when i first read the title, i thought you were referring to the rings in tf2
Or maybe it's someone who's just fucking around and not being serious?
why would you assume he's not being serious when there are idiots like that on Facepunch which is a significantly smarter place than Youtube
Quote from a Diamond importer on Reddit(yea I know). Rest of it here. http://np.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1y0gzq/why_engagement_rings_are_a_scam/cfgf2b4
I thought the purpose of this video was to make fun of the people that are like the guy in the video, not as an actual PSA
what upsets me in the artificial inflation of the price of diamonds is how it has hindered the development of synthetic diamonds, which can be used for thermal conduction and with boron can make it conductive and possibly be used as circuits in chips.
its like cubic zirconium, expensive for no reason but that it's just man made diamond
The only reason why a shiny rock has any value in the first place is because everybody arbitrarily decided that it does usually because it was hard to find and because it looks sort of pretty. Once you remove the difficulty of getting the shiny rock of course just becomes "i have all of the shiny rocks and i say that they're this valuable".
Um, these are the only rings worth mentioning.
So, someone mentioned decoder rings. And that lead me to my decision of using fancy decoder rings for engagement rings. The reason being that if my lover finds the decoder rings to be an awesome engagement ring, then she's a keeper. IF not, she's a shallow bitch that requires a traditionally hollow gesture item and therefor not worth my time.
I'd probably try to make the ring myself or something.
Pipe cleaners are forever.
I don't like Diamonds. They have no color, and thus, can't really represent the love and heart that goes into two different people becoming one. If I were to get an engagement ring for a love, I'd get a Ruby, or an Emerald, or a Sapphire! There is more color and meaning within those Jewels, moreso than a bland, expensive Diamond.
If you are gonna get someone flowers. Take them out to the field with you for a picnic, and make it an actual experience. Take a day of time to cook pastries or make fudge, and enjoy it together as a symbol of union. If you still believe in an engagement ring... Take your loved one gem hunting with you, and let them choose what gemstone they want in the ring you are gonna make them. I mean seriously... When you give someone something that you actually took the time to learn the craft, and build for them, it's something more then a store bought piece of junk. I personally would want to propose to a girl with an ammolite ring: [t]http://cdn.jewelry-auctioned.com/uploads/images/25000-29999/28241/28241_1350458824.jpg[/t] Far more gorgeous then a diamond, and it gives me an excuse to go hiking and metal detecting more often. The hard part is getting a good gemstone.
I'd probably try to make the ring myself or something.
Will you marry me? I made you this macaroni necklace Hey you know you might be onto something here
It's really not that hard to make a ring..I made a ring out of brass a year ago as a gift for a friend and it turned out fine, I'm not a master carpenter or a blacksmith. You just need to melt the brass and pour it into a proper mold and then smooth it out with some cheap tools.
yeah and what would a person rather have, a ring that looks like a few paper clips soldered together or something that's professionally made by a person that literally gets paid to make them for a living. "It's the thought that counts!!!!!" only goes so far.
On kickstarter there's this at the moment. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/210541927/carbon-fiber-jewelry-rings-sizes-6-13?ref=live 25 dollar rad looking carbon fiber rings. Hah! I'm in a homosexual relationship, and thus I can't get married at all! I've wriggled out of your plot, De Beers!
content aside, the video was pretty well made, the costumes and in general the old timey bits were really cool

If I'm going to spend a lot on an expensive rock, at the very least I'd rather get one that isn't going to drop significantly in price the moment I purchase it. I always preferred the colored stones anyways.
My parents have like 20$ engagement rings that they bought from wallmart 20 years ago, still maried.
me and my gf discussed it, and we just want something thats cute and matches, doesnt have to have diamonds. who the fuck cares if it has diamonds.
better not be diamonds, diamonds are gay tbh i dont care if it has ANY rock in it, unless its something like, our birthstones or something. thatd be cute
What's more important: Us being together till death do us part, or a fucking ring?
diamonds are over-rated, espeacially if its a natural diamond. artificial ones are bigger, better, cheaper, and not funding civil wars but the stigma still remains.
Personally I don't understand how people can spend so much money on pieces of metal and minerals that have no practical use and don't even look that pretty. Just think of all the cool things you could get instead of some diamond ring.
What's more important: Us being together till death do us part, or a fucking ring?
what if you spent so much on the ring you'd be losing more from that than the divorce settlement that'll teach you to respect the sanctity of marriage! and as someone else said they did, my fiance and I decided to keep things simple but meaningful. For SOME reason we value money's ability to buy food more than trinkets to flaunt. She also works in a part of town where the only people she usually sees are upper class soccer moms, and the giant rings she keeps seeing are really offputting, both in how big/gaudy they are, and how much could have been spent on something like a financial advisor

does this work with canadian quarters?
does this work with canadian quarters?
Only if you gift it as some sort of an apology.
