Some documentary on Bronies, Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, come to
210 replies, posted
Got an opinion from a friend who watched a few episodes just to figure out what the hell was going on with the whole thing.
His opinion? Higher than average children's cartoon, but not nearly as good as it seems to get hyped up by its fans.
I would watch it myself to find out, but honestly just listening to the character's names makes me want to kill myself.
Who cares? Like, I'm fine with people watching a TV show if they like it, even if it's My Little Pony, but really, why did they make a documentary about it?

Bronydoc: Yes, it is biased. Happy to allow thoughtful or funny comments that don't agree, but won't allow just plain* nasty comments or trolls.

and in the sad truth it's all just a way to send more merchandise just like anime conventions. the best thing to happen to pretty much any consumer product is to have a cult following.
It's a bunch of people who got together and found a way to talk about creepy shit and make stupid music and fanart and enjoy their lives more
it's a shame that way was a little girls cartoon, else people might take them seriously, or at least as seriously as furries or something like that

just a reminder, we're talking hasbro here
their TV shows are 30 minute glorified commercials. That's why there's also a billion different versions of their series, nothing makes it past 3 seasons because they want to put out a new toy line so kids have shiny new gotta-have-it things to annoy their parents about

actually i think bronies are the new furry. furry hate has gone way down since the mlp fandom gained popularity,.
Also there's the fact that a documentary about a TV show that is still running makes no goddamn sense at all
Maybe if it was 50 years old and not airing or something then it might actually make a little sense.
past all the awkwardness of being a big fan of a show designed for little girls, it's just a bunch of guys who need a place to fit in and find friendship.
people looking to fit in by literally alienating themselves from as many people as possible.
then they wonder why they dont fit in.
I personally can't wait for the whole fandom to be swept into the dustbin of history, and then years from now anthropologists and other social scientists can study the phenomena of bronies and draw conclusions about changing gender roles or whatever.
Nothing wrong with the show, but "fandom" and "good" do not go together. There's nothing "good" that can come out of devoting your life to a TV show.

It's not a documentary about a TV show? It's about the "adult" fan community

tbh fuck everyone, and this is coming from a non-brony, non-outcast type.
if you are happy in your own little social circle, and you are at least able to be cordial with everyone else(meaning you're not autistic or socially inept), then who the fuck cares if your interests fit in with everyone else? i mean i hardly understand the fandom but if this is fun for them and they make friends then why should they give a shit about anyone else?

life isn't about pleasing the most people, it's about pleasing yourself and making the world a better place.

Most of those people don't look like they're able to be cordial with everyone else and some of them have proved they aren't and are quite proud of it (see bronies react to kids react to mlp)
one of those "musician" guys is a massive asshole to all non-bronies, iirc

This. This so much.
Honestly this kind've stuff is self destructive in a way. They are trying to cast a positive light on bronies, but all they seem to succeed in doing is promote the idea that people who like the show = people who worship the show, and center their lives around it.
Then again, I guess making a documentary about "Its cool yeah, I got a shirt and I went to a meetup once" people would be boring/ridiculous.

That little animation storyline thing was cool as fuck though.

that's a p. big generalization and may not be based on reality, but your own perception of the fandom. many of the videos you see, and stories you hear are of more extreme fans of the show. it's like saying

is the average pc gamer.
idk all i wanna make clear is that if these guys are happy, it shows a bit of immaturity to constantly try and make fun of and generalize them. what happened to "live and let live"?
someone once posted this: you don't leave your mark on the world by having a great social life, you leave one by creating stuff.
obvoiusly having some form of social life is important, because our bodies are naturally driven for human interaction, but look at those guys who spent all that time making real-life houses and statues out of lego and stuff. their creations sound retarded, but they've done what they're proud of and they'll be remembered because of it
so even these guys may or may not have opened a gallon of spaghetti, i gotta give them credit for going through and creating what they wanted to create, not giving a lot of fucks in the process

its a gathering of socially awkward and stunted people, who instead of breaking out of their molds, rely on a child's tv show to connect to people. its like saying you should put out a fire by dousing it with gasoline. its not helping them or getting them out their in the world at all, its just adding another layer of awkwardness and disconnection to an already tough barrier that will prevent them from connecting with literally anyone else once this My Little Pony thing runs its long, ugly course.
and it may seem fine now, but people grow up. and when you grow up, you really get a different perspective of the kind of person you used to be. i am embarassed by a lot of shit i did in the past, but this.. i mean jesus, what would it be like to look back on your life and see a younger you who devoted his or herself to a little girls show? its a painful realization, to think about what you used to be and be ashamed by it.
its an unhealthy obsession and a social crutch that'll only lead to unhappiness in the near future.

