We're getting a stupid live action, robot anime level movie and I'm loving every second of it. I want to see robots punch stuff in the face. The first one delivered, I expect this one to. Also: "IT'S YOU.... TIMES 1000. TALL AS A MOUNTAIN. WITH A BEATING HEART THAT BURNS AS BRIGHT... AS THE SUN". That literally feels ripped out of a anime.
The only thing i need say Also is deltoro involved at all? I remember there being some kerfuffle around him and Pacific Rim 2, and if he's out of it that might explain the less than amazing bot designs. Cherno Alpha was my jam.
Alright, place your bets: What bots will be scrap metal by the middle of this? I'm calling the sword robot and the mace bot.
All of them. I can already see it, the jaegers will be highly regarded for like half the movie, the pinnacle of human invention, the best humanity can do, the "we've never been readier to fight these fucking cunts than now", then the moment the monsters come back they all get fucked to shit.

This looks like an in universe ad to show off the absolute latest and best, I bet there will still be some older bulky models in the actual movie
This looks like an in universe ad to show off the absolute latest and best, I bet there will still be some older bulky models in the actual movie
Presumably these advanced models will be completely fucking totaled in the first act and they'll have to bring back some of the older bulky models, that would be interesting, but I honestly don't mind if they survive, because while they aren't as unique as the original models visually, since each individual model was a different mark entirely, like Cherno Alpha being a Mark 1 or Crimson Typhoon being a Mark 4, they still look cool. Plus the technology advancing after Striker Eureka makes sense, the Mark 5 was already a rather sleak and clean design, these Jaeger are probably Mark 6-7s at this point.
I don't know why people are thinking the older models are going to rise up and save the day. there aren't any left. Seriously. By the time the story of PR1 happens, the only remaining surviving functional Jaegers are Cherno Alpha, Gypsy Danger, Crimson Typhoon, and Striker Eureka, and none of them survived the movie. Unless other models were repaired from Oblivion bay, then there are zero older generation Jaegers still functional. Not to mention it would be stupid as shit to go back -again- to "oh the older ones are better" considering the Kaiju's whole shtick is each subsequent generation is literally designed to counter every Jaeger encountered previously. They aren't going to let themselves get dropkicked by a Gen3 again.
Pacific Rim is pure Kaijukino, everything about it was great except maybe for the damn retarded idea about the goddamn wall. Like would the Kaijus just wander around forever being all "meh fuck walls"? I liked Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi but Idris Elba really made the movie, without his performance everyone else would just kind of be... there. The "Cancelling the Apocalypse" speech is still one of the coolest speeches in a movie ever, just pulled off perfectly IMO. Puts you in the right mood for the movie. I get that he can't come back for obvious reasons :v: but why doesn't this movie focus on Becket and Mori? Why is it about an entirely new character? Why do the Jaegers look like Power Ranger Zords? Why is John Boyega suddenly the main character? Did Charlie Hunnam quit Pacific Rim entirely? Is it to seem progressive? I read somewhere that John Boyega plays [sp]Idris Elbas son in this movie. Wouldn't that completely ruin his character from Pacific Rim, with him caring for Mako like she is his own daughter and not wanting her to get into a Jaeger?[/sp] Pure speculation though, no idea if this is true. I get that it's 10 years in the future and stuff but I don't know if I like the direction this is going in. I'm dieing for new information here. It seems so vastly different from the first. The Jaegers had no weight at all but that could be because of the "in-universe add" of the Jaegers and stuff.
It'd be nice if somebody fished Crimson Typhoon out though. 95% of that thing is completely intact and ready to go.
it was also insanely badass and i needed to see it truly in action
Something about this just looks so cheap compared the the first film, like the main guys suit looks more like a cosplay than film prop, helmet wobbling everywhere + black morph suit. [t]http://i.imgur.com/hykUnW6.jpg[/t]
Say what you will about them using the GLaDOS voice so much, I personally can't get enough of robot Ellen McLain.
It'd be nice if somebody fished Crimson Typhoon out though. 95% of that thing is completely intact and ready to go.
You could rebuild Cherno too. I need more rusky utilitarian bad ass engineering in my life. Although typhoon was specifically designed for the triplets to pilot, so i doubt the three arm deal would return.
I don't know, I like the new designs. It only makes sense that technology advances as time moves forward and that they all look their best considering it's an in-universe advertisement for the program. The only thing I want is for the Jaegers in the movie not to move so smoothly. I don't want it to be a fast paced action movie with robots a la Transformers, I liked that the mechs and monsters moved slow in the first one, it gave them a sense of weight and size. I wouldn't mind if they moved a little faster than the first one, but not anime lightning-fast.
it's been a decade since the events of the first movie and it's very clear that after the success of the program in the original that the Jaegers have been pushed towards mass production to some degree. I mean duh they're going to look cleaner and a bit uninspired, that's how life works. I'd eat my hat if they didn't specifically include a scene that involves one of the old models being reactivated to either lead or fight the new Jaegers at the climax of the film, with the two main characters from the last piloting it.

I know it's just a teaser, but I wish there was more.
and the other two are at the bottom of the ocean / in the kaiju realm.
correction: one is radioactive debris on the ocean floor, the other is radioactive debris in the alien dimension they can not be put back together, there's nothing really left - the other was destroyed by a nuclear bomb and the other literally became a nuclear bomb

Thinking about it, I have a suspicion that we'll see [sp]a Kaiju-built jaeger at some point in the movie, based off the wreck of Gypsy Danger left behind in the Kaiju realm.[/sp]
[sp]Didn't that go nuclear though? You can't exactly recover something that gets vaporized[/sp]
[sp]Things don't just get vaporized like that though, even when a nuclear bomb goes off. Weaker structures made of wood can even leave behind debris.[/sp]
I can almost guarantee you that it's going to parallel country vs. country cold war style tension with Mech propaganda like the trailer we saw as a face to the gritty truth.
This would be cool. Maybe it'll boil over into some Jaeger vs Jaeger action before the kaiju come back.
I do remember seeing something about kaiju jaeger hybrids way back when PR2 was announced...
i think my biggest gripe about the first film was [sp]all the other Jaegers didn't get enough screentime and just got destroyed.... And then Gypsy Danger juts kinda wrecks everyone else. It was cool but I was kind of disappointed they all died so easily[/sp]
I do remember seeing something about kaiju jaeger hybrids way back when PR2 was announced...
Yeah, del Toro mentioned that I think when he was discussing the sequel. I'm not so sure anymore though seeing as to how he's no longer directing it, but the guy currently doing it seems pretty invested in it so maybe it is a possibility.
