Egotism for the sake of a joke is still egotism. It may not be sincere, but if you find it to be annoying it will still be annoying, joke or not.
That said, he tends to raise some very good points.
He has said on his podcast the show was hated when he first started doing it until he pretty much just went all in on the alter-ego he created, so thats why his "character" is how he is now on the show.

His act is seperate from the parts where he makes his points. I don't see the problem.
