The ones who aren't complaining purely because they are racists have a point. When I hear the word "Mafia" I think of the cosa nostra primarily. Mafia 2 (only one I played, forgive me padre) to me perfected the feel of the Italian mob. You joined slowly because you wanted the money and liked the lifestyle, sort of like how Goodfellas started. I was hoping for either a continuation of Vito's story or someone who joins the Mafia and gets in his circles. Instead I get a gangsta game (of which there area few already) where you set out to kill the only type of organized crime I ever found actually alluring in some immature way. That doesn't mean I've decided to hate the game, just means I feel a bit disappointed right now. And that certainly doesn't make me a racist.
Black gang members were a thing before "Thug" and "gang" culture were a thing. That started in the 90's. In the 50's, and 60's, the black gangs that existed at the time were as scary as any other criminal family, as cut throat and as ruthless.
Definitely an interesting take on the series. The whole fighting against the mafia angle as well as Vito being part of it seems to almost signal that this could be the final game though. Not that it's a bad thing, of course. The main character seems a bit boring so far, but I'm sure we've barely scratched the surface concerning him. A bit off topic, but if this is the last Mafia game, I'd personally love to see Hanger 13 handle a different type of gang/mob for their next game. Maybe make a game about the Mexican Cartel, because hell knows we really haven't had any decent games about them. And of course, just call it Cartel.
That wasn't the case in Mafia 2 at all. Maybe in Mafia 1, but that was just because that was appropriate to the cars of that era. Mafia 2 had pretty arcadey driving.
Yeah, you're right, the cars in Mafia 2 were super arcadey! in arcade mode Tick it over to Simulation mode and it becomes a lot more believable.
The gameplay didn't wow me tbh, especially all the car explosions.
Yeah all of the car stuff in general was terrible. The 'Drifting' bar in the top of the screen? Why? Fucking why? The cars being plastic toys was also upsetting. This is the 60's. Cars were made of steel and were heavy and were IDGAF machines, but they were not able to plow each other around like that. A car crash should be significant, but they don't fucking explode ever in real life and I'd rather think Mafia kept slightly more on the realism side than not.
Also, what are the odds of 'nam being the counterpart to the ww2-sequence in M2 ya think?

Since Vito is in this game, I wonder if [sp]they'll shed light on whatever happened to Joe. Maybe a hint/tease to whatever happened to him? Or Vito mentioning he had family till he lost Joe, since the main character is simply trying to find a family he never had. I don't know, I'm fine with anything in that regard.[/sp]
Hope they make the game less linear and add more side activities and ways to interact with the world. Previous Mafia games had big areas with little to do, and too much god damn driving. This games needs either fast travel or better checkpoints. Also the story in mafia 2 was incredibly mediocre, hope they take a more original approach.

And I really didn't mean to come off as bigoted, sorry. I know they were just as ruthless and a completely different organisation from what they are now. I just find the Cosa Nostra "culture" more alluring and wanted more. I'll probably still enjoy this game just as much as Mafia 2 if the writing and gameplay stay as solid.
