...Who are also the devs who made VC1 (Most of the WOW Entertainment crew got picked up by MediaVision after WOWE was closed) and 3. Azure Revolution literally has the same directors and producers as VC1.
Valkyria Chronicles:
Director(s) Shuntaro Tanaka Takaharu Terada Producer(s) Ryutaro Nonaka Designer(s) Takeshi Ozawa Artist(s) Raita Honjou Hirotaka Kanazawa Composer(s) Hitoshi Sakimoto
Valkyria: Azure Revolution:
Director(s) Takeshi Ozawa Producer(s) Youichi Shimosato Katsura Mikami Artist(s) Hiro Kiyohara Takayama Toshiaki Composer(s) Yasunori Mitsuda
One person from Valkyria Chronicles who had a lead position is working on V:AR, and he doesn't even hold the same position.
fucking disgusting, i absolutely love VC and this looks like a generic JRPG.
Series fucking died imo when they went to the fucking PSP for 2 & 3 and gave the rest of the world the middle finger. And now they've butchered the aesthetics of the series for this game. I suppose the silver lining is that since it isn't titled "Valkyria Chronicles" you could just consider it a spin-off and ignore it. We should have seen it coming tho as things have been getting progressively more outlandish with each game.

This isn't looking good at all.
From what I can tell compared to the demo earlier this year, it looks like they took all party firearms and abilities and.. .. put them in a ring menu where you can use them more like special turn attacks with no interference, and yet the game's still an action combat battle system otherwise. Their response to 'the gunplay looks like shit' was to literally buff their damage and then turn them into a special action of limited use that you have to watch play out. While the damage radius/line setup is neat, they basically took their complaints at face value and didn't actually do much in the grand scheme of things. No wonder the game wasn't getting a significant delay, they didn't really have to try. Compare to older footage. There's now no close-quarters combat transitions, and melee attacks have more weight, but the camera lost the battle focus, and it lacks what little pacing and oomph it had before. The combat now reminds me of a low-effort MMO battle system tuned for singleplayer, right down to damage rings appearing that indicate AoE attacks as characters weightlessly run about. And there's also that really obnoxious "READY" every time you're able to attack again. I'm not even really a VC fan and this looks boring and derivative as hell. [sp]And, this is just real nitpicky here, for some reason they removed Ophelia's modesty shorts she had in the earlier demo, it's glaring since the thumbnail for the new video practically points it out since her dress flares up when she casts magic every damn time. When everyone else's designs are consistent with before, it's a small detail but something feels off about it; the series isn't unfamiliar with fanservice but a small change like that makes me wonder what the developer intent is.[/sp]

It sucks that it was only on the psp, but it made the slog through VC2 all worth it.
I love how a PC release funded a console exclusive.
What the hell? Why is there a wizard with a staff and a bunch of sword users in this? Isn't Valkyria Chronicles about good old wars with guns and tanks, not swords and staffs?
Except for the Valkyria's, they can have swords.
Except for the Valkyria's, they can have swords.
They had ranged lance nukes, and their sheer durability and raw power meant they could go toe-to-toe with artillery and tanks and still come out on top, much less entire armies in certain cases. Getting up close to an enemy Valkyria just about never ends well unless you're also a Valkyria or one of the biggest badasses on the planet. In terms of 'normal' humans, they usually didn't stack on melee unless they were a heavy unit, or Imca from VC3 with her goddamn hand-loaded cannon she carried around that has a bayonet blade the size of said cannon. It wasn't soldiers passively using ranged weapons to soften up armored grunts and then running in swords and cutting them all to death, much less smacking the legs of giant robot spider walkers with swords until they explode. VC may have a lot of unrealistic character designs, but a lot of people wore uniform and armor, since they were usually very much mortal and a few bullet spreads (or headshots) could down just about anyone real quick. V:AR seems to probably use the new setting's more liberal magic as an excuse for why a party of vagrant warfaring swordsmen and mages can literally run straight into paths of bullets and explosions and slash everyone in their way down.
But they're not vagrant swordsmen, they're the henchmen of a conspiring minister of parliament using the war to make the current government look weak in order to pull off a coup de tat. Anyway, impressions from someone who was at TGS.
