I'm probably missing something because I haven't played an AC game since 2, but how is this an assassin's creed game? Couldn't they have just made a pirate game instead
A pirate game wouldn't have sold as well, we've been through this multiple times. It's not the best excuse but regardless there's not much else to tell you.
$5 We're all gonna sing this on the high sea.

I know for certain I will.
It may not have been the same kind of Assassin-y tone you might EXPECT (not that most of these games were entirely stealth) but it looks like it's going to be a great open world pirate game with the combat and navigation elements that worked well in the past games so thats all I really want.
I noticed when he got on the island of misteriosa (I get it, its mysterious) there were animus fragments. Which is interesting to see whats going on in the future present world as well.
Ubisoft said in a Twitter Q&A that the modern day storyline will be optional in AC4. Thank God, because I always felt that it broke the overall flow of the game.

It's a shame, really. The few pirate games that have been put out have been really great, imo.
I played the shit out of Sid Meyer's Pirates! for a while.
It'd be cool if you shot off a flare of sorts to alert your crew, that way with some good timing the player could hop on and sail off.

I just got a GTA feeling when that guy running off hopped on his boat and it shot away, like when you have that mission to chase some guy and it turns from running into some driving situation.
Seeing as Ubi ignored all the glaring problems in AC3 for PC and I paid $60 for it.
I will pirate this game and you should too.
*irony*
I know I'm dumb, but why do you guys think I should pay for the next game? (peeps rating dumb for no reason)
Why would I give them more money when I got burnt on my last purchase? There was 2, 1000 page threads on Ubisoft forums (they deleted one) asking why the game ate it's balls once you got to Boston and beyond and their only answer was to ban people. The game is garbage.

No rebuttal.
I have to ask for a ban thanks facepunch.

I can't wait for the next Tutorial: The Game

Perhaps you should read/watch game reviews beforehand so you know not to make a purchase if the game is bad. Buying a game without doing a bit of prior research is rather silly.

If you don't like it, you could, you know, just not play it.
Gave a really nice Sid Meiers Pirates vibe from the naval battles and ship looting.
Looking good.
looks cool and all but i really want it to be like... not an assassins creed game. I just wanna be a pirate D:
Sorry, but it really looks like Streamline: The Game. I mean, it shouldn't take 30 minutes to make the ship ready, but speedboat physics is definitely not the way to go. It seems like the distance between islands is pretty small anyway, and with the fast travel I think you'd survive not going faster than the speed of sound. And the naval combat just looks turdy - with the reload speed there's not reason to really aim, and any suspension seems to be thrown out the window.
And the player should have something to do most of the time, but basically giving him "Go here - certain reward!" map is just lazy. Finding treasures should be quests themselves, not a commodity.
I love games with proper naval gameplay.
It's looking good so far.
