im quite offended at the mudcrabs wearing top hats mod
I feel like as a kid, when asked what she wanted for dinner, she replied several months later with a half hour long video, she really does take a long time to say very little

This is baffling. What are you even upset at? That people are choosing to turn their game into Leisure Suit Larry with dragons? Why?
i get a huge 'nitpicking' vibe from this video

"Bethesda RPG's are sexist because part of their communities create sexual content."
Yeah, no.
My biggest gripe is still her fleeting examples, like showing small clips of games that are apparently guilty of a trope. It annoys me seeing her imply some game did x wrong without elaboration or explanation. I want to know the reasoning behind her opinion, like why would Rochelle be a token female character?
Anita talks about Ms.Mans
While having this created and used.

Isn't the "a princess SUDDENLY GONE INDEPENDENT AND DONT NEED NO MAN" thing a trope in itself

Those are mods, not the actual game.
And on the opposite end you have mods like Morrowind Overhaul, Nehrim, and do more than "make walking bimbo simulators."
Also, use other sites than LoversLab and Nexus.

Definitely, it's not like Bethesda is backing the nsfw modders or anything. They distance themselves from the modding community so Bethesda themselves can't be blamed.

Uh yeah they can? Why would they make a video game knowing that sexist pigs could make models for the game that would make it sexist?
I liked this video overall, if only because I enjoy watching analyses of things, but her stupid segment about gender signifiers is very dumb, "o no a gender binary OMG!"
these kind of videos should go straight up to "mass debate"
MORE like it belongs in the trash!

that's what he said

oh come on male Shepard is the selected Shepard because he is used by the vast majority of people.
Oh wait, she knows that...I...don't get it. She's just forcing this onto things it seems, they have to make a choice for some things, what does she want from them.
I find it counterintuitive how she keeps talking about "female signifiers" in video games despite showing them off on her very own person. Besides, people get offended at everything and it's not like this millenium-old problem of female social standing is going to dissipate like wet toilet paper as soon as someone makes a completely non-sexist video game.
First of all, we're comparing a real person to a designed character, so it makes sense that what elements comprise that character's design stand up to greater scrutiny. Secondly, she even states herself that gender signifiers in and of themselves aren't bad. The problem is when that's all characters define themselves with. Anita isn't defined as the female version of some other character, or the token female in a male defined group, or in general primarily defined by her femininity.
Think of the koopas. There's a bunch of male koopas whose design choices depict aspects of their personality, and then one female koopa whose design defines her as female and nothing else.
Your last statement is completely asinine.

Well, for all the games that they make of a point of character customization, it might be nice to have something that isn't some variant on semishaved white guy as your default. Rightly or wrongly, that's seen as the default version of the character. Not to mention, monotonous as balls.

does it really matter to you that much that the default is a white guy whos shaven?
the customization is there for a reason i mean holy shit thats some extremely nitpicking bullshit
Think of the koopas. There's a bunch of male koopas whose design choices depict aspects of their personality, and then one female koopa whose design defines her as female and nothing else.
one of the koopas rides a ball in super mario world on a platform that tilts around
i take a lot out of that about his personality such as "he likes this giant ball" and "he does not suffer from vertigo"
joking aside id like to point out that one koopa is a bookworm (thick rimmed glasses), one is a punk (mohawk), one is a girl (bow), one is dark skinned, and one male koopa wears pink on his shell and wears pink effeminate glasses which CAN suggest that he could be trans or gay (or just plain stylish)
i think focusing on the fact that one wears a bow and is obviously female detracts from the point that all of the koopa kids wear similar items that may suggest one thing or the other. for super mario bros 3 these designs are pretty progressive for several groups of people.
if you're going to take source material from the cartoon however, the cartoon is not video games and didn't really have much in common with the games themselves.
Why doesn't she spend her time I don't know... campaigning about things that matter? Like mistreatment and oppression of women in real life? Sheeeiiit does she even play videogames?

She does and she does.
The Mass Effect part doesn't really make sense. If they used female shepard in all the commercials, she'd go on about how Bioware is just trying to "use" the character to sell the game and objectifies the character.

That starts as a default for character customization because its like a blank canvas for you to work with, so its doing its job when you say monotonous as balls.
Stop nitpicking.

probably not, though i have no idea. considering female shepard is just as badass as the male counterpart and isnt tits and ass, shes generally much better than most female characters made for marketing.
that being said, female shepard does not sell. a publisher would never allow bioware to use female shepard for marketing for that reason. this is not a problem with the game but of corporate and commercial nature, so either way it's misplaced criticism.

That depends on how you did it. Treat her like a lady in latex with a gun (cough*miranda*cough) with ass shots and the like, yes. Treat her like Mshep, no.
I just wanna play video games. Why can't I just play video games anymore? Video games are fun.
I just wanna play video games. Why can't I just play video games anymore? Video games are fun.
if im not having fun nobody is allowed to have fun

ironically miranda is a complicated and well written character and the m and f sheps are blank slates with personalities only set by the player.
shes not just latex with a gun and m.shep is just another bald space marine so lol i dunno
these kind of videos should go straight up to "mass debate", not here.

MORE like it belongs in the trash!
When people say "take x to mass debate" they usually just mean "take it to a vastly less popular part of the forums that I may or may not even browse"
I don't agree with a lot of what Sarkeesian says but there is no reason it shouldn't be posted in this section. If you don't want to see it just don't click the thread, or if you really can't help yourself, rate boxes and move on.

Bioware are a fucking joke, I'm surprised anyone takes them seriously.

i think there's better reasons why bioware are a joke now than those questionable designs :v:
