Because they're not the company they used to be back when they released Morrowind and Oblivion. When you have ID under your corporate portfolio, use it to your advantage
iDTech 5 was described by the people who made the damn thing as a bad choice for open world gaming. Bethesda's engine is far from perfect, but it allows their games to be easily modified by anyone who downloads the CK. If they switched to iDTech, the modding would suffer severely and the game would die off much faster. People still modify Morrowind because of the ease and accessibility.
you are confusing the publisher Bethesda Softworks and the developer Bethesda Game Studios
I swear, one of them just needs to change their name at this point. People consistently seem to be unable to remember they're not the same.
you are confusing the publisher Bethesda Softworks and the developer Bethesda Game Studios
You don't think that they could get the greenlight from corporate to create or rework a new engine for the use of their biggest IPs?
Aw shit you guys I just realized something. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/28v2dn/i_played_fallout_4/ This was posted 11 months ago, almost all of that info is exactly what we saw in the trailer including when the trailer release would be slated (June 2015). [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] I mean stuff can change during development but I really hope none of this info stood.
Oh fuck I just realized- The dog. There will be a mission where s/he dies. It's inevitable.

[editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] I mean stuff can change during development but I really hope none of this info stood.
That's the thread where he talks about the fucking ridiculous idea that Bethesda is going to make what is effectively two games, using Creation for last-gen and a new engine for next-gen. Yeah, no. He's a bullshitter who got lucky with a few guesses, that's all. [editline]Edit:[/editline] Actually, here. Let me quote Ganerumo, he made a more detailed post on why that's BS:
Fallout 4 is not going to come out on PS3 and 360 for starters, or else it would have already been indicated on the website. The "classic mode" she mentioned is obvious utter bullshit. The entire description of the game start is invalidated by what we saw in the trailer. She contradicts herself by stating some of the characters don't fully return because you can kill them or ignore them in Fallout 3, but then goes to explain that Bryan Wilks, a character you can ENTIRELY IGNORE, will be in this game and will be somehow significant. She also gets his age wrong. Save transfer for a game that's not even released on the same console as the previous iteration, more than six years after the original game out. It also contradicts her previous statement that some characters do not fully appear because you could kill them (why the save transfer then ?). Also, she's implying Bethesda took the time to write characters and pay for their VA even though only a minority of players would see them because they'd only be accessible on the 360/PS3 version of the game via save transfer (no mention of PC save transfers either). Behaviour Interactive, which is mentioned as the developer of a spin off game, is not part of Zenimax and has not made a single worthwhile title in a really long time, outside of Shadow of Mordor. "Brand new engine" for the new gen versions but CE for the old ones, yeah bullshit. So yeah, bullshit. She made two wild guesses that turned out to be correct and the rest is asinine lies.

Well if the player is from Vault 111 it may be on the east-coast seeing as in Fallout 3 the numbers were 100+
It's in Boston.

Also I just made this because I was bored and I wanted to do some small speculation: https://imgur.com/a/LrSEd
Too colorful and not green and brown enough. I'm disappointed. [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
How much longer do you plan on making this incredibly tired joke?
Who said it was a joke?
i dunno why everyone is assuming that the brotherhood of steel is going to be like the one from fo3 other than some guys walking in the fields and a vertiberd with a dude looking out at the city even in fo3 it's known that they aren't part of the actual brotherhood anymore and even if they are the heroes of fo4 it even says in the fallout bible that "they are generally good guys, though they'll put technology above life," but that doesn't mean they value life less than any other guy in the wastelands, it's just that they value technology a lot more than that guy does, which sounds like the choice of if you could only save one thing which would you choose, your dog you love(humans) or a person you love(technology) and actually it may not even be the brotherhood of steel, it may be US soldiers from your vault even if you were also cryogenically frozen
You know the BoS is notorious for sending people wanting to join them on suicide missions and stealing/killing people for tech because they wouldn't know how to use it.
Oh fuck I just realized- The dog. There will be a mission where s/he dies. It's inevitable.
Or it could be just like with Dogmeat where the player can find him and recruit him as a companion back in Fallout 3. Fallout 3 and 4 both had dog companions in their trailers, but the dog in F4 was possibly used as a driving point for the trailer.
so, are there cars now?
I am very excited for this, but I am worried it will be the Skyrim of Fallout.
That isn't bad, is it? I thought most of FP liked Skyrim
Noticed this guy's right hand in the trailer.
Oh fuck I just realized- The dog. There will be a mission where s/he dies. It's inevitable.
Yeah, when I kill it so I can free up a follower slot with someone who's actually useful.
Noticed this guy's right hand in the trailer.
<Pure Speculation> The Institute is known for having developed superior human-like androids. Since The Institute is based in Boston, I'm guessing he's an android and also judging by his Noir appearance and robotic right arm he could be an android who hunts other androids down when they escape. There is also another faction that is like the underground railroad which helps androids escape The Institute. Maybe he's a bounty hunter for The Institute? That or it's a mysterious stranger cameo. [thumb]http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/1/1b/Fo3_Burke.png/revision/latest?cb=20141012204454[/thumb] Maybe it's because he reminds me of Mister Burke.
since bethesda is writing it, maybe we'll have great story elements such as: - losing karma for killing ghouls that murdered an entire tower's worth of innocent people who, upon asking, say they're okay with ghouls living there - blowing up an entire town and having 0 negative repercussions at all aside from 1 line of dialogue from like, 1 person - super mutant resistant to all types of radiation: "no... its your destiny...." - water..... purifier..... - little lamplight.... - after hundreds of years, the ancient arts of "sweeping" and "carpentry" are lost; people elect to live in shitty shacks with scrap metal laying everywhere please oh god let there be some kind of confirmation that the guys who wrote FO3 aren't writing this. i'd be happy if at least one obsidian/ former obsidian guy was working on this.

