It should've mentioned in the video that it was all in-game/in-engine renders. Its all so beautiful and mind blowingly large that it all looks like its been pre-rendered.
how are you all scared of a space simulator :v:
I'd love to play this, but my comp can't handle its awesomeness.
how are you all scared of a space simulator :v:
Easy to get nervous/anxious when you're a laid-back person playing this game. It makes you think about alot of existential shit.
Can somebody with more balls than brains take a picture of the black hole? :v:
The scariest part of the black hole experience is that, because you find them in the centre of galaxies, you are surrounded by stars
And then suddenly

Not my image, by the way.
When I get back from my holiday, I'll create a gif/video of the black hole go-to surface experience and we can all be scared together :v:
This is awesome. I've spent most of the day just flying around, looking around. This is Google Earth quality and I wouldn't be surprised if Google ends up buying it and this guy/company becomes a billionaire.
Is there a cockpit view for the spaceships? I'd really like this to get OR support

Well, Oculus Rift support is right around the corner. Try that out lol.

I'm laid-back as fuck and I only think this is cool as hell.
going into the center of the galaxy and seeing the density of stars pretty much taking up more of your view than darkness, it becomes overwhelming and i start to panic
i have a planet phobia and i'm never playing this game in my life.
i have a planet phobia and i'm never playing this game in my life.
ur on a planet
ur on a planet
nah, he's on facepunch. the moons are the mods.
i have a planet phobia and i'm never playing this game in my life.
I'm not the only one thank god! I wouldn't call it a phobia tho. I wouldn't even know what to call it really. But it's pretty damn intense due to the actual size of them etc
Well, Oculus Rift support is right around the corner. Try that out lol.
Vommit [del]simulator[/del] 2014
I've fallen in love with this program. I've always had an admiration for space exploration and this guy pretty much gives us this giant thing to play in for free.
I'm afraid of deep water, zooming into blackholes/gas giants is pretty close to that, really uncomfortable.
It feels like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't feel any discomfort playing this planetarium at all. I have great imagination, a lot of knowledge and I'm really fascinated by space and it's mechanics. I'm a pretty emotional person when it comes to books and movies and games, but this just does nothing for me in terms of negative emotions. Only emotion I get is my breath being taken away when I see something really beautiful, but never fear.

Yeah, I don't get it either.
Sorry guys but it's pretty annoying to see threads like this mainly filled with "Oh wow I'm so scared."
Yeah, I don't get it either.

People are different than me? Stop it, guys.
We need a real thread for this marvelous game
I love how the increments of 0.9.6.9, 0.9.7.0, and 0.9.7.1 are so small numerically but SpaceEngine improves ten-fold with each one. It excites me to think about what release 1.0 will be like.
Hopefully something like this:
Spaceflights
Use real physics for interplanetary flights - computing orbits, acceleration/deceleration burns, landing on planets and take off, docking with mothership or space station. All can be done using autopilot or manual controls.
Exploring
Using telescopes, radars, spectrometers etc to obtain data about stars and planets from distance. Mapping a planet surface with orbital survey: landscape model, minerals distribution, atmosphere composition and propertes. Launching automatic probes to quickly map all planets in the system. Launching landing probes, taking ground/water/air sample. Driving remote controlled rover (with light travel delay!). Landing on planet in aero-space shuttle, flying under ocean surface with aircraft-like controls, walking in space-suit, driving in a rover, using ground buildings.
Harvesting
Collecting hydrogen from gas giant upper atmosphere for ship's engines with magnetic ram-scoop. Collecting minerals from asteroids/planets by harvester ships and transporting them to building site.
Building
Constructing modules for mothership or entire ship on orbit using minerals from harvesters and nanoassemblers (nano-robots) or "3D printer". Constructing/upgrade mothership with dockable modules. Constructing utility ships or small modules in onboard nano factories. Constructing ground buildings with nanoassemblers using local materials. Self-repairing of constructions using smart nanomaterials or nanorobots. Manual repairing in some difficult cases.
Colonization
Building bases, domes, cities on planets or building spacestations. Building passenger ships and transporting NPC citizens to new colonies. Building orbital fuel stations, a fleet of harvesters, orbital factories, etc. Probably: terraforming.
Development
Importing new models, scripts, with moderating on main site. Development of scripts for autopilot, defence systems, warships. Ingame exchange and trading of created content between players.
Player-To-Player interaction
Exploring, harvesting, building, colonization in cooperation. Help with repair, evacuation. Server database will save the name of the pioneer of a system/planet and names that he/she gives to them. Trading with ships, colonies, resources, new models and scripts, programs. Fights player-vs-player in space or on a planet using realistic physics (very hard and expensive).

At least that's what the game part will eventually be like, according to the developer.
I think the plan is to split up the program into two parts, with the planetarium part (what we have now) being free, and the game part (which will probably have a different name or subtitle) costing some money, a bit like how Minecraft started off.

Actually I'd rather see the thread full of discussion on why a lot of people get this feeling. Also seeing and reading other peoples experiences of being uneasy while exploring the virtual cosmos because chances are it will affect people in this way when they are actually out in the real thing in the future. I think it's very interesting and important. halting the discussion because some guy wants to make it known that he is different from the majority would be dumb and a disappointment.
Maybe it's Agoraphobia or fear of heights but this game scares me too. The sensation of scale comes across really well.
On another note, the time scale is lovely, watching the planets rotate around the sun. But I was hoping to zoom out of the galaxy and watch that rotate too, or at least see the stars move relative to each other. Or the andromeda galaxy crashing into our own. Is this too much to ask...?
With some performance tweaks and the new more stable and better running version, maybe I'll remake my Vastness of Space Engine video. An HD version that actually shows with ease the stars so you don't have to squint
If you're curious

In fact, I think I will
people are scared of this game because it's a very human reaction to be scared of big empty spaces, dark spaces, the size of the universe (its huge and a lot of people can't grasp the size without this game) and how insignificant they feel
people who don't get scared are just jaded
[sp] like me [/sp]
Never found this game terrifying, either. For me, it puts things in perspective.