So now that I'm back from TGS I can finally write about the gameplay. Thankfully I got there early enough to not have to wait in line. Also, they were kind enough to provide around 16 demo stations. Amusingly enough, when I walked in, they immediately directed me to their American rep to speak English to me, which was a first (most of the time if you play a demo at TGS it's Japanese instructions only). Also, said rep forgot to start the 15 minute timer, so I decided to take my time with the demo and figure out as much as I could. :P My Notes: The new Direct Order command added to the quick menu lets you instruct soldiers just like KOTOR does, which is exactly what I wanted. You can do a whole sequence of confirmations for another character while controlling the main one, which is perfect. The icons for magic in the quick menu are too small and could stand to be slightly larger. I was standing close to the screen, and even then it was hard visually to make out the icons; meaning you'd have to rely solely on memorized text titles. So the attack system has been changed. Before in 1.0 you had light and heavy attacks. Now you have one attack button, but if you hit it it does an auto-combo of around 3-5 hits per character, and it uses your entire action bar. This feels really weird and clunky, because after your action bar runs out, you can't do anything but guard or switch characters. I don't know why hitting one attack button basically makes your character totally useless. I thought there may have been some sort of glitch or problem, but I tested it with every character, and indeed hitting the button does the combo and gauge depletion, so... As you and probably anyone who actually commented about the gameplay outside of making worthless jibes noted, combat pausing after you've selected an action really does not work in this game and makes everything feel awkward. It also makes certain tactics way too strong, like healing magic for instance, since there's no chance you'll ever get hit out of it. It works in Chronicles because that game's a slower back-and-forth game, but not this one, since it's bizarre as hell to do a long-ass animation with a dozen enemies staring at you when you were previously engaged in a frenzied assault. So timestop itself is fine, but timestop really should not apply to the action itself. Most animations look complete (especially Ophelia's), a few attacks still don't look done though. I'm used to that with fighting games where animations are cleaned up until the last minute though. For some reason in the demo Amleth was level 3 while everyone else was level 1. This made Amleth an absolute destruction machine while making everyone else feel very weak to play, so that wasn't a wise decision. I tried playing the character wielding a shield and an axe, but it was really tough to deal damage. Enemies that are launching big attacks now have AoE indicators. The scorpion foot stomp, for instance, actually shows the range it will hit. So no more raging at invisible hitboxes! Now we rage at inhumanly sized hitboxes! They added a new quick "team strategy" button on L1. If you hit it, it gives you several options; "Force, Solo, Buddy". Force makes your teammates aggressive and attack the enemy. Solo means you get to attack ahead while your teammates behind you provide firearm support. Buddy makes everyone gather around you to regroup. So if you want to avoid an AoE, run out of range and hit the Buddy command to pull people back. I tried to see if you could switch locked on targets like in 1.0 and you still can. The game isn't optimized yet and has framerate problems. Noticed against the giant scorpion the most when it started jumping around and framerate dropped pretty hard. Also happens when there's just a lot of shit on screen. Praying for unlocked framerate PC port. It was a lot more fun to fight the scorpion this time because it had more attacks for you to avoid. Surprisingly it looks like they removed the charging attack though, probably because it was unfair for your teammates to defend against. New axe guy whose name I'm too lazy to look up has a rocket launcher. I tried using it a few times, but it didn't seem very impressive (maybe because his level was too low?). New axe guy also is the only character with a moving guard like the Armored Techs in VC2 and VC3. Hold guard and walk forward. If you block too many bullets it breaks your guard though (or lowers your ATB?) Blum is the typical mage character who does no melee damage. Magic is very strong in the current build of the game though, with Ophelia being a standout especially. If you capture a base you restore ammo to your side-weapons, just like Chronicles if you stay in base zone for a turn. Verdict: I appreciate changes, but they still need to make refinements; right now it just feels too awkward to play. They need to make controls more tactile, fix the ATB issues and prioritize efficiency of combat so it feels like a smooth experience. Fun stuff: -The guy next to me had his game glitch, his characters were "downed" (with death timers) but he couldn't pick them up, they were all stuck in glitched animations. He was pissed! -I received a cool envelope with the 2.0 demo code that unlocks on Oct. 6th. I'm 99% certain that my 1.0 demo will become a 2.0 by itself, so I have a free code to give away in the future. -Sega employees taped a big message in front of the TV saying "THERE IS A SCENE AFTER THE FINAL BATTLE" just to make sure I wouldn't miss the bonus cutscene. Well... Amleth is interrogating who I assume is an enemy army general, then when provoked, just straight up kills him (blackout scene to keep the T rating). Made me jump a bit cause I'm not used to an anime-style JRPG where enemies actually get killed killed. You know what I mean, like not slaughtering a final boss who deserved it or transformed, or having an enemy who had it coming die due to happenstance, but just straight up cold murder out of nowhere. Looks like the Sinners won't hesitate to do the heavy stuff to achieve their goals...
I know its an anime thing but that woman's tits are so huge its actually funny. They stick so far out its absurd even for anime standards.
If it weren't for the video showing "Selvaria but with a scythe"
I thought she [sp]died[/sp].
I thought she [sp]died[/sp].
it's not the same story or even continuity so it doesn't really matter it's literally not-selvaria because that'd be the first thing to catch the fan's attention spans
This isn't the King of Fighters 14 thread bro.
kof14 will probably come to pc just ps4 is more important due to tourney standard
