• Some documentary on Bronies, Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, come to

The last time I watched the show was maybe 5-6 months ago. The fandom got boring real quick, and it's more of a meme on the internet now. It'll pass and go like most, with some clinging on to it.
that's a p. big generalization and may not be based on reality, but your own perception of the fandom. many of the videos you see, and stories you hear are of more extreme fans of the show. it's like saying is the average pc gamer. idk all i wanna make clear is that if these guys are happy, it shows a bit of immaturity to constantly try and make fun of and generalize them. what happened to "live and let live"?
I used to believe that most of it was just generalizations, but after seeing all this stuff with them gathered in masses, I'm entirely convinced that it's nearly impossible to be a "brony" AND not look completely pathetic.
I'll give the Bronies credit since they provided me with this. [editline]23rd January 2013[/editline] But no seriously, it's really kind of sad that some of these people feel like the only way they can have friends is if they like My Little Pony? What?
this is like a documentary for people who addicted to drugs.... but its for bronies oh god why
snip nevermind

Not to this degree. Gamers, band members, or whatever, there's plenty of average looking people who do both those things. But with these brony gatherings... it's like every single person is the most stereotypical shut-in/loser that could be imagined.
you know, back in the 1800s or so, the people of Britain saw and heard about the guys in Africa and how 'underdeveloped' their society was, the British people believed them to be complete savages. guess what their mentality is thought of today obviously brony hate isn't quite enormous, but the concept is more or less the same also: gamers, which are supposedly 'normal' on the internet, aren't immune to awkwardness either and for those who diss others on how they look, what do you look like behind your safe screen? are you really as better off as you think you are?
lol you just compared the dislike of the vehement socially inept to racism

There are cool sociable people that go to these things. Not saying that EVERYONE is a cool sociable person, but they are a hell of a lot more common than you seem to think.
you know, back in the 1800s or so, the people of Britain saw and heard about the guys in Africa and how 'underdeveloped' their society was, the British people believed them to be complete savages.
you lose a lot of points for comparing not liking fanbases to racism. while it is the same sort of generalizations taken from much smaller pockets of much larger communities that breed hatred, your point is offensive and really really dumb. the thing about the brony fandom, in my opinion, is that it's been soiled by the small but loud part of the community that are also known as the attention starved. these are usually the people that go to places like facepunch or 4chan (the non mlp boards anyway) and post pony shit not to actually talk about pony shit, but to rile up the people who can't stop complaining about pony shit. you can usually tell who they are by threads or discussion starters that only contain image macros that contain a pony showing a smug face and "u mad" underneath, or posts that follow the same line of thought, or people that spray pony ass or pony porn in your favorite source game server. this is the same small group of a larger community that came from furries, the ones that even other furries hated. i've noticed that part of the furry community has been strangely silent since my little pony became a "thing". i've seen a lot less furries actively going out of their way to grab the attention of everyone on a forum or game to show everyone "i love anthro dog dick", and met a lot more cool people who just happen to be furries, and don't act differently towards anyone just because of the things they like. a good example is if everyone hated all nerds because of shit like "King of the Nerds" and "Big Bang Theory". it's loud, it's on tv, and it claims to be "real nerds doing real nerd things xD". but even nerds hate that fucking garbage. thing is, the pony fandom is still young and has time to eventually become more acceptable if not much more tolerable. the small but loud attention starved will move on to the next big thing (or perhaps already have, and that thing may just be homestuck. as a reader, i simply cannot get into the fandom because of it), and then bronies wont feel that need to dig themselves out of such a terrible image and more than likely integrate themselves into other more general nerd cultures, where other socially unacceptable people already make friends at.
I couldn't even make it through the bloody trailer for this. :v:
I'm fine with people liking the show, but when they shove it in your face or exclaim the fact that they watch the show is when I start hating them. I do find it kind of heart warming that the social outcasts can finally find friends though.
I like how they're talking about it like it's the most important social revolution of the century or something fuck this shit
if anything it's the exact contrary of one, this quote by neil cicierega explains it far better than i could:
"The show's designed to be a better alternative to the crap little girls are usually fed. So of course, grown men, who already have plenty of media marketed to them, come in and completely overshadow the intended audience, and litter it with the same tired humor and loutishness as every other male-oriented community. Something meant as an antidote to girls' usual gender normative entertainment has been turned into yet another sausage party."

