He makes entertaining music

Jesus Christ man you defend this guy like the holy grail.
Really digging the future garage vibe
except this isn't dubstep it's still brostep lol, and there's still a lot of producers that make true-to-roots dubstep (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_6OaojbKJE or anything released on night slugs, stuff by j:kenzo, stuff by loefah fairly recently for example)
It is dubstep, just a very mainstream kind. If it was brostep, then it would have much more aggressive drops with a variety of samples instead of just the bassline.
not sure if you're being serious here
skrillex's music is not in the slightest bit unique
It was, back when he pretty much started the wave of brostep, with a few others. Besides, he does experiment with other genres and styles from time to time.
Guy's not a dj, but it does take more than a play button to compose what he does.

Rusko made Brostep way before Skrillex rode the hype wave in 2010. Skrillex also ripped off Burial in his last EP.
This thread is mind numbing to read through.
The guy makes music for fuck's sake. Some people will love it, some people will hate it. Others will just leech their opinion off some random factor like being that rebel who only likes music others don't like.
It doesn't matter if you do or don't like his music, no one really cares unless they're interested in that artist.
I don't care what anyone thinks, Skrillex is a talented mother fucker, and these days it's hard to find producers doing something totally unique and different from other people.
Of course is totally unique and different from others. Those "other people" have a reputation, so they can't afford to do stupid shit.
And this is coming from someone who likes dubstep, mind you. I just hate annoying/obnoxious "dubstep" like Skrillex's.
Jesus Christ man you defend this guy like the holy grail.
Comment was about music in general, not Skrillex in particular.

"a few others" includes rusko of course, and skrillex had a way more aggressive approach to the genre and really made it popular.
It's obvious that he was inspired by Burial in his future garage ep, but he never claimed it to be 100% original and it's all a matter of perspective whether it's a homage or ripoff.
I'm not a major fan of him, but I see so many people hating his music blindly as if he's the justin bieber of electronic music.

Skrillex had no part in creating or popularising Brostep (which dates back to around 2005) though. Rusko, Caspa, Hatcha, Dub Police and Skream were key in showing the genre to a wider audience. He literally rode in with the fad when it properly kicked off in 2010.
I think the "hate" around Skrillex is warranted because he's been shown as an undeserved poster boy for the sub-genre and he's never really shown any real respect or appreciation for the genre as a whole. He's been paraded as this genre bending pioneer when all he's really done is cotton onto existing fads within the Electronic community.

the song that that guy posted is not in any way dubstep, just because it has some sub bass does not mean it's dubstep
you couldn't possibly be more fucking wrong mate
I used to be one of those guys who hated Skrillex and only listened to his music for the xxmlgpr0420xx montage parodies but recently I've started to enjoy his music unironically and I have no idea why.

except skrillex had nothing to do with the "creation" of brostep, he just jumped on it when it got popular? first producer to bring out a brostep sound was rusko

Never said he created it, but he did jump on the wave, raised its speed and brought it to the mainstream audience. Every person who is slightly interested in dubstep knows that Rusko started brostep.

Okay yeah let's completely disregard Rinse.

This track is actually decent. Don't really dig the rest, I just don't like the crazy overkill style

Of course does a British underground radio help popularize an underground genre in Britain, but I'm talking globally.
i like it
[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
i never hated skrillex or anything i just didn't enjoy how overplayed it all was
Of course does a British underground radio help popularize an underground genre in Britain, but I'm talking globally.
It was already popular globally before Skrillex jumped onto the bandwagon. All of the legwork (in terms of broadcast and promotion) was done by British radio, British artists and international DJs.

But you can't deny that he made a giant impact on brostep and electronic music in general. Back when he released his fuckfest of robo samples, people began putting retarded transformer sounds in everything.
If you ask people who haven't followed or cared about the developement of dubstep, most would probably mention Skrillex, as he is mr-mainstream-brostep.
I'm not saying he's the first or best at anything, but he was the one to introduce many people to brostep and dubstep.
Fuck off skrillex you ruined Pendulum for me (they are planning to do a new album which is bound to contain only shitstep instead of drum and bass)
Fuck off skrillex you ruined Pendulum for me (they are planning to do a new album which is bound to contain only shitstep instead of drum and bass)
There must be some dnb in it, otherwise they could've stuck to knife party.
That's a retarded example that doesn't really apply to music though.
How do you draw a parallell between food and music like that?
There's a big difference between something that may be appealing to someones ears and something that is obviously just burnt food.
It's not like he just rolls his face across the keys and calls it music.
I don't have to be an artist to tell you your stickfigure drawing of the Mona Lisa is a piece of shit.

This is good news for me if they didn't.

This sounds like something I'd make in Audacity with the repeat tool and fucking around with effects.

i think skirllex might have invented dad rock
so how is skrillex's cancer doing
Skrillex is an excellent producer, just because everyone and their dog has heard about (and tried to copy) him doesn't actually change the merits of his music. Plus, have you actually seen his fucking label, OWSLA? He's got some extremely good artists signed to that label. Dillon Francis (Actually incredible live), Koan sound, Zedd, Dog blood, and Kill the noise to name a few.
