I like maddox, but he was wrong in much of this. A) You paid for internet access, not Sony's servers, datacenter services, etc. B) The online is still cheaper than XBL, and you get a significant amount more perks. Not as good as free, but still. C) yea the gaming industry is changing, but we have to show explicitly what kind of behavior we want from companies. We DONT want them doing this always online stuff and restrictive usage, so we show that by cheering and supporting them. A child could figure this out. D) Sony has to undercut microsoft on price and make up for it with some of the income from PSN. As for prices, I kind of agree. I could easily say a bunch of things to make it even out but I don't know enough about European or British economies to make sense.

He's just straight wrong when it comes to the pricing. The US cost doesn't include sales tax, while almost all countries in Europe have to pay VAT. For example, in the UK it's 20%. That means that a $400 PS4 will be £307, at least. If you factor in other possible costs (e.g. cost of distributing to Europe), it's clear that while we still might be getting the worse end of the deal, we're not being screwed over nearly as much as he says.
Playstation+ gets free games though, so it's like paying for the extra services as you would for PS3 but now they just include the online multiplayer.
i dont get why they don't price their console down, they can keep their even numbers 399 USD 299 EUR 249 PND nearly the same conversions
I would buy a ps4 if it was £250. It's currently a bit pricey for me.
Tbh I don't really care about paying for online on PS4 as long as they give out the same quality of games they've been giving out on PSN+. Most of the games I've gotten free through PSN+ were games I was going to get eventually, so having PSN+ has actually saved me a lot of money.
I don't get the pricing he's worked out, he's saying that the PS4 is almost £400 after exchange rates when its advertised as £349 from Sony. I'm not that concerned anyway, the PS3 initially cost £320~ at launch and the PS4 is an improvement in spec among other things. Besides, its a long term choice. Your paying the amount in belief the console will last give or take 5 years.
About the currency price difference: it was always like this. An item that costs 400$ in the US will cost 400€ in Europe. It's been around for years and I have no clue why suddenly everyone is ranting about it. I agree, it isn't really nice to "screw" EU in such a manner, but I think they have their reasons (import tax, shipping fee, etc).

I might pick one up anyway and keep backing up my hard drive, and just keep an eye on the warranty, if anything goes wrong I can just export my saves to my PS3 and use that until its returned.
Playstation+ gets free games though, so it's like paying for the extra services as you would for PS3 but now they just include the online multiplayer.
So does Xbox Live now
B) The online is still cheaper than XBL
wait what? Gold is $60 a year isn't it? PS+ is $5 per month? 12x5=60?
wait what? Gold is $60 a year isn't it? PS+ is $5 per month? 12x5=60?
PS+ is $50/yr iirc
So does Xbox Live now
Halo 3 and Assassins Creed 2 which I'm sure most Xbox owners already have
So does Xbox Live now
They need to have a lot more modern games than AC2 and halo 3, they're great games and all but who doesn't have those already? you can also pick both of them up for about £7.
He's right. I'm staying with the Mac/PC master race. (Yep. Macs are catching up, and are getting towards the same realm!)
He's right. I'm staying with the Mac/PC master race. (Yep. Macs are catching up, and are getting towards the same realm!)
ha, akin to saying Linux is getting towards the same realm. Valve games and boring indie's don't constitute as every game ever :v:
If the PS4 isn't region locked, surely i could order one overseas to the UK and get it waaaaaay cheaper. Or does VAT cancel that out?

Just saying, my PC will get more use but I've got some good stuff installed on my Mac.