you know i could say literally the same thing and just replace mlp with PAX, comic-con, or any other "nerdy" convention or fandom.

haven't we all been ashamed of some of our past actions at some time in our lives?
and besides, this may sound completely fucking insane, but if my 50 year old respected doctor of a mother can enjoy MLP, then i don't think i will be ashamed of liking it either
edit: life is full of unhappiness, but the important thing is to overcome it and look towards the future.

a big part of life is realizing that you used to be a dipshit when you were younger and moving on. a life without regrets is a life not lived.
Also, not all bronies "devote their lives to the show". Just because you generate content based around the show does not mean your life is devoted to it.
That's like saying that making GMod videos and liking it a lot means your life is devoted to GMod.
Also, I'm not going to look back and be ashamed of liking a television show. It's a stupid thing to be ashamed of, because in the end it's something you do personally in your free time, not something that actually matters or changes your life as a result.
I never understood all the anger about the whole mlp thing.
I don't like anime and don't think grown men should watch stuff like lucky star and K-on but that doesn't mean I get mad at people for doing it. It doesn't effect my life so why bother getting mad over it.
I give it 10 minutes before someone comes in posts the old 'but they force it down my throat!!' argument.
Just close this thread. We already know how it's going to end. Another few pages arguing, there will be that 'one guy' hating on bronies without reason, and then a mod comes in and closes it before it gets worse.
[editline]fucking[/editline]
Also, unfunny spaghetti jokes.
Whilst watching the trailer for this documentary, I could physically feel the cells of my cerebrum turning into fine strands of spaghetti.

honestly fandoms like these go through two phases that i'v seen.
the first part is when the fandom is young and you have a lot of very energetic people talking about it and spreading it around and such. this is the time when people can make the "shoving down my throats" claim(although it's still shaky at best).
then the second part is when that whole bit dies down and the hate against the fandom becomes more annoying and abrasive then the fandom ever was in the first place.
i'v seen this with furries, anime shows, mlp, and others. it's silly because the haters become the more vocal part of the fandom culture and end up being the ones that look pretty ridiculous, which is saying a lot when being compared to a group of guys singing pony songs or dressing up as foxes.
I used to think this was all a big trolling thing... a big joke...
but no
it wasn't
I used to be the kind of anti-mlp person, until I said "Fuck it, I'm going to watch it" in STGYM. After that day I've liked it ever since, watching it every saturday. I love the show because of the art and the puns made in it. I also like the fan-music to it, like Eurobeat Brony and etc. It's all a matter of opinion, and I don't mind if people don't like the fandom, and the show.

well naturally it's going to die eventually, the whole group of people realize that this particular social clique is silly for x reason and go find themselves into a y social clique. it happens in everything, there's a reason why don't hear anybody talking about emo anymore after the massive outburst in the early 2000's, now there's hipsters (which are also waning, I'll say), a "compatible" fandom. people started to really get off the emo thing with the backlash, when the cutting became mainstream, when the bands started to move on, and moved onto the next new thing.
this is the exact same thing but with impressionable people stemming from otaku, furry and assorted nerdy internet fandoms. the ponies aren't anything really, just ends to justify the means, which is to socialize, something that is naturally difficult for an overwhelming part of the world. nothing wrong with being an introvert, really, but the result of all this is just people trying to fit in with something.
what does annoy me is the "pride" thing. there's nothing to pride yourself as a brony, furry, otaku or whatever the fuck. fanaticism is something all should seek to avoid, it gets out of control quick, and there's too many folk out there willing to make use of you through it, be it for commercial gain or whatever else.
