I feel sorry for the walk-through creator.

I don't. Walkthrough's are supposed to be helpful, while the one they're using is anything but.
The problem is Arin doesn't know that the fragments are randomly placed each time, the walkthrough never mentions it, he's managed to never die on Knuckles levels, and he ran past any navis that would have explained it

How much can he possibly say? The locations are randomized with hundreds of possible locations. There's only so much you can say to help someone with something so open ended. Hell they're giving him shit for not having the Adventure Field sections in the walkthrough when it totally does.
To be fair he did forget to say that the locations were random, but he doesn't deserve this level of bashing for making a simple mistake.
I was okay with the walkthrough hate up until today, when Arin told the username and said to send hatemail. No matter how much you hate someone, you don't do that shit. Especially on a ten year old guide. All I know is, when they find out the emeralds are randomized there's gonna be so much apologizing (on Danny's side, Arin will probably be irate as usual)

I didn't know there would be that many possible locations. I thought it'd be more like "10 possible locations per level", which would have been more possible to describe in a guide.

I'm not really sure myself but I looked through some walkthroughs and couldn't find one that had a list of all the locations. I think they have a chance of being placed in any enemy on the map, or any container on the ground, as well as dozens of preset locations underground and whatnot.
'Hundreds' might not be accurate but it sure seems to be enough to not be possible to map them all out.
sonic adventure is one of my favorite games ever and this series is agonizing

Even if it wasn't helpful, you don't just namedrop people like that. Hell, because of the namedrop people in the comments were able to find his e-mail and you know there are going to be idiots to take advantage of that.

Not only do we have someone's email, but someone's phone number and name too, according to r/gamegrumps. This whole thing is a goddamn trainwreck.

Jesus... I honestly hope they respond to this soon.
All for making a walkthrough of a goddamn Sonic game
To be honest there's not that many variations. It's a Dreamcast game. Small stages. They didn't put much effort into it beyond the Sonic campaign.
He could at least name some, or what the hell to do between action stages. His guide is literally "go find them". He was probably young when he wrote it and just did it to impress Michelle.
He will not get hate.
EVERYBODY in the comments, Reddit and online basically knows it's randomised and they're being douches. The only hate is from these two on this video. Even if he did get hate he wouldn't see it on a Game FaQs account he wrote a walkthrough for 10 years ago and probably hasn't checked in years.

Okay people going out of there way to find his address and number is nothing to do with the Grumps.
There was nothing stopping people going online and finding this guide and learning his username anyway. But getting that info takes work. That's pretty fucking awful. Why would you even do that with your time?
All the Grumps did was name something in public domain anyway (a username, by very definition isn't private information). But finding his personal details and putting it out there falls on somebody else's immoral shoulders.

The gamegrumps however are public figures and in a sense put a target on his head. Yes people could have done this before the grumps said anything; however, for some people, the grumps saying what they said gave them a reason to.
They made the video private - I imagine we'll get some sort of PSA/apology/something from them soon.
(Apologies if this ends up being posted multiple times or something, Cloudflare was being REALLY wonky with me).
I don't care how heart felt the apology is. If they ruined this guys life, saying "Sorry man, didnt mean it" is like a slap in the face.
Oh come on, Danny clearly didn't give it much thought during or after the show. The walkthrough guy will probably get a few nasty emails and then it'll blow over in a week.
Also, windwakr, Danny and Arin don't see every single episode before it's put up; Danny and Arin record, Kevin or Barry edits, then the episode goes up. I'm 100% sure Danny had already forgotten he said that by the time the episode was over; it's more on Kevin for not catching something that clearly should have been edited out.
Yeah I think alot of you are really going overboard with this.
This isn't like folks are going to send death threats or harass the guy IRL.
Hell this wasn't even really the grump's fault, they probably thought it was some stupid throw away, the internet took it seriously, and actually went after the fella.
This is all just stupid pointless drama that's gonna blow over very soon and we'll all just go back to complaining about Arin complaining.
Plus Dan apologized the day this happened so I think that says alot :v:.
I feel awful about this. We've taken down the episode and will edit out anything having to do with him immediately. I will also try to reach out to him and personally apologize.
They're even going to fucking edit that shit out, so stop your whining, and don't get on me about "oh it's the MEANING about it", no, unless the guy is really truly honest to god getting physically and psychologically hurt by all of this, this is just the internet being stupid.
Now have this fun animated video.

Yay! A happy ending. I'd like to think everyone came out of this situation having learned a good thing, and everyone is happy now. Good on Dan for speaking out and apologizing so soon, and great on Leadfoot for being a good sport!

What was the image though?
What was the image though?
It's a reaction image, but it says "Go to the Winchester, have a cold pint, and wait for all this to blow over."
