Sneaky shit nearly wiped me out once from that. Speaking of spirits though, Stolichnaya's a pretty A+ and cheap vodka to mix drinks. It's like smirnoff but it doesn't taste like shit and it's also half the price. [editline]3rd October 2014[/editline]
I can drink anything as long as it has alcohol in it
I used to think this until someone gave me a bottle of vanilla coconut rum. "Here mate, it's free. All yours buddy" I almost threw up after the first shot and that was the first shot of the night.
I wouldn't call a dude out for sipping a Bacardi Breezer, but being able to enjoy disgusting/strong booze is no doubt a guy thing.
if you enjoy something then obviously it's not disgusting strong doesn't equal disgusting, as simple as that
The only alcohol I have ever touched was Champagne. I don't get why people like it. and me knowing fuck all about alcohol, left it to go warm, bad idea. Bourbon Cola sounds interesting tho.
Meh. I genuinly don't like sugary or sweet alcohol. I prefer whiskey, cognac and good old beer to pretty much anything.