I'm fine with people liking the show, but when they shove it in your face or exclaim the fact that they watch the show is when I start hating them.
Probably why the guy driving a car with a "Sparkle 2012" banner in the rear window got beat up/had his car vandalized, drew negative attention.
you lose a lot of points for comparing not liking fanbases to racism. while it is the same sort of generalizations taken from much smaller pockets of much larger communities that breed hatred, your point is offensive and really really dumb.
Hmm. That's actually a really good point. Alright, I apologize for making that statement.
the thing about the brony fandom, in my opinion, is that it's been soiled by the small but loud part of the community that are also known as the attention starved. these are usually the people that go to places like facepunch or 4chan (the non mlp boards anyway) and post pony shit not to actually talk about pony shit, but to rile up the people who can't stop complaining about pony shit. you can usually tell who they are by threads or discussion starters that only contain image macros that contain a pony showing a smug face and "u mad" underneath, or posts that follow the same line of thought, or people that spray pony ass or pony porn in your favorite source game server. this is the same small group of a larger community that came from furries, the ones that even other furries hated. i've noticed that part of the furry community has been strangely silent since my little pony became a "thing". i've seen a lot less furries actively going out of their way to grab the attention of everyone on a forum or game to show everyone "i love anthro dog dick", and met a lot more cool people who just happen to be furries, and don't act differently towards anyone just because of the things they like.
you know, while we're on the topic of this, it was found that the pony posters on /b/ and /q/ didn't actually like (or even watch) the show but were doing what you said--posting image macros and such just to piss people off. And it obviously worked. Since 4chan is effectively anonymous, these guys would post a pony then reply to it, pretending to be pissed off. This tactic derails threads to this day.

i need to kill these people electric chair is worth it
i need to kill these people electric chair is worth it
yeah, let's kill people who are awkward but will have little to no impact on your life or the state of the world as a whole that's such a great idea edit: before this topic is inevitably locked by a mod i would like to bring attention to a post made by an anon on /co/ before this fandom truly exploded, which provides an explanation of sorts of why people can enjoy ponies (other than 'the show is good')
Shows made for little girls? You know, Henry the fifth made his soldiers go into battle with drawings of rough paintings of beautiful women, birds, flowers and girl-children on the inside of their shields. But the soldiers did this not because they were a bunch of sissy faggots, but because of the horror of the battle, they could look at something beautiful to ease the weight of what they were seeing and doing. Being a man is a hard thing and working full-time or going to school and looking after yourself is hard and sometimes you want to sit back and watch some stupid cute bullshit. You aren't a pedo, you just like girls in general. In a world as shitty as we live in today, we need something to soften down those hearts and cute girls are the cure. Only real men can push aside their insecurities, thinking that they're doing something sick, when you're just another victim of today's media where everything is sexualised corrupting the minds of today's youth, you can't help but think these things in a dirty way. Free your mind and be a man.
just something to think about
i need to kill these people electric chair is worth it
really ok lets look at this for a second grown men that want to watch a show for little girls about ponies this guy on the internet that wishes to perform the act of murder unto a living human being for liking a tv show who's more mentally deranged? edit: oh sorry maybe you specifically meant murdering people that want to gather and talk about a tv show for little girls that they all watch and make friends because of it. yeah i dont know which is worse. you choose.
pathetic video + the pathetic dubstep
I've watched it. It misses the point entirely. It is very subjective, and confusing at times, so I don't expect it to make a lot of sense to outsiders… Which defeats the point of a documentary. More fuel to the circlejerk, I guess. [sp]10/10 excellent spaghetti will watch again[/sp]

[editline]24th January 2013[/editline]
you know i could say literally the same thing and just replace mlp with PAX, comic-con, or any other "nerdy" convention or fandom.
Ok other conventions I understand but Gaming conventions? Really? No one goes there to talk to anyone everyone just wants to see what new games are coming out and to play them.
I don't understand what the hell is with these guys and thrusting their fandoms upon everyone else. Can't we just enjoy things without bludgeoning eachother over the head about what we like?
I wonder, is it really a documentary when the guy making it is actually in the thing he is documenting? Isn't it more of a self-reflection?
Watched this documentary. It doesn't tell much about the fandom, but instead focuses on fans who are visiting the said conventions, some of whom are known in the fandom for one reason or another, instead of focusing on the fandom itself and the show, which I would imagine the people outside the fandom to be more interested in. So, in the end it will probably make the people outside the fandom more confused while appealing to bronies by showing how "creative, quirky and encompassing" the fandom is. It does have some brief interviews with people working on the show, but the interviews in question are short and not really all that insightful. And yes, the documentary does have its own share of cringeworthy scenes.
Someone should rig the conventions with C4 and blow these fuckers off the planet
1 minute in they are using Games Workshop paints to paint their ponies. Oh no they didn't. BURN THEM FOR HERESY IN THE NAME OF THE GOD EMPOROR! [editline]24th January 2013[/editline]
Someone should rig the conventions with C4 and blow these fuckers off the planet
While I find the whole Brony thing a bit.. odd. That is a bit too far don't you think? They aren't harming anyone. Let them do what they like. Hell, I find myself putting tiny little plastic soldiers together and then paint them up, slowly building an army. I collect a wee bit of Magic Cards since half my Uni seems to play Magic The Gathering. We all have our interests.
I sure do love a good 'point and laugh' show.
