I think I said this before, but this would be fucking awesome on rail shooters.
theaceattourney doesn't know what he is talking about... You are wearing that thing in your room, not on the streets and its about inside of the Oculus, not the outside.
What the hell does a plastic gun have to do with the oculus rift? The rift is the headset.
To be fair this thread is about them both, not just OR. I know I won't be using a gun controller before they work as smooth as the Rift, and before the Rift has position detection.

yeah, the rift by itself is practically a screen/TrackIR hybrid in that its functions mimic that of a 3D monitor and a TrackIR set (without glasses in the way of the screen and without the limits of TrackIR such as turning your head >90 degrees) that means no, you don't have to look like a _____ spinning around in your house and tripping over cables /wearing a laptop on your back - that isn't the rift, that is this experiment using the rift and some neat tracking gun thing yeah it looks quite impractical for much more than a fun experiment, but consider taking your current PC setup and applying just the rift into it - your mouse and keyboard control your movements and aim, while your rift allows you to NOT have a pole up your arse forcing your head to follow your torso - it lets you look around you, look over and lean around cover (with translational tracking once that's in)