It isn't like they're a retcon, they're explicitly stated to be a portion of the BoS that thought differently and moved to the east so they didn't have to be around the western BoS, who they disliked.

This honestly sounds like a shitstorm just waiting to happen. I kinda wished I had gotten into Fallout earlier so I could be even more hype for this, even though it looks really really good. I'm v excited for 2015-2016 in gaming tbh
I'm getting it on Xbox One and then eventually PC so fuck all that other bullshit with crashing and having to worry if my rig can handle it. I'm all for the game being on a updated and better Creation kit engine, anyway. It looks great and older rigs will still be able to possibly run it. Win-win imo.

There the group spent many hours touring the deep caverns. Just as they were packing up to leave, the caverns began to shake. The kids began to scream as the lights went out, and one man from the group went out to see what was going on. Upon his return, he informed those within that the entire Washington, D.C. area was covered in mushroom clouds. The adults slowly died off or left, some leaving the cavern, others being injured by accidents inside. Eventually, Carrie Delaney, being the last of the adult survivors, decided to go scavenging and never returned--leaving the kids to fend for themselves. One of the older kids, Jason Grant, assumed mayor after no one else would step forward. Within the next month of exploring the caves the children came upon Vault 87, where they pounded on the door for hours, pleading for assistance. Finally, one of the adults inside Vault 87 told the children to go away (saying that they were "already dead"). This was likely Peter Stevens, a vault technician stationed near the door to Little Lamplight, who thought that the children were hallucinations of his dead son. As a result, the kids turned against all "Mungos," kicking out residents once they turned 16. Most, if not of all, of these adults then head to the settlement of Big Town, after being told that a "good life" awaits them there.
I'll even argue the same for the water purifier.
You know the BoS is notorious for sending people wanting to join them on suicide missions and stealing/killing people for tech because they wouldn't know how to use it.
of course they would send them on suicide missions, it's to deter people from wanting to join, as well as them only wanting the best in their ranks, since if any shmuck could join they would be overloaded with people who are less than qualified, and then in the end they don't lie, if you come back with the mission completed and survive they totally let you in actually not even the mojave guys force you to go on a suicide mission, he even tells you it's dangerous they only kill those who refuse to give them the technology, after all you don't want just anybody with a plasma weapon walking around the ncr even named a state after them(maxson) because they helped out so much before they went to war with each other, and they exchanged some bits of technology even(fo bible)
Little Lamplight has a realistic and relatible backstory actually: I'll even argue the same for the water purifier.
It doesn't explain where little lamplight is getting new residents for 200 years Closest thing to an explanation is cut content from The Pitt where a unique NPC takes the baby off you if both Ashur and Werhner are dead so she can take her to a safe place But since it's unused content it probably doesn't matter
the shading reminds me of the classic Fallouts honestly.
the shading reminds me of the classic Fallouts honestly.
Yeah, it's been said probably a hundred times by now but I'm loving the little throwbacks to the classic Fallout style, especially concerning the Vault jumpsuit's material being like how it was before FO3/NV.
Really excited here, don't care about dem graphics one bit
Me neither. alot of this trailer is just pure yes to me. I just want this to be a fun RPG, and see what exactly is different between FO4 and FO3. Hell I didn't care about the story too much for either Fallout Beth games, I just had fun with them, the amount of pessimism I see here and there is disheartining, it feels like someone has ONE problem that just makes them tottaly unsatisfied with a trailer we've been waiting on for quite some time now on bated breath. As for me, I fucking got sick for a bit with excitement seeing this trailer. To me this is Bioshock Infinite levels of excitement where I'm heavily considering pre-ordering if it looks any better and the pre order swag is decent (Looking at you Steam pre order of Bio Infinite giving me a free copy of XCOM). [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
So hype for the game and mods! I got no problem with the graphic honestly. I prefer it to be like that originally so than even if you have a low system you could play at ease. And we all know that Bethesda games get mod a lot so a month after release, there will be already a bunch of texture mod & Enb for it.
That got me thinking, I wonder what the DLC's will be like? FO3 has some decent DLC's. Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta being my favorites.
