They did this on a much larger scale with BF3 on The Gadget Show:
video pls
They listed "Mirror's Edge" in the original list for confirmed working games. If there was a video of it, it would probably just be of the anamorphic computer screen and some neckbeard wearing goggles while screaming and thrashing his arms around.
accurate thus far
watched some mirror's edge videos on youtube's 3D channel but even at high res the artifacting in the video was giving me a headache. Looks shiny, but you realize pretty fast what geometry is flat painted texture, haha.

Sex poses will never be the same.

just slap some thrusters on it and you're good for some sweet animation
I'd buy this if it worked for Red Orchestra 2, oh god tank battles with that, hngngnnggn. Not sure how they'd work though, but still sweet jesus.
I wonder if they'll make a gun to go with the headset too
I forgot how amazing Episode 2 soundtracks were

I've heard of full body suits that have a sort of bubble wrap on the inside and you can inflate individual bubbles electronically.
Apparently last time they showed it off at a tech show the feedback was along the lines of "AAAAH, SHIT! That fuckin hurts! Why would you make this!?"

it's like when a little kid puts his arm in those blood pressure checker seats at a local walgreens or something and gets stuck
Holy mother of immersion!
Imagine playing horror games.
I love how the aiming is independent of sight.
I can't wait to spin around while playing, have the cords trip me, make me smash into my computer and leave me in a coma for the rest of my life.
Immersive death.
Yeah its looks cool but I would prefer to try the BF3 one
jump to 11:40 for the better part
You'd freak the fuck out when headcrabs jump for your face
Flailing in the air like an idiot and falling over
Im going to have to get one of these dev kits, I initially planned to then didnt and now im probably gonna front the cash.
Wait, wouldn't free aiming effectively mean that you COULD shoot directly behind yourself without turning?
I want this.
Oculus Rift.
5.1 Headset.
Wii-ish sensor on a gun so you can use it.
I got the headset and a possible wii mote if that works. Just the rift and then i can finally say "My body is ready"
I really don't understand what you guys find so special about the Occulus Rift.
It doesn't seem like something like this would be practical to play games with.
That, and it makes you look like a complete asshat.

who cares how it makes you look its the experience that counts.

When experienced reviewers say it's great and totally awesome, you've got to feel what they're feeling.

I always thought this was the least dumb looking VR thing so far, and what do you mean by "doesn't seem practical"?

The practical part of it is supposed to be where you can look around within the game world by moving your head around rather than your mouse. This will be very practical lots of other first- and third-person games where looking other than the direction your character's body is facing is desirable.
ARMA is an obvious first-person example, where the ability to pan your view around whilst aiming your gun straight ahead is an important feature. Even games that don't rely on view panning separately from the character's body can be modded to allow for this, such as HL2 in the OP. In flight simulators it's often necessary to look around the cockpit while both your hands are busy controlling the plane. Even RPGs may benefit from allowing you to pan the view around your character without using the mouse.
By impractical, I mean doing stuff like vehicle sections in shooters, or other things like aiming down your sights or throwing a grenade.
I don't really see how you could make those things work with a plastic gun.

The motion-sensing gun is not part of the Rift. That's just an extra thing someone threw together because they thought it'd be cool to have motion-controlled weapon tracking on top of the head tracking provided by the Rift.
With regards to that I agree; controlling the aim of gun in-game like that isn't very practical.

It is pretty awesome though.

now I'm too afraid to go out in public with it
though I was considering taping elton john glasses to the front

If a game is programmed with it in mind, the mechanic of how it moves in relation to how you move in the game can be changed up, possibly per-situation. You can probably end up swapping the function yourself manually anyways- from being first person mode like the guy in the video, to what I call 'tank' mode where your character remains facing 'forward' in-game, but you're looking around like the turret swiveling on top- which is how you'd want it for driving, or mech games like Hawken, which was built specifically with oculus in mind. They even made a full cockpit model so you could look around it in that tank-movement style

What the hell does a plastic gun have to do with the oculus rift? The rift is the headset.
