we use lbs in north america
[editline]22nd March 2013[/editline]
oly weights are in KG
pounds weigh less than Kilograms, so if its a 45kg plate, thats actually roughly a 99lb plate there, which is crazy because its the exact size of the plates I use.
Edited
Nevermind, I just watched it in 1080 and saw that they were actually 45lbs.
what the fuck, why is she laying down like that? it looks like it fucking hurts
It may look like it hurts but it obviously works.
I think a 13 year old just became my insperation.
The way she lifts makes me think that she's gonna break her spine one day.
Being a powerlifter, which actually go to competitions unlike 99% of FP can say that this is so and so, in my competitions it would either be legal or illegal depending on which competition i went to. You guys are just jelly and talks shit because a 13 year old benches more than them.
You use everything you can to get those extra kg's during lifts. Such can be the difference of losing and winning.
edit:
actually i dont even think most of you even would manage to do 100kg with that form
God dammit, I've been working on my bench for so long and can't even bench 200 pounds. Feels bad man.
Weight lifting in general shrinks people (or at least it seems that way) I've got a friend who both his parents are body builders and everyone in his family is super fucking short.
This girl looks very tall for a 13 year old though

I can't understand this, even for a competition. Here in Finland we call that form "Runkkupenkki", which literally translates to "wankers bench". I don't see why this is more common at competitions and such, because the bar moves like an inch and then you call it a day, hurray.
I don't know, maybe I'm just "uneducated" in these things, but I've always found the regular "soldier bench" to be waaaay more impressive.
I mean, compare this to the OP's video.

Yeah, the girl is young bla bla bla, but that's not the point I'm chasing here.
ITT: people that don't even lift

She would break my knuckles if I ever shook her hand.

oh lawd
it doesn't matter if you're more "impressed" with soldiers bench.
when we're doing it, we're doing it to win or rank up on the ladder as high as possible. We basically don't give fuck if it's "stronger" to do a normal flat bench with 100KG. We're taking every advantage we can because everyone else also does it. Normal bench etc we train when we're not doing competitions. And trust me we use alot og variations when we're benching.
having 240lbs sitting on you when you're in that position is not good for you.
callisthenics wise it is, as soon as you start adding weight it's not
good thing she wasn't doing back bridges while benching
even if it wasn't safe, don't you think any of those people (especially her trainer) would have said something?

I mean, she's thirteen. If she was at risk of seriously harming her body by doing it the wrong way I think somebody would warn her instead of letting it just happen

Yes, I understand that you're "taking every advantage you can" when it's a competition, but that's exactly my point in all this.
Why make it so complicated and why is something that horribly sounds to me like cutting corners and downright cheating even allowed? Isn't bench press about the strenght on the upper body, such as chest, shoulders and upper arms? That form let's you use your legs and glutes to get more push behind it, while the soldier bench is just about the strenght of the "correct" muscle groups for bench press.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I can already tell you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
I'll start with 1. As i earlier said, it depends on the competitions. Some competitions even allow you to use two bench shirts (which is frowned upon) and even the video was in the extreme when i saw the form, even because you think it "looks" like cheating doesn't mean it's easy as you make it out to be. It's still 100 fucking KG.
2. I can tell you haven't even peformed that movement at all, pushing with it legs are illegal, your ass has to touch the bench.
Here is one for ya, next time you workout. Try pushing with your legs without lifting your ass.
not to mention the normal bench are better for building muscle i believe.
Yeah, the point in powerlifting isn't to be as impressive as possible or whatever. It's about putting up the highest numbers, which involves using every mechanical advantage in your arsenal. Looking impressive doesn't win competitions, your numbers do. And if that means widening your grip and arching your back to minimize ROM, then that's what you gotta do. Powerlifting isn't as much about who is stronger as it is who is a better lifter.
