Ms. Male Character - Tropes vs Women in Video Games

How do backers feel about the videos.
As long as there is no mass revolt over the use of the money, they are probably fine with giving her 100,000 out of 6000 dollars for her videos.
but she needed the money so she could photoshop things poorly
The whole thing makes me sad. Anita lies about her background while everyone else either throws a huge fit or pats themselves on the back for feeling the same way. Yaaay we're all individuals together!
are we really gonna rehash that she only asked and needed 6,000 this is a really stupid and old argument im so upset im only using run on sentences
but she needed the money so she could photoshop things poorly
I guess my only real legit problem with her is that she does not seem to be making more than videos? Unless I am horribly informed is she not planning to do something more ambitious like a Women Gaming website? An Advocacy group? Events? Not even get other people to help her with the videos?
She has so much potential. People know her name. She has a war-chest of a few dozen thousand dollars to work with (and I am sure backers would be happy to see non-video stuff being done too).
Until she gets more help she will be making videos at Jontron speed

but still a valid one and you should prolly get that run on sentence thing checked out if its makin you upset relax man relax cmon
you know I'll never understand how someone can take themselves seriously, consider something like this part of a 'movement,' and actually put a production effort into discussing and recording thoughts on 'tropes' (I now hate everything about this word) in video games.

not anymore it's old and tired and dumb and has been buried a long time ago
not anymore it's old and tired and dumb and has been buried a long time ago
why is it old tired and dumb?
If it's THAT old you should have a go-to response for it already. It's still completely valid.
why is it old tired and dumb?
because it's been argued to death and been debunked

what was the result of the debunking? is it the " how do the backers feel " thing?

backers are the ones who paid for it, they are the only one with the right to be pissed off with whatever anita produces.
she only asked for $6,000. this wasn't supposed to be a giant project like it was made out to be by media/public exposure. if you look at this as her wanting $100,000 and getting that much you will always be disappointed because the proposed project was nowhere near that ambitious.
thanks for listening change topic now plz.
that makes sense
The answer to that question is this thread
Well actually this one was not so bad.
I guess the answer to that question is the amount of Dumb ratings the OP got
While there will always be a knee jerk reaction you can minimize it by softening your blows
It's super easy to talk down a confrontation and begin a mutual understanding by establishing a common ground. That's something I think Anita fails to do. Look at the common arguments against her, someone will usually throw in that she's not a real gamer, they look to separate her from them and bifurcate things, and she does little to dispel that. People caught up in the hate tornado pretty much seem to think of her as an outsider seeking to discredit game developers and gaming culture. However, people like you and I (and what Anita purports to be but let's not get into that, we've all seen the video blah blah blah) are rather just people who love an art form and seek to correct disturbing trends in the industry, and that's the kind of standpoint from which gamers will listen to you. Few people would argue for midriff and cleavage exposing armor anymore, it's been a joke among the culture for years and there is a genuine interest in putting that practice to rest even by the consumer. It's not like the culture is just inherently out to objectify women or portray them negatively, they just plug their ears about it when they perceive pointing it out as a threat. Anita unfortunately has her work cut out for her being a feminist which has become a dirty word in many circles and the unfortunate stereotype that women can't be gamers. I'm not confident she'll ever be able to find a subtle, calming approach now with the reputation she's acquired.

No those aren't. This isn't an attack on thisispain but he's dismissing the question, just like you are. If you're gonna talk about it, then do it. Otherwise let everyone else get to it.
On that note, I'm out. I don't enjoy having the same chats with the same people and coming to the same conclusions.

this makes me mad. what does this even mean, is there some message or something trying to be sent? it doesn't even make sense, Zelda was a princess in a medieval/fantasy environment, of course she's going to wear a fucking dress. and even if Zelda was inclined to 'get this one' in regards to a task, she'd be decked out in mawfuckin Sheik gear because that's her offensive style and tradition. She wouldn't fucking try to dress like Link that's some stupid shit yo. SHE DOESN'T EVEN EXCEL WITH A SWORD AND SHIELD COMBINATION.
No those aren't. This isn't an attack on thisispain but he's dismissing the question, just like you are.
i think i have a valid reason to dismiss something that has nothing to do with her topic
thats sexist please stop video games are serious business they reinforce cultural stuff just like how this generation playing call of duty is gonna army
this attitude is so obnoxious. "I like games but I'll discredit them all the time and I want them to be culturally significant but I'll patronize their importance"
Everyone always complains about the lingering stigma on games as childish or mindless or just a fad but then they reinforce that stigma from within

not sure if im percieving the tone of your post properly, but you do realize im not being serious here right?
the tone of his post was to call you obnoxious and i agree
alright thankyou for explaining
not sure if im percieving the tone of your post properly, but you do realize im not being serious here right?
yeah you were being sarcastic about video games being serious which implies you think they aren't serious which reinforces the negative stigma behind them that they can never be culturally relevant which I'm sure you've no doubt complained about
that or you do in fact perceive it as nothing more than mindless stimulation in which case whatever you're entitled to that opinion just don't chime in with it when people who actually like this stuff are trying to have a serious discussion
case in point: video games + "serious discussion" = "funny"
the very idea of games holding any cultural significance is hysterical!
Why is causing shame an offensive thing? Shame is like the first step in making things better, her causing shame is a good thing and it shows she is doing a good job by hitting a nerve.
if you look at that kind of stuff objectively nothing makes sense, but we just all happen to be human beings and feelings happen to be a real thing
this makes me mad. what does this even mean, is there some message or something trying to be sent? it doesn't even make sense, Zelda was a princess in a medieval/fantasy environment, of course she's going to wear a fucking dress. and even if Zelda was inclined to 'get this one' in regards to a task, she'd be decked out in mawfuckin Sheik gear because that's her offensive style and tradition. And it's like, my biggest thing about people targeting LoZ with feminism, being all like "OH WELL SHE'S THE PRINCESS SHE HAS TO BE SAVED SHE'S A FRAIL WOMAN BLUH BLUH"
Did they even play the Zelda games, especially the newer ones? Yeah, the undertones for the princess needing saved are there, especially at the beginning of the game but in Wind Waker and, especially, Twilight Princess, she's a strong female model, leader of a fucking Pirate Crew and fought to protect her kingdom respectively and helps you fight at the end. So yeah, towards the start it's all like "SAVE THE PRINCESS" but past that? It's about stopping Ganon and saving the world. Literally, saving her is a secondary objective. You can't target LoZ saying it's sexist when really it's not. It's not all about saving the frail princess when the princess isn't even the primary objective nor is she frail, she fucking helps you fight.
Just stupid, imo.
[editline]19th November 2013[/editline]
Hell, she even has the Triforce of Wisdom and Knowledge is Power, so that's even further mooting the point AND she's the leader of a Kingdom, she's literally doing better than Link and Ganon in every way, sans fighting ability. Link is some farmboy in TP and some kid on an island in WW, Ganon is some bastard sealed away for being a dick, she has everything made for her and is above all the men in the game in that regard.

Also Peach looks fuckin' stupid in that picture.
